  I'm only a couple of hours in but I already feel compelled to leave a review. This game has had me in tears laughing multiple times with the sheer absurdity of certain situations. As an ex-retail worker, being allowed to say no so much i end up stuck in the abyss until the end of time (which apparently you can do?) is definitely something I wish i would've been allowed to do. Though it's advertised of short, the amount of horizontal content through different paths is definitely a pleasant surprise. So "No" to not buying this game!

  So despite everything this game has taught me.. "YES" Get this game This is exceptional, Ive been cackling at this game as it sucker punches me with great humor. Honestly just do yourself a favour and try it out!

  Negative Nancy is a surprisingly deep choice based little narrative adventure with some really unexpected paths you kind of accidentally stumble into. I have played through the four episodes of the game three times now each and find myself wanting to come back for more. It's deceptively short at first. You play as Nancy and go on whatever weird misadventure is brewing during these sort of episodic levels but there are only four total. So when I first played all of them I only clocked in around 2 hours total. Luckily for me I decided to replay them and found these paths through the episode that were ridiculous and unexpected. I thought it would be like a telltale game branch where you go back and make the other obvious choice but it had new dialogue throughout and I went from a political debate path to one where I got fired and became a relationship councillor instead. As for the negatives, I do find that the fourth episode, while it does say "bonus episode" isn't as polished as the first three. I just found the paths to be a little less surprising and as off the wall as I was enjoying out of the first three. Also most of the time I was able to say "NO" for a ridiculous amount of times and actually break the other person I was arguing with (which kinda feels like you're breaking the game" however there were a couple of occasions where I thought it would pay off but didn't quite. PROS - Really deep branching narrative - Wacky unexpected side stories - Feels surprisingly fun to mess with the NPCs and shut them down - Banging Soundtrack CONS - Needs to be replayed a couple of times to be enjoyed properly (if you're not into that) - Fourth episode is weaker - Sometimes hard to tell if game will let you break down a scene or not Overall I had a lot of fun with it, as long as you're interested in replaying to see what kind of stuff you missed out on the first time. I would recommend playing through with a goal in mind. One playthrough I only said yes to people and it got weird fast.

Is it for my dashing good looks?" "No." "My charming wit?" "No." "My heroic deeds?" "No." "My spiffy hairdo?" "No." "Nancester, come on. Don't be such a grump. Should they at least play it?" "..." "I'll take that as not a no!"

  I'll let the game review itself. "YOU ARE A CLERKY WHOSE BRAIN DOES NOT WORKY" All jokes aside this is actually a hilarious "Choose-Your-Misadventure" style game with multiple branching paths and unexpected outcomes. You play a Clerk who has two responses, Silence or "No". The developer is very aware of this and sometimes tries to catch you out within your own responses and actually really making you think, how do you apologise a character when you can only say no? It's a challenge that was fun to convert. I bought this game and absolutely BINGED it, it pulled me in and before I know it I've spent a good 8 hours navigating through the various answers to try and collect endings, and all without even thinking of looking for a Guide, as I was that engaged. There's a great sense of humour from the developer and so you can expect this to be a funny experience at the very least, as you move through.

  Negative Nancy is an social introvert's wet dream. Negative Nancy is a modern take on the classic CYOA genre with a modern twist that will humor, amuse, and entertain you. Negative Nancy is the "No" simulator that you wished was your real life when you worked/work at your retail job that you hate. Negative Nancy is everything and more. Negative Nancy... is the negativity in your life, processed and refined, polished and packaged with care- so that your life can be a little more positive.

  This is exactly the game I needed in my life. I've always wondered what would happen if you only said, "No" to everything and it ended up better than I expected somehow but not really. The last episode hit hard though; why would you go to a restaurant if you can't pay and they won't give it to you for free and of course the social implications. It was hilarious and I look forward to finishing the game.

  TL;DR Negative Nancy is a witty, funny, dark comedy visual novel with a rather interesting mechanic and amazing writing. I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of dark, borderline absurdist humour as it’s an absolute blast. 8/10 Negative Nancy has to be one of the first real hidden gems I’ve found on steam. With only 40 reviews I decided to take a risk and buy this game, having not even seen footage outside the steam trailer, and I’m so glad I have. It’s one of the funniest comedy visual novels I’ve ever played. You play as the titular Nancy going through your day to day life working at Megamart. Seems pretty boring right? That is until you throw in the fact that the only thing you can say is no. As such you have to go through a series of days (or episodes in the case of the game) being only able to say no or nothing at all. This can lead to some hilarious scenarios such as the store being overrun by rabid possums, an armed robbery or even kidnapping a famous “streamtuber”. The game has a very tongue in cheek sense of humour riffing on many memes and pop culture staples such as “poggers” and the old prank trends. This would in most cases make the game quite cringy but the creators have managed to just straddle the line between actual funny usage of memes and sounding like a cringy out of touch parent trying to “be down with the kids”. It also has quite the dark comedy streak which is evident in every episode especially when going down some of the darker paths i.e the possum event. I’ll try my best not to spoil too many of the jokes but if you’re a fan of dark, almost absurdist comedy then you will enjoy this game too. There was however one series of jokes which did fall flat for me personally and that was in episode 1 when you serve what I’m going to call “the redditor”. The character was the perfect embodiment of internet message boards and the elitist unfunny message spammers you find in Twitch chats and just really made me cringe every time he was on screen. And unfortunately not in a way to force out an awkward laugh. Now this may have been the intent of the creators and if so bravo, but this was the one time the game really just made me cringe instead of laugh. At my current playtime of 2 I have completed each day once over and played episode 1 three times. I have yet to collect all the collectables and witness all the paths so I’m not sure how long the 100% playtime will be. I will update the review if and when I do 100% the game, however if you’re not willing to pay full price for a game this short, which I doubt many will, I still recommend getting the game on sale. Overall, Negative Nancy is a witty, funny, dark comedy visual novel with a rather interesting mechanic and amazing writing.
