  For those of you looking for a remake of "The Movies" do not bother, this is as far from that Epic game as is humanly possible. otherwise its a cheap click, rinse and repeat game which isnt going to blow your socks off but isnt too bad. the UI is very VERY vague, you do have to work things out for yourself. I cant give this a positive review as it comes across as a cheaply made, dev game. If you are looking for something to fill the void of "The Movies" id suggest actually looking online and downloading the game. Go via google and there you will find links to do that, I have and "The Movies" still holds up better than 99% of games than have come after.....

  I see all these positive reviews for the game here on steam and all I can think about is either they just don't understand the point of these reviews, or they got the game for free, or they just don't care enough. How does this game get a positive review? It's awful. The gameplay is supposed to be point and click but allow me to tell you the majority of gameplay here. You click two buttons, type a name of a movie, then spend 10 minutes watching loading screens as they "make" the movie. Then you do it again and again and again. Sound fun? Nope! You don't even get to see anything cool going on. The coolest thing it has going for it is the poster of your movie if/when you get it sold to a major movie production company. Otherwise it's boring as hell and btw I LOVED gamedev tycoon, so this is not about me not liking or understand what kinda game this even. Despite knowing, I still was bored. Plus the gameplay is super choppy and glitchy that it was making me actual nautious. I just couldn't play it anymore and had to quit. With the tutorial being very random and vague I had no idea what I was doing the whole time. The U.I. is awfully organized and makes it hard to just click on your employees to produce more of hte movie because of how close together and confusing everything is. The only thing this game has going for it is its price and it's idea. EVerything else about it's execution is just awful. It's greatly appreciated and shows they care. As for what they said: 1. Zooming in to the writers trailer it doesn't load in all the way. 2. The U.I. needs to be widened its too hard to click on my producer's check mark with the quests there. 3. Whenever opening a new screen, either to name a movie, sell it to a producers etc. The game slows down exponentially and it feels choppy like a framerate drop. 4. The tutorial didn't tell me anything about what to do with a finished movie. Or how to hire new people. 5. There is no notification when a movie is sold, the money coming in, or for how long. Here's a big tip Devs. Go check out the game called GameDev Tycoon. Don't take their idea, however, use their model to help improve your own. It might give you some ideas on how you can make your game a bit more engaging. Again, super big thanks to the devs for reaching out :)

  Moviehouse is a disappointing take on the "Game Dev Tycoon" formula, set on - of course - a film studio lot. The premise is simple: hire a writer, and give them prompts like the genre, setting, hero and villain. Once they've written a script, you set the director off to produce it, and give them prompts like their budget for actors, who the lead and support are, what percentage of the budget should be allocated to X, Y, Z - and voila, you have yourself a movie. Over time, you upgrade your staff's creativity and craft points, which in turn allows you to write bigger and better movies. Unfortunately, unlike Game Dev Tycoon, Moviehouse struggles with unbalanced mechanics, a complete lack of difficultly curve, and areas of the game that are completely superfluous and have absolutely no impact on the production of your films. For the first few short films you make, you'll struggle with money - it's a fine balancing act between hiring reasonable actors and keeping yourself in the black. But after a short while, you'll start "investing" in other studios. After a couple of investments, you have a regular source of income that outweighs your staffing overheads, and you'll never need to worry about money again. Your employees have a happiness meter, and I don't think I ever saw anyone drop below "extremely happy". Sure, they've not had a holiday in 20 in-game years and I haven't given my lead writer a raise in the entire 25-year existence of our studio, but it's all good because we did well at a festival. My poor lead writer was still earning $1.5k a month while churning out scripts for billion-dollar movies. Odyssey Studios have tried to add additional elements to Moviehouse to add some more authenticity to the experience. You can hire a "crew" who can scout for new locations (which you can select during the production), and create props (which you can combine with sets, on those locations). Presumably all of this is for bonus points - match up a horror film with some horror props on a horror set in a horror location and you'll be laughing all the way to the bank. Except unfortunately this mechanic appears to be completely superfluous to the game - an added extra that doesn't have enough of an impact to make it important, and in itself has very little in the way of guidance to help the player understand what its purpose is. Ultimately, there was a vision here. It's a shame that, at least in its current form, Moviehouse falls short of being a solid entry into this Tycoon-style genre. Hopefully some of this feedback will be taken on board and future updates might flesh the game out into a more rounded experience. As it stands at the moment, I can't recommend it when it represents perhaps 2-3 hours of clunky playtime.

  I was really excited to play this game. I used to play Lionshead-The Movies so much when I was younger and seeing this was bringing back nostalgic memories of that game. However, at this point and time I don't think I can recommend. There really isn't as much to do. You don't get to the see the movies that are created, rarely does a movie do well (yet you make a ton of money off of it anyways, go figure), and at start up of the game there is little to no direction on how to begin. I want to like this game, A LOT. I really hope the developer works on it a little more and puts more into it. I can see great potential. At this point its just a click and go and I'm not big on those.

  For those hoping it is like The Movies, it is nothing like The Movies so that will turn some people off the game and to be honest it seems that everybody who has tried to make a game copying The Movies has failed to reach the finish line though one may make it later this year. If you zoom out in the game, the setting looks like miniature city map in one of the recent Call of Duty games (Vanguard?) which is pretty cool. This game is more like those game company making games only you run a movie studio from humble beginnings to the big time, you don't put buildings on the map or send your actors/actresses off to rehab or surgery, this game I suppose is less hands on and more pencil pushing than The Movies that everybody wants a modern day version of. There's lots of good features like research (don't ignore research) and movie festivals, investments, level ups (improves your studio lot), location scouts, set construction and more, research is important for growth and the investments allow you to rake in some cash especially early on. You can also level up your actors so they can eventually get to A+ status, it is important not to overlook this. When starting early, don't take a distribution percentage, take the full lot as you'll need every cent early on and keep the movies flowing so basically have your writer pump out the movies and your director producing them. It has been advised that it is worth spending the 25k for a film distributor to be found for you if no studios are interested in your movies, this will ensure that your movies will find a profit so you can keep going, it is OK to go into debt doing this as it will likely pull you out of it. Players have come up with a whole lot of suggestions for game fixes and improvements so it will be interesting to see where it takes us. If you're looking for a game in the style of Game Dev Tycoon then this is the game for you, if you're looking for a game like The Movies, you may have to wait a while for a game like that.

  Wow this is horrible. I feel like I got scammed. It's literally the same two actions over and over again and one view of a basically static environment that looks like it was designed at the dawn of the internet. Seriously there are web based flash games with more than this. Don't waste your money.

  I have been so excited for a new Movie Studio Sim, and this has been the most promising option since they announced it. Unfortunately, this is not much better than a basic mobile app. Now, I don't just have 20 hours so far on this game, but almost 200 on Movie Studio Boss 2, Hundreds of hours on The Movies, and Thousands on Hollywood Mogul 3/Hollywood Movie Studio. So I am a fiend and a thumbs down in this genre is something I didn't expect. The Balance is completely broken, the pace of upgrades is too slow compared to the deals and distribution buyouts, and while I could only make a movie a year, I bought all other studios as I could. I made a movie that got 7th at a Festival and was bought for distribution for 2.5 billion. I though "Oh boy, I'll self distribute the VHS and make hella cash" and then proceeded to make 100k on VHS sales. It genuinely feels like a game that fell into development hell and was abandoned, but was sold for peanuts to a publisher who dumped it for 10 bucks and is planning on walking away with the very, very minor updates that came in the last year since the demo dropped. I'll update this if they update the game, but right now, this is worse than the demo.

  I honestly wanted to like this game, the demo was a fun time and I like the Game Dev Tycoon style they had going on but like...there's no challenge here, once you start investing in competitors you can basically coast off that passive income while you pump out stinkers with no real indication of why or how stuff like a Bad Boy wouldn't be a fit in a romance movie or a sleazy politician isn't a good fit as the villain of a mystery. It all seems a bit arbitrary if I'm honest with you.

  The demo was very promising, and I assumed that they would balance the game more reasonably. Unfortunately, this title disappoints. The game is laggy and clunky with so many bugs. The balance of the game is terrible - you can only hire entry level directors and writers and after acquiring a few rival companies, you can earn billions doing nothing whilst only paying a few thousand dollar a month in wages. It doesn't matter if you make a terrible movie or not, you earn huge amounts doing nothing. The actors are the same, there is no rotation of them. A waste of money.

  unfortunately quite hollow. Lacks flavor. Choppy performance. Feels lifeless.
