Very Innovative to add superevents to regions, opens massive amounts of potential DLC and Modding content. This was a big and risky step to make for Paradox, but the system implemented is very smooth and is very fun in the context of a game end goal. The next struggle added should be a Byzantine Content patch with a Turkic/Islamic Invasion Struggle, but that is just me. Potential for CK3 is crazy with this, hope Paradox realizes how many doors have opened with this new mechanic. I certainly love it, I hope everyone else does too.

Felt that the price increase for expansions ($20 to $30) was outrageous. Now that flavor packs will soon go from $7 to $13, I can no longer recommend them. $13 for the amount content on offer is asking too much. Go look at the thousands of games on steam that're $10 or less and compare them to this: do you really think this is worth more than Left 4 Dead, Undertale, Terraria, Fallout: New Vegas, Portal, Dishonored, Garry's Mod, Half-Life, etc? Get it on sale for atleast -50%, which is how I'll be getting all future DLC from now on.

The fact that you can accidentally cause the struggle to last forever by being too successful is incredibly stupid. If you conquer too much of Iberia too quickly, you can cause the struggle to never trigger the hostility phase again making it impossible to end the struggle through Domination. To try and solve the eternal struggle you either have to use tedious cheese strats or you have to intentional disassemble your nation. The fact that this still remains an issue more than half a year after the DLC's release shows a lot.

I would love to like this DLC - it adds a whole lot of cool events and mechanics, and I've had a lot of fun playing in Iberia, but I can never really go that far into it because, while the dynamism it adds is fun, it is pretty broken at its core. My problem is that the Iberian Struggle is insanely rigid and nothing you do, unless you do it completely relentlessly (or if you cheese everything) will change it. I've played a fair few games in Iberia at this point, and the way I understand it is that it is almost impossible to actually end the struggle, especially with Dominance. The rigidity of the race between Hostility and Conciliation is noticeable - you give land that is not your faith or culture and give it to a ruler that is your faith and culture, thereby replacing the old order of this land and giving the go-ahead for your culture and religion to rule - that's Conciliation for some reason. Starting and ending wars doesn't even count that much towards Hostility, and the AI loves to build specifically so that Hostility is avoided. This rigidity removes any feeling of game impact from you - whatever you do, unless you cheese it, Iberia will inevitably go down the Conciliation route. And while Conciliation is indeed very fun, and I love making friends with rulers of different faiths and cultures who would hate my guts otherwise, I'm a bit of an achievement guy and I would love to have some way of, you know, getting the achievement of ending the struggle through Dominance. This goes on to the next major issue I have - the requirements for actually ending the Iberian Struggle are so rigid it doesn't really make sense. You have to, for example, own less than 50% of Iberia if you want to go for Reconciliation, so the game pretty much forces you to release people just to get that number down. If you want to go down Dominance, too bad - as I've said before, Conciliation is very hard to stray away from, and Dominance requires you to have Hostility. And then there's the problem of having your primary Kingdom title converted entirely to your culture and religion. If you're playing as a small Kingdom like Navarra, that's not a problem, but when your title is way larger, like Valencia or Andalusia, you're going to have to wait for a long time. Even when you own 100% of Iberia, the game still doesn't allow you to end the struggle if you don't meet the very long list of conditions. That's why I've never gotten the Dominance achievement but have only gotten the Reconciliation achievement - which, although I've heaped criticism onto this DLC, was honestly one of the most fun games I've ever played in CK3. That being said, I feel like it would be good if I were to talk about what I liked from the DLC. I honestly think that, if you look past the broken core mechanic, it is very, very good - it adds a ton of flavor, nice unique decisions, and fun events that allow you to buddy up with neighboring rulers or hate them to an extent that isn't seen if you're playing elsewhere. Iberia feels much more alive and dynamic than anywhere else in the game, and playing outside Iberia really bogs down to a simple gameplay loop that doesn't really deviate across games. Again, however, I cannot really give a positive review of this DLC unless the main issues with it (that I see) are fixed. I don't think there's really much of a point in playing in Iberia for too long unless Hostility and Conciliation are balanced (as it gives the player the feeling of not really having much impact on the game) and it is made easier (which, I think, directly follows on from this as a result) to end the Struggle.

Price for this DLC (and Northern Lords and every future "flavour pack") is going to double from $6.99 to $12.99. Paradox claims it is to “reflect the overall value of this kind of content moving forward”. My question is what value? No DLC (three DLCs till now) have introduced any meaningful or complicated mechanical impact to the game. Complex gameplay is what made CK2 fun and ingaging. But we are not getting this here, we are just getting some new clothes, army skins and underwhelming "struggle" mechanicks. I recommend buying this DLC durring sale or just go buy an indie game.

I've been buying and playing PDX games for twenty years, longer than many current players have been alive. I have played and own every game and expansion they've put out, save one or two music packs, ect. Finally I've been downvoted into oblivion for defending Imperium: Rome on reddit. So it pains be to give a negative review for this DLC, it's the first time since EU3 that I've been so disappointed in playing a PDX game, and the first time I'm frustrated enough to leave a bad review. What I like: I like the unique cultures and "religions" they added to the Iberia region. They were trying to add some flavor and complexity to the area and I think the addition of these added something to that. I understand though that these are not accurate religions, but the devs were hamstrung by the game mechanics and using them as religions was the simplest way to accomplish their goals. I appreciate the attempt and it doesn't affect my enjoyment. I like that you can get different bonuses/punishment customized by how you end the struggle. The additional clothing options, I'm big on that stuff. Could have done more here. What I hate: I hate that the struggle is separated into phases which limit your actions. Unfortunately this is the "meat & potatoes" of the whole DLC. The requirements for ending the struggle are way too strict mostly because you have to be in specific "struggle phases" before you're allowed to end the struggle. It all just seems like an arbitrary way to slow down the player and is just another anti-blobbing method. Missing a phase meant it could take another century to end the struggle. I conquered all of Iberia and Aquitaine, with the worlds largest treasury and army but still couldn't end the struggle due to being in the incorrect phase. I fu^king hate that sh*t, to the point where I wasn't enjoying the game and used a console command to continue. The DLC only adds one, just ONE, special unique artifact, the Bells of Santiago. The artifact system is one of the best innovations that CK3 brings to the table over its predecessor, but it still feels neglected this far into CK3's life cycle. You mean to tell me that throughout the history of Iberi in the middle ages and they could only think up ONE SINGLE THING that could be added as a special artifact?! To make matters worse, and what prompted me to write this review, is that that one artifact is bugged. It apparently has a hidden requirement in order to gain the benefits of owning it, you have to be in the struggle. This means that if you, like me, have successfully ended the struggle, you (and in fact no one) can meet the requirements of gaining the bonuses. Because this was the only artifact added by the DLC, it's kinda like THE TROPHY for WINNING the struggle, but it's less useful than the generic fake Excalibur hanging in my throne room because I "no longer meet the requirements" (which are listed in the game files but not in the item description). This was a golden opportunity to add some unique throne rooms to the game. My Andalusian throne room looks not that different than the throne room used by the Abbasids. There was either no effort or very low effort here for this DLC. The whole struggle mechanic was not the kind of complexity I want to see going forward. I don't want to have a whole different rulebook for each region of the world, this whole struggle with phases mechanic was just too much and was kinda unnecessary. I know people will disagree and some think that any added complexity is good, but memorizing a whole new rulebook was too much. Why can't I convert this county? Oh because I'm in the wrong damn phase is why. I hope this isn't going to be the way the game takes shape going forward. In conclusion: This DLC fails to me because too much effort was directed at the frustrating, hampering, confusing, needless, poorly designed "struggle" mechanic, and the ONLY artifact added is still bugged months later, making it pretty useless. I'd like to see DLCs going forward which avoid needlessly complicated regional mechanics and focus on flavor such as: lots of artifacts and special artifacts, clothing and crowns, throne rooms, unique governments (for Byzantines), ect. The unique mechanics for the Norse and Byzantines in CK2 was the correct way to add flavor and customization to regions/cultures, Fate of Iberia is very much the INCORRECT way.

The only good part about this flavor pack is: Modders now have something new to play with. Honestly Modders used struggle mechanic 10000 times better than Paradox. Community the only reason I'm giving this pack positive review.

Paradox devs really are braindead. Somehow, if you conquer 100% of Hispania, you can't end The Struggle through the mechanic you paid for in this DLC. How does that make sense? There is no one left to struggle with.
