Honestly, I was quite put off this game from the reviews that exist. While they were probably valid at the time, I think Charterstone Digital Edition deserves another chance. I'd give it a 7 or an 8 out of 10. I've played the board game but was unable to finish it with my gaming group (maybe someday we will?) so I picked this up and finished the whole campaign in about 4 and a half hours. No Issues, no bugs, it just worked like it was supposed to! Sometimes you will wonder 'where did those extra points come from?' but if you look at the goals and objectives - it makes sense and I can actually trust the game to do the correct calculations for me. All in all, a really good experience.

I bought this to play Charterstone asynchronously with friends. Unfortunately, I think it's terrible for asynchronous play. It's pretty, and crossplay (across different kinds of devices) works fine. The problem is that this is a legacy game and all of the story events and rules changes are really hard to track. You do see the contents of boxes that are opened in game, but there is no log of past events. We have a discord on which we discuss the games we play (we play many async) and most of the players on the discord are pretty lost as to what's happening in this game. And it's the fault of the implementation; we don't have this problem in other games we play async. I think if you played this realtime it would probably be fine - it does look good and plays smoothly - but I would discourage this for async. One other small grumble: Because it's a board game, there are often times when you have no action to take, such as when all you can do is recall workers, or when you just have to confirm an event but there is no decision to be made (only one mandatory option). In async play the game makes you log in to confirm these non-choices before the game moves on to the next player. It would have been better if they included an option to skip turns in which you make no decisions.

Having played through almost all of the board game, I am utterly delighted with the digital version so far! It is, first of all, super adorable. I imagine I would be a bit lost at first if I hadn't played the board game, but you can tap on everything and get info/rules about it all. I did want to note that the listed system requirements for 8gb RAM is wholly incorrect. I'm playing on a little 4GB RAM Acer Spin with zero issues, so if you were worried about that, please don't be. Also, highly, strongly, intensely encourage you to use the touchscreen if your laptop has it. It is a delight. So excited to start a new remote #HealthyAtHome campaign with my board-game group since we are unable to gather in person for a while. Also a feature suggestion for us ADHD players: it would be very helpful to be able to "pin" a card to my screen so I can easily refer to what resources I am trying to gather without checking my advancement cards each time.

Fun implementation. I had not played the board game but watched Rodney's (Watch it Played) How to video and was able to pick it up. Legacy format seems to fit Computer based delivery model as I hate the concept of ruining a physical copy of anything to show progress.

PLayed 6 games of original boardgame, so i knew the basics, but without better tutorial game might be a little overwhelming. There are more bugs then i would like to care for. 5-6 games in and nearly every game i am stuck because of worker placement issue which forces restart ... (i pick worker, think, and try to return it. THe game soft locks and i cant do anythng from that point). The game WILL be great when bugs are sorted out.

For the price, this game really needs a tutorial for multiplayer. I'm glad the full rulebook is accessible, but I cannot in good faith recommend anyone (especially groups) purchase this game at this time. The first full campaign of Charterstone is the best part of the experience, and is the reason why so many players love the game so much. The experience a new player gets in a private multiplayer lobby currently is frankly terrible, and I don't know how the game could have possibly released in this state after so long in development and after multiple community betas.

This game is quite buggy. Tried to start an online game with friends and we get the error "invalid game data" and can't continue. Don't waste money until this game is more stable.

Pretty darn nice implementation of the board game. I have played the campaign once in real life :) I have finished one campaign with this program against 5 AI opponents. My second campaign got really wonky screwing up rules and end of game choices. I think I might have hit some less major bugs in my first campaign, but I don't know if I just wasn't paying enough attention or wasn't clear on various rules. Sooo, It is good and it is fun. The developers are already patching the game that was obviously released a bit too soon. But they ARE patching. Sooo, number 2, The AI is pretty quick on my computer, which I like. I play against the computer, so slow AI opponents are a drag. The game looks great. It is a bit tough to keep track of everything. Once the campaign gets in a few games, there really is a lot to keep track of. You really need to keep clicking on the various objectives and what is available to you. With the real world board game, you can see everything with a few glances, but here it takes clicking and remembering. I can definitely see myself playing through the campaign multiple times, and for the price it is a pretty good deal. If you can play with friends, it is probably pretty darn cool :) I haven't played online, so check other reviews for that aspect. There is hidden stuff that gets exposed when you take a turn. I would like to be able to take back a turn anytime that doesn't happen. It is really easy to forget the way certain things play out, and then not to be able to take it back when the result is other than you expected. As of 3/30/2020 I have quit my 2nd and 3rd campaigns a few games in due to bugs that screwed me. It really is looking like folks should wait until they get this sorted out. My game never crashed. It just picks a rule to ignore that it cannot ignore. This might be due to the fact that the rules do change from game to game within the campaign. In the first fail the rule that comes into place automatically at the end of the second game never did come into play in later games. In my 3rd campaign I invested in cards that would get me victory points during income but I never received that income. I don't recall that being a rule possibility, but it might be. It wasn't during the game it did it to me.

This is one of those times when I need to give a neutral thumb rating. IF you have played the physical board game I would absolutely recommend this game. Whilst it doesn't quite have that fun factor of placing stickers on the board, physically moving bits around, opening boxes and creating a very personal final game - this is a wonderful digital implementation of the game. And the big advantage of the digital version is that you can pay once and replay the campaign again and again. Add in the lovely graphics and clean interface and this is one of the best board game adaptations I have ever played. For those who have not played the physical board game this is a much harder sell. The tutorial is non-existent. And because of the nature of the campaign, new rules and mechanisms are added regularly but are rarely explained well, or at all. This is a terrible situation for a new player. I have played the board game some time ago, and I still found it confusing as I tried to remember what and why things had changed from one game to the next. Clicking the question mark on the new 'thing' will give limited explanation. So you then have to try and find it in the built in rule book; but often it is still not clear what the new thing does. This is compounded if you are playing multi-player. Also it would be good to have some better way of seeing the moves your opponent made - there's no log. Finally, I would highly recommend you do NOT play a 'single game' before playing the 'Campaign' as it is easy to spoil some of the features which unlock during the campaign during set-up of a single game. If you are willing to persevere and are happy to pause your game while you hunt down the info you need (and perhaps even venture to forums), this is a charming and fun worker placement / engine building digital board game.

I LOVE Charterstone, the legacy board game. That being said, I'm willing to put up with quite a bit while playing this (faithful) digital representation. However, this feels like it shouldn't have left the *alpha* stage yet, it's so buggy. Sure, the great thing about digital media is that you can release a fix, something you can't usually do for regular board games..but that doesn't absolve you from having to do proper QA. In its current form, I would only recommend this if you need your Charterstone fix and you have no one to play it with...say, like if you're locked in due to a quarantine. I hope to revisit this review at some point in the future when patches will have made this game feel like a legitimate release, and not a pre-early-access mess of bugs.
