  Before anything else, make sure you rebind reload to right click, and your Ability slot to something else (another mouse key if you have one). Trying to reload with the R key while strafing with WASD is not the move. I was excited to play this game the moment I saw the trailer posted back in April. While this game is very enjoyable to play, I admit it's far from perfect. Fairly scare on content like unique weapons/enemies/upgrades/etc, the power creep during a run is ridiculous (you're either one-shotting everything by level 4 or you're losing), it's hard to see enemies/upgrade altars with the dumb red filter, etc etc. But y'know, it's still fun. Sometimes you just need a game where you can feel awesome for keeping a perfect rhythm while melting everything in your path. I expect I'm either going to play this for a week and then never touch it again, or I'm going to regularly come back and do a run every day for a month or two. Best thing this game could receive is mod support.

  I thought I didn't have rhythm. Then I played this game. It confirmed that, but it's still a lot of fun.

  BPM is a very simple game, and that's what makes it great. There's no plot. No cutscenes. No backstory, no dialogue, nothing. Zero fluff. You start at level 1 and the game says, Here's a gun, now get on with it. The rules are also simple. There's music. Shoot on the beat. Reload on the beat. Dodge on the beat. The enemies also follow these rules. That's really all there is to the game. And pardon my understatement, but it's kinda great. The soundtrack strikes the perfect balance between being kicka** and also being steady and unobtrusive enough not to break your concentration (because believe me, you're gonna need it.) The enemies all have unique behaviors that you have to learn--there are patterns to their attacks, when they're vulnerable, so so on, but they aren't hard to learn. Another great thing about the game is that it's short. Don't let that statement dissuade you because look--the game is FUN. And the fact that it's short makes it much more accessible. Me, knowing what I'm doing (and with really lucky loot rolls), have clocked a full run at about 15 minutes. The first time I beat it, it took me 45 minutes to an hour. But you know what I DON'T want to do after a long day? Sit down and watch a game with cutscenes, or where I have to think hard about stats or upgrades or super intricate combat. Got a little time to kill? BPM. Tired but not tired enough to sleep? BPM. Just need a break from studying or working or whatever? Boot up BPM and let your brain get in the zone for 30 minutes. I have replayed this game SO MANY TIMES purely on the basis of it being fun, quick, and simple. The game does have a couple flaws, however. A lot of people don't like the color filter, which I understand. The reason the devs used it was to make the game more visually cohesive, since it uses recycled assets. Some people have complained about it being hard on the eyes, and while it doesn't bother me personally I can't say that I don't understand their complaint. (You can turn down this effect in the options, however.) Occasionally the visual effects can put you at a disadvantage by making it harder to see what move a boss is telegraphing, which can be annoying. And the game seems to be mostly bug free. Occasionally you can get some airtime if you jump off of stairs the right way, and twice I've had a particular enemy that teleports, teleport himself outside the room... Since you can't leave a room until you clear the enemies, it soft-locked the game. (One time he teleported back inside and I was able to kill him. Also, you can quit the game--there are no saves or checkpoints for death, but the game will remember the level you're on if you quit--you'll just restart that floor.) Overall, though, these are minor gripes, especially as the bugs happen so infrequently. BPM: Simple, fast, and a frickin' blast. I replay the game almost daily just because it's so much fun. There's a slight learning curve when you first learn to shoot (and reload) on the beat, but once you get the hang of it you'll be off and rolling. One other thing: Spending money in the shops will help your later playthroughs. The more you cumulatively have spent, the more items become available, and the standard shop (aka not weaponsmith) will have a free health potion for you. TL;DR: I heartily recommend this game!

  Like Doom Eternal and Crypt of the Necrodancer had a baby, and that baby only knew how to see in one boring color palette.
