Quake II คุณสมบัติ

Developed by id Software in 1997, Quake II is a critically acclaimed first-person shooter and sequel to Quake that deviates from the original by introducing an entirely new science fiction narrative and setting.

*Quake II now includes the main game and both expansion packs: The Reckoning and Ground Zero.

Story

Mankind is at war with the Strogg, a hostile alien race planning an invasion of Earth. To prevent the invasion, humanity launched a preemptive strike on the Strogg homeworld...it failed, but you survived. Outnumbered and outgunned, fight your way through fortified military installations and shut down the enemy's war machine. Only then will the fate of humanity be known.

Mission Pack: The Reckoning

In the first official expansion pack for Quake II, you are part of an elite commando force that must infiltrate a Strogg site. Once inside, you must scour industrial landscapes, crawl through waterways and air ducts, navigate treacherous canyons teeming with vicious mutants, stow away on an alien spacecraft, and destroy the enemy's secret moon base.

  • 18 New Single-Player Levels

  • 7 New Deathmatch Levels

  • 3 New Weapons - Ion Ripper, Phalanx Particle Cannon, and Trap

  • New Enemies and Power-ups

Mission Pack: Ground Zero

Taking out the Big Gun sounded simple enough, but the Strogg were waiting.

In the second official expansion pack for Quake II, you, and a few marines are the lucky ones. You've made it to the surface of Stroggos in one piece and are still able to contact the fleet. The Gravity Well, the Strogg's newest weapon in its arsenal against mankind, is operational. With the fleet trapped around Stroggos, only 5% of ground forces surviving, and that number dwindling by the second, your orders have changed: free your comrades and destroy the Gravity Well.

  • 15 New Single-Player Levels

  • 14 New Deathmatch Levels

  • 5 New Weapons

  • New Enemies and Power-ups

In this post, I'm not going to quibble about whether or not to recommend Quake II. It's Quake II. If you're here, you are probably well aware of what it is and are just looking to gibb some Strogg with a super shotgun. What I will offer though is some tips for making it run smoothly, to take the hassle out of digging through forums. The Steam version is just the base game, as it was in 1997. To get it running on modern systems, I recommend using the Unofficial Patch v3.24 available here. This helps to stabilise the game, introduces a bunch of fixes, adds native widescreen support, and makes the music playable in game. The creator also has a ton of other mods and fixes for Quake II for those that are curious. To get the soundtrack, just follow the instructions from the user that uploaded it here. It is compatible with the patch above, and runs the soundtrack flawlessly. Now using a library of OGG files locally instead of running them off of a disk. (Which also has the handy function of making them easy to listen to at any time if one is so inclined). For any younger folks not familiar with old systems but curious to try a classic. Run the game in either Software or default OpenGL mode. The former will give the game a very "crunchy", compressed, and pixelated sort of look, intended to be rendered entirely from the CPU. While the latter will give it a much smoother look with a full lighting model, effects, and other odds and ends. Aimed at rendering from the graphics card. Trying to run in either 3Dfx or PowerVR modes will cause the game to crash, as the software is wholly incompatible with modern hardware. Given that the cards associated with those APIs are 20 odd years out of date. As a quick note for those that are curious, the software rendering mode of Quake I & II has actually been used as an influence for modern retro shooter aesthetics. Such as in Devil Daggers and DUSK, which may look more pixelated then expected for anyone that has only experienced hardware accelerated 90's shooters. Because of the incredible community around Quake II, the game has been kept alive, updated, modded, and working on modern systems for 24 years at the time of writing. Preserving a piece of gaming history that is just as fun and satisfying today as it was nearly a quarter of a century ago. Hopefully the above information helps anyone interested in getting started, and looking into a game that helped to define a genre (along with play an unwitting part in the history of the platform this very text is on).

They need to give this the same treatment as QUAKE 1 for its 25th anniversary and overhaul this great game.

The QUAKE series helped define what video games are today and the second game is No Exception. Completely different from the original gritty medieval feel of the first QUAKE but nevertheless amazing, with an interesting twist on the staple alien landscape of other sci fi games of the time. The storyline is fairly simple but strong, giving you one main objective per level leading up to an epic final battle against the Strogg leader. The game had impressive graphics and enemy AI for a FPS in the 90’s but it still keeps a challenging and worthy atmosphere today, combined with a incredibly unique artistic aesthetic, pairing terrifying cybernetic abominations and machinery with an dusty, dull orange world, I have yet to see replicated. The Multiplayer is really good, though the only way to connect to servers is by manually typing an IP and connecting just like granddad used to. I think Quake II is a fairly underrated game on Steam today, overshadowed by the other legendary installments of the Quake series. As a Die-Hard Quake fan I have played thousands of hours of the original CD-ROM box set and was delighted when I saw all of the quake series and DLC’s on Steam. Not many people talk about Quake II or it's contributions to the gaming industry, but if you research it you find that the development of Quake II was responsible for technological breakthroughs such as the modern day Skybox, the next step in Lightmaps and colored lighting, out-of-the-box support for OpenGL graphical rendering, and even the groundwork for an experimental Virtual Reality System called the CAVE®, decades before modern VR headsets became popular. Ultimately if you enjoy Retro games or are a big fan of FPSs this will be a crucial part of your collection. One last selling point Quake II has one of the most 0rg@$m1c intro cut-scenes in video game history.

Do you really need a review for Quake 2? Just buy the damn game before Carmack comes to your house and Quad damages your teeth in.

1997 game that runs online "out of box" in a few seconds and is more fun in MP than several modern games. RTX update is cool but I hope for another update by Night Dive Studios, in the same way as they did for OG Quake. Then it will be perfect.

Certified Hood Classic. I just wish this would get the Quake (1996) rerelease treatment.

Great game, but the only thing that put it ahead of the first one, for me anyway, was the music. This is a fully-playable version of Quake II, but the soundtrack isn't included, because it played off of the disc. Only god knows why they would choose to release it like this, it desperately needs a remaster like Quake I got. If you're fine with modding the music back in, or are okay playing without the music, by all means.

!!Important!! When you buy this it is not optimized for current computers however there is a patch you can get called the yamagami port that fixes everything with the original music hd, models , full screen etc. another thing to note is this is and is not a sequel to quake 1 do not go in thinking it is but it is the id formula we all know and love with key cards amazing music weapons good level design pretty much all the weapons to exact from id games and A BIG FUCKING GUN . This game needs the remaster treatment quake 1 got but until then the yamagami port does just fine. Please check this game out if you like id games or just shooters in general i myself love quake 1 better but this needs more love.

Look, quake 2 Is a good game but this port Is incredibly shitty I recommend you go to a scalper and buy the original disc Instead of this Doo doo fart excuse of a port, hell You're probably better off pirating it off the web, this port is a Complete waste of money plus its extremely hard to fix and to get operating properly Also a very nice addition to remove the soundtrack, yeah you heard me they removed the fucking Soundtrack.WHY, WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING?! Anyways Quake 2 by itself (not the port) is about an 8/10 The port however is a 1/10

It's supposed to be a classic, but it did not age well. Aside from the janky interaction with modern OSes, we've just learned so much about the art since. Pick up Doom (2016) or even some of the GZDoom based games instead.
