Remember all the things you loved (or perhaps, hated) about FMV games back in the 90's? Well, All Seeing Eye Games does and has packed "Press X to Not Die" full of them, along with a bit of self-referential humor and even some current industry tropes along the way. Like the games from decades past that it undoubtedly draws upon, Press X to Not Die casts YOU as the protagonist in a world that has all of a sudden gone mad. In true "Interactive Movie" style, the video scenes that follow as the story progresses are shot from your perspective and characters in the game address you directly. At certain points, you will be presented with a situation that requires a button press (or combination thereof) within a specific time frame depending on the difficulty selected. At other times, the player selects from a dialog tree or similar to keep things moving. Though these interactions represent the entirety of the gameplay, the approach here is faithful to the FMV games of yore. Additionally, the developers have done a fine job of interjecting humor (self-deprecating and otherwise) into the proceedings. On the standard difficulty, I was able to get through the entirety of the game in just about a half an hour on the first go through with minimal deaths. While I was a little surprised to have seen the ending that soon, the length of Press X to Not Die is commensurate with the price of admission. There also exists the possibility of replaying the game several times, whether it be at a higher difficulty or to intentionally not press the required buttons or make different choices to see how the alternate video scenes play out. In all, Press X to Not Die succeeds as a throwback to a genre that left the spotlight as quickly as it entered it over 20 years ago. It also succeeds as a tongue in cheek reference regarding why those games had limited appeal and short shelf lives. Regardless of which one is more prevalent, Press X to Not Die succeeds and is worthy of a purchase.

Press X to Not Die, Is nothing more than a "Press this button now" game. And although many games like this already exist. Press X to Not Die is one of the few that's just really fun to watch/play. The acting is so simple that it's just fitting. The story is simple and yet funny and missing a button will make you laugh. Well, pressing the correct button also. The only thing I didn't like about this game is the fact that it's a bit short. But, on the other hand, it's a lot of work to create these interactive movies. So, there's that. My advice: Buy this game to Not Die!
Portable Description
Press X to Not Die is a short (~30 min) FMV game filled with cheap humor and predictable QTEs. With various death triggers, nut shots and game endings to experience, be prepared to stay on those fingertips.
Gameplay
Full Motion Video In a world where a certain type of people are immune to some rage-inducing virus, you must get to your girlfriend and figure out how to survive. This FMV game is comprised of 7 chapters. It will take the player approximately half an hour to reach the end of a single play-through. This interactive movie parodies a lot of common tropes observed in a virus outbreak story; however, Press X is much more laid-back and comedic about it. It even breaks the fourth wall quite often to help develop a more direct interaction with the player, while making fun of itself at times. Although this game is extremely amusing, many players may not enjoy the style of comedy or sense of humor Press X employs. The dialogue and script can be too cheesy at times, and the cast is a tad on the ordinary side. From a more technical standpoint, the video clips are often too discontinuous between decisions. A more seamless transition would be ideal. Quick Time Events The gameplay of Press X is all about the triggered QTEs, with sprinkles of multiple choice decisions mixed in. On a M&K setup, the game utilizes approximately 9 different keys/buttons to proceed through each QTE. Some will be “press _,” others will be “rapidly press _ and _,” all in an effort to: dodge, hit, swing, run, climb, choke, etc. Most of the QTEs will be fairly predictable with regards to timing. If an obstacle, object, or human is suddenly in your path, a QTE will occur. There are very few abrupt QTEs, and upon death, the player will restart from a recent checkpoint (generally immediately before the failed QTE). The button prompts mostly vary, even if redoing a scene. Several QTEs will also need to be failed to achieve specific Steam achievements or discover unseen footage.
Conclusion
Advised Suggestions There are a few suggestions that may improve gameplay listed below.

Allow the player to skip certain sequences (useful after dying for the 10th time).
Improve the transition of spliced clips between decisions – a little too jarring at times.
Implement dedicated save slots (similar to visual novels) or a “rewind to last decision” option.
Verdict Press X to Not Die is essentially a QTE simulator with a “story”. Unfortunately, the editing, script and dialogue leave a desire for more; however, the lack of FMV games on Steam makes it hard to regret purchasing Press X, especially at such a deeply discounted price ($0.59). The game’s blatant disregard for the fourth wall and plentiful amount of death triggers earn it a recommendation for any non-hypercritical fan of FMV or QTE-heavy games. Press X to Not Die is an interactive short story with Full Motion Video (FMV). It's short but worth playing through for its quirky laugh-out-loud humour alone.
Story
A lot of people are suddenly behaving ferociously, attacking everyone who isn't afflicted on sight. You know, like in that shitty M. Night Shyamalan movie, The Happening. Or was it The Village? Never mind all that. You'd better check if your girlfriend is alright, hadn't you?
Gameplay
Gameplay consists of selecting dialogue options and coping with quick time events (QTE). I hate QTE but I'm an FMV afficionado so I had to try out Press X to Not Die. It's safe to say the experience rekindled my hatred for QTE but nevertheless, Press X to Not Die is definitely worth playing through at least once. You can choose between four difficulty modes which determines the number of buttons you need to press simultaneously and how much time you get to press them. So it's up to you if you want to just experience the story or if you want agonizingly difficult QTE. On the hardest difficulty, you need to press up to three keys AND one of the mouse buttons at the same time within two seconds. That's physically impossible for us people who only have two hands instead of three. I'm sure it's a bit easier when you use a controller, as you can at least use both hands on one single peripheral but I for one didn't want to bother using a controller to play what's basically a visual novel. The story is branching and some choices you make early in the game will affect later events and even the ending. It's a very short story so don't expect a lot of content. What you can expect is getting to see a lot of creativity that makes great use of an obviously low budget. The best part of Press X to Not Die is its quirky, laugh-out-loud humour. I especially advise you to fail each and every QTE the first time, just to see what happens. Often you'll get to see funny stuff that way. The acting is cheesy. That's the way it should be. Really, FMV traditionally requires cheesy acting because it just fits the medium perfectly, and even more so in the case of Press X to Not Die because the whole game is a reference to cheesy B-movie horror.
Graphics and sound
The FMV is of top-notch quality. Man, if only the classic FMV games from earlier days could have supported movie-quality graphics like this… If the youngsters among you want to have a quick impression of the FMV we had to look at in the old days, you can switch on '1994 Mode' from the game's menu. You'll immeditately see the photo on the main menu page converted to 1990s-style FMV graphics, and will most likely immediately switch back to 2017 mode. The sound is sharp but some dialogue may still be lost on people whose native language is not English. They've got that covered: from the game's menu, you can enable subtitles in English, Spanish, Russian, Simplified Chinese or Italian. The game's menus are also available in these languages.
On Steam's extra features
Press X to Not Die has 5 Steam Trading Cards. You'll get 3 while running the game. There are only 11 Steam Achievements but they are a varied bunch, and getting 100% completion is quite a challenge. All the achievements are missable. One achievement can only be unlocked if you bought the DLC. Several achievements require you to play through the game multiple times. The achievements granted for completing the game on the hardest difficutly settings, especially the one for not dying at all on the hardest difficulty mode, will prove extremely challenging to most players. As noted above, playing the game using a controller may be advisable if you're looking for 100% completion.

'Press X to Not Die' is hilarious for 30 minutes. That's about the time you need for a single play-through. These first 30 minutes are just fantastic. I hadn't laughed that hard for a very long time. It was awesome. If you're willing to pay 3$ for 30 minutes extraordinary fun, you'll be just fine. In case you care to collect some achievements or wish to see story events turn out differently, you need to play the game several times. The second time is quite funny too. But the third, the fourth and the fifth play-through clearly wears off and the game becomes very repetitive. Nevertheless the first 30 minutes did it for me. This was enough to clearly recommend this game. It's just too funny. Pros: - some very good acting from most of the actors (students) - the Asian zombie girl was brilliant - good screenplay - many very funny lines - the 'I love chocolate' scene - Christine singing Lady Gagas 'Poker Face' under the shower - great overall gameplay idea - tons of ketchup, or was it really blood? Cons: - too short - the person you see most - your girlfriend Christine - is clearly the less talented actor of all - killing me with a samurai sword for peeking into the bathroom, while my girlfriend takes a shower is not cool - the higher difficulty levels are way too hard. Press like B + X + RT + left stick right at the same time in 0.2 milliseconds! WTF!? And the button selection is random and changes every time.
