  Overdrive really outdid themselves this time, it's a shame this is Overdrive's final visual project. The Japanese visual novel industry has been declining for years, making visual novels of this quality hard to come by.

  What I can say... well, it's good. The story is purely about the music and hard life of rock bands. There is almost no romance at all. But that's good, because I needed variety from romance novels and change of pace. There are unexpected twists and turns. A lot of philosophy about music. The main character is pessimistic and sullen, but I am the same, so this is also advantage for me. From the technical side, the NVL format is annoying. Что сказать... ну неплохо. Новелла чисто про музыку и тяжелую жизнь рок групп. Романтики вообще почти нет. Но это хорошо, потому что нужно разнообразие от романтических новелл. Есть неожиданные повороты. Много философии про музыку. Главный герой пессимистичный и угрюмый, но я сам такой же, поэтому это тоже плюс для меня) С технической стороны раздражает формат NVL (это когда текст на весь экран, формат старых новелл).

  Musicus is an experience about a part-time student, who explores his local rock scene with the potential to go even further. I am honestly pretty on the fence with how I feel about this visual novel. It's innovative in it's own ways, whilst also being extremely lacking in others. It has nice moments of realism, mixed in with some dream-like events occurring. There were a lot of things I wasn't a fan of, but in the end if I had to choose if I enjoyed it and would recommend it or not, I would say it barely won out and I would recommend this. There is a lot to enjoy about it. The different philosophies explored, the effort in making rather real scenarios and the amount of effort put into making the music and keeping that band alive outside of the game itself. The writing I would say it generally good. The characters have interesting personalities, some that relies on tropes as a base while some are quite unique. Through a small bit of googling, though this is OVERDRIVE's last work, they are keeping the band from this game alive through VTubing on Youtube. It's rather lengthier than other visual novels, as well as having quite interesting routing choices. Now onto what I found negative about the game. The engine is okay, but I'm not a fan of how the text is displayed. The images get covered by a darkened overlay and text appears, just like the screenshots show. I don't really like this because they try to display actual paragraphs of texts at once, which is just a pain to read or want to read. It would be easier if there was just line by line, but there are so many paragraphs that make it harder to enjoy and look at. The art itself is fine, but the sprites for characters have quite a few different appearances, like they copy+pasted a base for the sprites and drew on new clothes and accessories for them. It's a nice change and adds nice variety that other visual novels do not have, but something about it also makes it less appealing? There are a few scenes that have too much CG, and some that lack them. I found myself getting lost as to how much time has passed in the story because the game just transitions and just says its this month now and it goes on, so the flow of time could be a bit more clear. The general routes are fine, but I wish the way that the story splits was done differently, because there feels like a much better story could've happened if they found a better way to mesh it all together. There are a few moments the writing took some mental gymnastics to figure out how things became the way they did. I feel the main character can be really inconsistent at times, beyond character development reasons. Some of the choices you can make are ancillary and don't really add anything to the story, but they not really fun either. There is one character that I absolutely despise, yet the writers decided to make him a core part of the entire thing. I wish they could have at least gave him more likable traits or just make him less him. Though I wrote much more strongly about the negative, I didn't want to write much about the positive because I didn't want to spoil it too much. But in my opinion, the positive just barely outweighs all the negative after one is able to spend time to read it. The overall experience was nice and I don't regret it. The price is a bit much, so I would recommend it on sale.

  MUSICUS: 一曲献给小众创作者的赞歌

  音乐是个谎言。花井是清如此对主人公说。人们并非感动于音乐本身，只是感动于音乐背后的故事。即使是三岁小孩的演奏，只要说是渐冻症的音乐家生命最后的绝响，听众一样会为之感动。 这并非戏言。综艺节目早已做过类似实验：普通人甚至分辨不出缺了一根弦的废琴与顶级提琴所奏出的音乐，也分辨不出芭蕾舞校新生与顶级芭蕾舞者的舞蹈。 那么文字又是如何呢？ 单从理性角度看，MUSICUS远非一部完美的作品。情节设计谈不上精巧，也没有环环相扣高潮迭起的剧情，反而不乏三日月被泼硫酸、澄被车撞这种突兀的机械降神。人物塑造方面，各个女主（尤其是澄、弥子）的形象塑造很难说优秀，哭笑不得的是，反而是金田这个集合了人性种种缺点的角色塑造得栩栩如生，配合声优完美的演绎，真的每次出场都让人恨不得立刻上去扇他一巴掌——但这真的能吸引读者读下去吗？剧本发挥上，虽然大部分场景的代入感和沉浸感都不错（优秀的环境音也是加分），但依然有不少地方写成了流水账，金田的各种离谱言行也相当破坏氛围。路线方面，个人感觉写得最好的反而是BAD END线，主线从走投无路一转顺风顺水虽然美好，却总是给人一种不真实的都合感。 说了这么多不足之处，为什么我依然觉得MUSICUS是一部非常优秀的作品呢？因为或许文字与音乐一样，也只是谎言吧。 长期叫好不叫座，一度落魄到连超市便当都买不起的濑户口廉也，在封笔多年后，复出执笔这么一个关于小众创作者的故事。在看到主角们挣扎在温饱线上进行乐队活动，尽管业内人士都认可他们的才华和实力，却依然不管怎么努力都只能停留小圈子里，无法获得大众认同的时候，在看到主角们茫然于什么样的音乐才是自己想要的音乐，什么样的音乐才是大众想要的音乐，音乐活动的意义到底是什么的时候，或许不自觉地，就把主角们和作者濑户口廉也、以及自己的某些部分重叠起来了吧。这个游戏的选项设置可以说非常直接地反映了作者的态度：indies时期乐队活动的选项，不管怎么选都无法改变乐队销量停滞不前的状况。而后只要支持三日月独立mega出道，就会进入三日月走红而乐队解散的结局，反之乐队整体mega出道就能整个乐队一起走红——换言之，mega出道是决定能否走红的唯一因素。音乐是个谎言。能让音乐传遍普罗大众的，终究不是音乐的力量，而是资本的力量。 音乐只是空气的振动，想依靠音乐向大众传达些自己的什么终究是不可能的。花井是清、三日月、对馬馨最后都认识到了这一点，而花井是清也因此选择了自杀。所以音乐活动的意义究竟是什么？在作品的最后，作者借花井是清的幽灵之口说出了看法：不管音乐究竟有什么意义，对于“我们”这些音乐工作者而言，音乐是必要的东西、是重要的东西，仅此而已。这种英雄主义，某种意义上也和KIRA KIRA最后的“向这狗娘养的世界，献上我全部的爱”有着异曲同工之妙吧。 经常有评论说濑户口笔下的世界永远是黑暗的、令人窒息的，但在最后的最后，总会有一束微小的光。如果音乐之于本作主角们的意义就是文字之于濑户口的意义的话，希望濑户口也能抓住这一束微小的光，写出更多有趣的作品～
