  Did I enjoy the game? Yes Is the store description true? Not really. "Each choice can open a new mystery of the house and lead to a unique walkthrough and ending." By which they mean, there's 5 very linear playthroughs in which you have little to no choice. Your only choice being which path will you take first. That's it. It's also very short. After the 5 walkthroughs and collecting every achievements, I'm sitting at 1.8h. So overall, a good game but short and kinda misleading. Buy on sale.

  Imagine if Layers of Fear, A Machine for Pigs and The Shore had an underdeveloped baby. That's this game. It's three separate mini horror games stitched together with two final acts that try too hard to have some kind of meaning. There was so much potential here but sadly it falls short. Particularly the last act which just expositions you to death with a boring story that is totally disconnected from the rest of the game. There are some great elements, but they're either poorly executed or by the time you get into it, it's over. I saw IGP play the first chapter on Youtube and I was so excited to see the rest of the game, thinking it was an open world house that I could explore, which it claims to be. Lies. I've never been more disappointed in a game.

  The story and gameplay are good it starts out quite unspectacular, but at a certain point you'll realize that this game is more than it seems. The self-increasing story suddenly turns and you find yourself in a nightmare

  At first I thought that this house was slightly bigger inside than outside. Then I went down to the basement. I found the plot to be somewhat surprising. Suspense is here and it is very consistent. All in all, that was very enjoyable game. I highly recommend it.

  This is the BEST horrorgame I have played in years! I streamed it and everyone really enjoy their time with it. It has plenty jumpscares, the story is great, the graphics are AMAZING and the gameplay is a lot of fun. It feels like it's a mix of visage, fatal frame, a bit "lovecraft", some ghosts and murders, but still a great time and totally worth the money!

  Your task in this horror walking simulator is to break into an abandoned house, steal an item and disappear again. Easy? Wrong ;) The story and gameplay starts out quite unspectacular, but at a certain point you'll realize that this game is more than it seems. The self-increasing story suddenly turns and you find yourself in a nightmare. The game combines many different good ideas from the horror genre and uses them well. From jumpscares to chase scenes and small puzzles. Graphics and sound are very harmonic. The price performance ratio is top notch. 0 [] You don't even scare children with that 1 [] boring 2 [] i fear no ghosts 3 [] horror? realy? 4 [] you scare children with that 5 [] what was that sound? 6 [x] where is the next closet? 7 [] scary like hell 8 [] another corner?! 9 [] let me out of here! 10 [] i don't play this game!

  I hate to admit it but this is the first game I've encountered that has actually left me disappointed to the point that I would fail to recommend it, which sucks because I really want to like this game more. Being that it's still in Early Access I am hopeful that some of the issues will be addressed and I can change this to a positive review in the future, so take this with a grain of salt. First of all, one of the things that had originally caught my eye about this game was the promise of a "Choose your own Nightmare" and that the game was "Open for you to explore" as stated in its description... However, that could not be more far off from what this game really is. The game is completely linear, you don't have much of a choice on where to go or when you can go there. Technically speaking there are different stories for you to discover, but I wouldn't consider them as separate unique walk-throughs, they're more like different segments of a single walk-through. Each segment is pretty straight-forward and there's not a lot you can do or choices you can make that stray from what the developers want you do do, and to make matters worse the way this game hold your hand made me feel like it was meant for children. Many times I hadn't even finished fully exploring a room (which I was forced to go into) when the item I was supposed to find was highlighted in a bright fluorescent outline. The Narrator does a very good job of telling you what to do even before you know you're supposed to do it, in fact, you could have just entered a room and he's already telling you where to go next and what to look for. And since we're on the topic of the Narrator, to even be able to hear him out you have to stand completely still, because if you move too much or pick up an item then the audio will cut out and the next audio segment will start automatically, making you miss out on some of the dialogue and forcing you go back and do it all over again just to make sure you didn't miss something important from the story. As for the story, it was decent at most but in my personal opinion it lacked more depth. Once I finished the game and reached the big reveal, which took only about 2 hours, I found myself thinking back on what I had just played through and asked myself how it all tied together, and for the life of me I just could not find an answer. Don't get me wrong, the game had its moments and there where some interesting plot twists along the way, but I just feel that as a whole they left me with more questions then answers. Now that we've gotten all of that out of the way, there are some redeeming qualities to this game as well. As a horror game it does a great job of setting up a grim mood for you to play through. The tone of the music is appropriate and graphically I don't have anything to complain about. I'll admit that this game got some great jump scares out of me and each individual story is completely different from the one before, but at the end of the day it just left me feeling like there was more that could have been done. All in all though I think the bad far outweigh the good, at least in the games current state. The price tag is not bad but there are much cheaper games out there that have given me far more hours of entertainment than what I got from House on the Hill. If you wish to experience the game for yourself by all means go ahead, it's not a bad game, but as for my recommendation I would say to wait for the final release.

  Though it's still in EA and it sounds like some folks are getting a few bad bugs and glitches here and there, I took a chance on House on the Hill. Thankfully I didn't have any performance issues and even better I ended up enjoying my two hours with the game quite a bit. With an interesting premise and plotline packed into a succinct and to the point experience, HOTH drops you into the shoes of a thief and his sidekick who communicates to you via headset. You're tasked with breaking into a mansion, stealing a priceless artifact and then getting out. Of course so much crap hits the fan putting our hero in a fight for his life against an axe-wielding, gas mask wearing maniac and well...it only gets worse from there as the supernatural comes into play. Revealing too much of the plot won't really be helpful here, so it's the gameplay I'll tell you the most about. You'll be exploring, solving light puzzles, utilizing a unique camera system (taking photos of the paintings in the mansion and watching them change into menacing scenes was one of my favorite high-points from the experience), running from a host of strange foes, interacting with items and objects and even stopping to "fight" at least one relentlessly dogging monster. There's only a handful of buttons needed on the keyboard and mouse but it felt like the game throws a nice amount of variety at you from start to finish. The atmosphere in this one is a high-point. Nothing really out and out scares me anymore being an experienced horror movie watcher and game since '82 but there's a solid amount of chills and strangeness in this unusual yarn. And the deeper the journey takes you the weirder it gets. It was also nice to see the story unfold with an agreeable level of note-reading included but nowhere near the overload of some games. The fact that a lot of the key plot points are conveyed through your partner, Frankie, over the headset was a refreshing change of pace and one of the game's coolest ideas in terms of story. The game does have a few downsides, some of which that could easily be polished for when the game comes out of EA. For example the controls are a bit on the drift-y side and the one segment which involves dead-bolting a door or facing the executioner's ax immediately was infuriating as my mouse clicks simply refused to register until I found a smaller than small hotspot. Additionally, I found the first chunk of chapters far more interesting than the later ones. (LOCATION SPOILER) There's an overload of suspense when you're exploring the mansion itself and it's the star of the show compared to the more dungeon-esque/underground segments that comes later on. I think it wraps itself up nicely but those later areas don't offer the same nail-biting, manic energy as the initial chapters. There's a couple of different outcomes as well if you're into multiple endings and that sort of things. Without giving too much away and trying to keep my reviews short, punchy and something to help out others, House on the Hill is a great experience for this coming Halloween. Even without a sale its $6.99 price-tag feels completely justified for that content that you get. Like an upper-tier B movie thriller with wider appeal potential, House on the Hill is a surprise success this season and an experience that definitely satisfied me enough to recommend it to others.

  This game is amazing. It looks great, the story is very creative and the direction is very impressive too. The assets have g0od textures and the design was beautiful. The events on this game got to scare me a lot, A LOT and that is Great! I loved it. I was on stream and everybody got scare too, one person even got his juice spilled over the desk. The voices are also very well done, the narrator was very proffessional. Keep it up, I want to see more of this in the future.
