About Mafia II

Vito Scaletta has started to make a name for himself on the streets of Empire Bay as someone who can be trusted to get a job done. Action-Packed Gameplay:

Intense gunplay, white-knuckle car chases and visceral hand-to-hand combat —it will take all that and more to become a “made man”.

welp, i wanted to play the classic edition over the definitive edition because i wanted to experience the authentic and the raw charm, ambience of the game. unfortunately the game kept crashing every 5 or so minutes, which basically made it impossible to play the game. so inorder to scratch the itch of mafia 2 , i had to play the definitive edition which had it's fair share of issues but at least that didn't crash on us.

Partly thanks to the raging community, but also thanks to the caring and loving developers. I think that is worth a thank you! So THANK YOU for caring about your previous games, no matter how old they are! (Say thank you down below!!!)

274 hours of my life and I finished the game three times - that's what I've sacrificed since the release of Mafia 2. I have nothing to complain about this game, it was great in all aspects. I registered some complaints that this game is quite short (my younger self also complained).. but if the game runs on a difficult difficulty, achievements are hunted and both DLCs are going through, the problem is solved. The realism of the Mafia series is a well-known fact, but I still have to remind you of this big plus, because the feelings while I have to go refueling a car, how a policeman fines me for speed, as a pedestrian fu*ks (bounces) on the sidewalk, because he slips in winter ice.. these are the things that give the gaming experience a new dimension. Soundtrack of the main menu - chills. 95%

This review is based on a purely vanilla playthrough.

+ While the graphics are nothing special, they seem to have aged well + Top-shelf voice acting for the entire cast + Getting in trouble with the police is much more interactive than many other products of this genre, allowing you to pay fines, bribe officers, or attempt resistance on-site + Fist-fighting mechanics are cinematic, intuitive and entertaining + There is a speed-limiter key for toggling "safe driving mode;" a massive quality-of-life feature that every free-roam game should have + Game boasts very competent storytelling, with an even pace and solid character development + Has a great cliffhanger ending; seeing the story through to the end felt worth it + Every aspect of the aesthetics, from the clothes, to the vehicles and music, is period-appropriate and has a pervading feeling of authenticity + Vehicle handling feels realistic and smooth + Stock, reliabe cover system and shooting mechanics; nothing you haven't seen before, but the devs seemed to have settled with the 'less is more' approach, and it complemented the gameplay nicely + Engine optimization is excellent + While the explorable area is more of a medium size compared to competitors, there is still much to explore throughout the game world, and it feels appropriately sized for a small city + Active modding community, and the game itself is easy to alter + Some minimalist stealth mechanics that are well-implemented, though it isn't often revisited - Many crashes; I've heard that this game has problems with AMD cards, though, so NVIDIA users may not have these issues - Poor weapon selection (only about 7-8 usable firearms) - No side missions, and little in the way of collectibles or extra content (though I cannot speak to the DLC); little replayability - NPCs feel flat and generic, doing little to liven up the atmosphere of the city - Lack of post-campaign free-roam (though a simple mod can fix this if you don't mind the small hassle)

    Better than Mafia III

If you're looking for a free-roaming game like Grand Theft Auto, fuhgeddaboutit. Mafia 2 has an open world, stores to shop at or rob, a police system, and many other things you'd expect from that sort of game, but like Mafia 1, the game is a lot more structured, and instead of having much in terms of side content it plays out like a traditional game campaign, with little time for free roaming. But the game's world is still well-designed, even if it's mostly pretty window dressing, and it makes the campaign feel more alive than it would if it was just a corridor shooter. It's not an amazing game, but it is a unique one. Mafia 2 is the kind of game where the police are actually police, and even though they'll probably never catch you they'll still try to ticket you for breaking the speed limit. It's the kind of game that isn't afraid to be a little tedious to give a sense of contrast between a "normal life" and the mafia life, like an early level that has you packing crates into the back of a truck to test your patience until you give up and leave. The developers do a good job at recreating the time period, and the cars, radio, and weapons all handle and sound pretty nice. The story and gunplay are both pretty well-done, and overall if you're a fan of mafia stories like The Godfather than Mafia 2 is worth a shot, as long as you don't go in expecting a true open world game.

Why Mafia II will always remain one of the most memorable games of all time!!

ATTENTION TO DETAIL The level of detail in Mafia II is just unbelievable. The first thing you will notice are the set pieces and let me just say they're breathtaking. 2K Czech have crafted a perfect 1950s world design. The world looks so alive, the buildings, the interiors, cars, the people passing down the streets - the developers took care of every single detail here. You'll see people minding their own work like reading newspapers, fixing cars, using the phone booth, workers on duty like cleaning or moving shipments. But that's not all. You can have a snack or a bottle of beer to replenish your health, it's more important than you realize because you don't regain a full 100% health bar without eating, I ended up forgetting about this quiet often. You can interact with objects in your apartment. The suits and jackets in-game aren't flat textures, all of them are richly detailed and even move while sprinting. All these details add an immersion to the game. STORY Mafia II already excels in aesthetics but I feel the biggest selling point of Mafia II is if of course - its rich narrative driven plot. The story and characters are so well written, uh...without spoiling or giving away too much, I'll just say if Mafia II was made into a movie it would have been nominated for several awards. There's everything you would expect from a gangster story. The developers did not shy to overlook mature themes. There's blood and violence, real tension between the factions. Vito Scalletta is the protagonist of the main game and he is very likable and charming character - which is a good thing. Joe Barbaro is the secondary protagonist and he is just amazing, his personality is the opposite from Vito and it blends and works perfect! Story is divided into 15 chapters, each taking place on a different date. Every character you interact with feel naturals and real. Voice acting, lip-sync, accents used by the Mafia and supporting characters is fantastic. Players who've returned after playing the original game will be rewarded with a mission that at the later part of the game. You'll be surprised when you realize how the first game connects to 2002's Mafia. I'll advise to play Mafia 1 remake before jumping on this entry!! GAMEPLAY 1. DRIVING - You'll spend a lot of time driving. There are at least different 40 cars you can drive. Mafia II takes place in the span of around 8 years so don't get disappointed if you see crappy cars early on as new and better cars are kept for the later parts. There are sport cars and they drive like a plane!! Nearly every vehicle can be modified, repainted. Cars you steal can be legalized by changing the number plates. You can also improve and upgrade the horsepower, you can repair your cars you will do that and no, the cars you damage do not get auto-repaired once you put them in your garage which look so realistic. If you crash your car, you need to get out repair it manually. Cars also get as much detail as other things in the game. 2. GUNPLAY - Its great, you'll be amazed how intense it gets you're in a fight. Enemy A.I is intelligent and will shoot you at sight. It's very challenging on highest difficulty. You can try shooting at stuff and watch everything just break apart in in-door fights. Every object is a separate object and not a 2D texture. You can shoot and damage shelves, paintings, little containers and walls. When you kill a shop owner or a civilian, you are wanted by the cops which is not uncommon but you'll be surprised that the police will investigate the crime scene and will seal the shop/crime area when you try to got back which is just amazing. Which modern AAA game really does that? Turn on Nvidia Physx to max and you'll love watches things such as stones, glass, metal crumble and break apart into tiny pieces. GRAPHICS, SOUND & MUSIC - You're looking at the most detailed game of 2010 (Just cause 2 comes second). Great choice of licensed music from the 50s. I'm a little worried as the licences might soon expire. Hurry up!!

    Things that you might dislike

-One of my biggest complaints about the open world design is that it's LINEAR. It was really sad to see there was nothing to do once the story missions were complete. No side missions and activities. -Manual saving and loading would have been much better instead of checkpoint save system. -Cops will try to fine you a ticket if you dash other cars or try race over 40 kmph. I like the realism however it becomes a pain when you just want to enjoy the game. -collectables are missable and specific to chapter.

    Should you buy Mafia 2

YESSS.....One of the best Stories told in a video game. Even with its few missteps, Mafia II won't disappoint you. Mafia 2 (Classic is included as a part of Definitive Edition). 10/10 - PERFECT
