  Well with some new games you start it all seems quite instinitive and everything seems to fall into place even with quite complicated games..Unfortuneatly for me at least Ironclads2 American civil war isn't one that does.No tutorial doesn't help either and even after reading the manual its all rather difficult and frankly a bit of an odd setup.But it looks good and I think the concept of naval operations during this period is worth having a bit of a fiddle. The ships look good,but controlling them is not as easy as in Shogun2 Fall of the Samurai however there are many options of things to make and courses of action to follow.In the very short time I have played there have been no bugs or glitches.So if you like the period I think this maybe a useful addition to combined ops in the US civil war.Give it a try....

  Thanks to the developers for a fun, fun game. There is lots of depth to be found under the initial apparent simplicity of this game - don't run off because some have spent little time on it, then trashed it. Buy it! Ironclads 2 is very easily moddable. All files are in plain text .xml. I've done a lot of game modding and 3rd party software for games over the years. This one is built on the same chassis as Pacific Storm + Pacific Storm Allies. You can change ANYTHING, including the game interface. I've already modded and upgraded the camera angles, font colors to make them more readable to my old eyes, fixed the issue with the non-working ESC (escape) key. I'm playing with the battle map interface right now. Much more can be done. Victorian Admirals, also by Totem Games (though a simple battle interface) and the other naval games in the developers kit bag are built on the same chassis too, and highly moddable. I picked up Victorian Admirals for the cheap, cheap price of $2.99 yesterday.   As a game though this is a very good one, one that anyone interested in naval warfare should look at. If you are even remotely interested in naval warfare from the great age of the gun then this is a very good game to check out. The game isn’t perfect, the interface can be frustrating to newbies but the game is fun, and engrossing. The game is not a fast paced game. Yes, you can speed up the time in the game, in fact, you will have to if you want to play the game at all, but even so this is a slow paced game and the action fulfils itself over time. If you want a quick bang bang style game then this isn’t it. The ships of the time were notoriously inaccurate in their firing and in this game it is evident. You will fire hundreds of shots at an enemy ship before you will finally sink it. Yes, there may be a lucky shot but don’t count on it. In the end I recommend the game.

The game has a lot of potential. I prefer board games. This game is similar to them. I played a little bit, but enjoyed.

  If there was ever a game that deserved the “buy it if you like the genre” rating, this is it. Seriously, you should buy Ironclads if you like the genre, and people who are only slightly interested in the game should probably look elsewhere. Ironclads is a very realistic approach to naval combat in the middle 19th century, a time period that has gotten almost no coverage. Ironclads definitely does not serve as an introduction to naval combat strategy simulations. Instead, it’s one of the best games of that genre available and intended for veteran players and people who are serious about their naval operations. The realism means that Ironclads doesn’t have the wide appeal like some other games and I can’t recommend it to everyone, but it does fit its niche very well and fans of the genre will not be disappointed.

  I Want My Money Back i thought i was buying a simulator set in an alternative history where the battles may have been won by the south or regular history by the north, the battles are nothing like the trailer showed them to be, i got all the ironclad 2 games on sale because they were dirt cheap.......... now i know why. there is no tutorial. no real training. prices for ship are outrageous. you start with little to no money. i uninstalled the game today because i just cant play DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

  This game is an enigma. It has some nice aspects to it, mostly that it allows you to experience a watershed moment in naval warfare. Yet it is very limited and certainly not worth the 19.99 dollars that I read was the original price. Lucky for me I paid a trifle for it. Basically the game is a battle simulator for up to eight warships on both sides and those are limited to two columns. This feature is at the heart of the game and the most developed. However for any experienced naval gamer the lure of options that the game seems to provide does not pay off. Most do not seem to work. And to top it: the AI is pretty stupid. These sea battles are tied together by a strategic part of the game. This involves you in conquering ports and blocking or breaking blockades, depending on the side you pick. The ai gets a big advantage: it goes second after you assigned your forces on a map that shows all commitments. In that way it is sure to get drop on you. The game is buggy. At some point I was unable to create infantry for totally unknown reason. Luckily quitting the game and reloading solved that. But not so nice was a crash after winning an important sea battle. I had to redo it. More issues cropped up. Be sure to save often. The stragic game is pretty locked down and historically totally unrealistic. The CSN gets about 2/3 of the USN production, which is nonsense given the strategic advantage of the USN. But this game has to give the Confederates at least a sporting chance and does so by limiting the federal production, giving the confederates an ironclad way before the federals get one and the limiting the federals by the slow production of ironclads. Making a monitor cost about 16 turns in a 48 turns game and you need to get enough money to get it which means about 20 turns from the start you get to your first one. The USN has to hold out against CSN ironclads for like 12 turns. Yeah, Hampton Roads will never occur in this game. Some ships are totally pointless, like the steam frigate. Immensily expensive(1 million dollars) and with a massive production time, by the time you can field it, the war is almost over. Game in practice is fought out with a handful of monitors and infantry. Once you know the drill you know the game. Limited, buggy and too expensive: a thumbs down.
