  Def not worth $5 because all it adds is literally just a bridge that has set build points on a map. This should have either been a free update or wrapped up into a future DLC. I absolutely LOVE the game and want to support it but this DLC is a hard pass.

  Now don't get me wrong, Frostpunk is an under-exposed and under-appreciated absolute gem of a game that I have and continue to enjoy immensely. I say that now to offset the below. Do not buy this DLC. The idea of using bridges to expand your city along different lines is an interesting one but it fails in the execution. The bridges can only be used on the single new map and also CAN ONLY BE BUILT IN PRE-DEFINED LOCATIONS. This completely goes against any freedom the ability to build bridges should allow and serves to actually make the map much more restrictive than those in the base game and limits your build options hugely. Also (as a gameplay aside) the bridges are massively expensive but you need them to be able to access any resources, locking you into a failure circle as you can't gather enough on the starting areas to both build bridges to the new areas and to satisfy your people. I know this is part of the challenge of the map but the cost is soo huge it just makes the whole experience frustrating. This on top of the restrictive nature of the map mean it is a definite no from me.

  I can't believe 11 bit studios thought it was a good idea to release such a poor DLC. This should have been a free update or contain much more content than a single endless map and bridge building. A new scenario could have been great too.

  It's not a good value and it doesn't add much to the game. The bridges are basically a new map with a mechanic that locks resource expansion behind a series of ingame resource paywalls in the form of expensive bridges. That said, frostpunk is amazing and, with discounts, pretty cheap these days. The new map does look cool, offers an extra challenge and since frostpunk has no microtransactions or nonsense like that I feel good about supporting the devs and buying this.

  This is sad to see, especially on such a great game. The map is unique and definitely fun to play on, but that's all it is... a map. I understand that there is an additional cost for DLC like the last autumn, but charging your already paying customers $5 for a map? I'm unable to recommend a DLC for a game I would vouch for otherwise... a shame.

  This is what you get for your money: A single map for endless mode with rifts (holes in the ground) around your very small starting area. To be able to get past the rifts and get access to mines and other resources you need to build the bridge, which costs a high amount of resources (200wood & 150iron) and is only available in this DLC map. The rifts requires you to adapt your tactics, so unlike all the other endless mode maps this one is slightly different and does somewhat mix the feel of a szenario and endless mode together, in a good way, at least it does so for the first 25~ ingame days. After this it is basically back to the good old boring no endgame and no surprises vanilla experience and all the old core game problems again. Overall It only took me around 6 hours and 5 tries on extreme difficulty and w/o any prior knowledge on the map to “beat” it. Meaning building a city that basically can't fail anymore and having no deaths at all. Oh and also this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1892782455 People & automatons simply air-walking over the rifts on the map. While it is very minor it just puts in perspective the quality of work behind this: the bare minimum. Also be aware that this is still in the game almost 2 months after the DLC got release. So is this DLC worth the asking price of 5 bucks? Hell no. Is it worth it with the season pass? Maybe, rifts makes up a very small portion of the season pass and it’s hard to tell since we essentially pre-ordered two more DLC’s and it will depend on how they turn out. Could you get better content, for free, if the devs would enable the workshop/mods? Definitely. Should you buy this to “support” the devs? If you are stuck in the mindset of an underdeveloped 10 year old and truly believe that you “support” anybody other than the marketing team in figuring out how few they can sell you for how much, than sure. Otherwise think logically if a company which sold 1.4 million copies* of it's game within the first year alone is in need of any “support” that would warrant selling content for 4x more than it's worth. The answer is no and the math is below. --- *1,4million copies * 30$ per copy = 42 million $. We will be calculating the worst conditions here and assume that all sales were on Steam, even though the game is available on GoG as well which takes a way lower cut than steam does. Anyway on steam 30% of the asking price will be going to Valve. So rounded up 13 mil of the 42mil would end up in valves pocket which still leaves 29 million $ revenue for 12bit studios. Taxes would still need to be deducted but as so many game companies do, they might evade them anyway or at least partially. But even if we assume a 20% tax cut on the 29 million that's still at the very least 23 million $ revenue just from the first year. So yes, I’m sure they are in dire need of support and are depending on selling you 1$ worth of content for 5$. Or the TL:DR: 30% cut for steam, 20% taxes, 1.4million copies sold for 30$ per copy sums up to a 23$ mil profit within the first year alone.
