I liked the first game and then this sequel was good too. This part of the game has the Gravity Gun, how can you say no to a gravity gun?

I bought this in 2005 (at the full price then) being a huge fan of Doom but never had a computer to run it on at the time. I don't know what happened to the copy in the end. I never got around to playing this since. Now, I finally get to play Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil after all these years - and I hugely enjoyed it! I'd heard it wasn't really that impressive over the years, but I thought it was great! Very atmospheric, with good background music. All new areas, which did feel like a bit of a retcon, but you do get to visit some recognisable areas a few times! Such as the old office in Administration that the Pink Demon crashed into. The window is still smashed and the door still buckled. As for the new enemies, I'd heard of them all but this is the first time I got to play against them. They are so challenging! The first time I saw the cutscene for the Vulgar I went "Aaaagh it's the creature from Species!" They are difficult and extremely vicious, and when you see multiples of them, you'd better get the artifact out quick otherwise they'll quickly tear through your whole health. As for the bruiser with the tv screen face, I'd seen the pictures, but wow what a scary massive creature it is in game, like a cross between a Hell Knight and a Mancubus, and faster and much more aggressive. Very frightening to see the huge beast teleport in. It's like "Oh gosh what IS that thing? :o" The old enemies from the main game all make a welcome appearance and it's good to see them back. They are generally used much more sparingly. Once the revenants start appearing though, they really start appearing, with often more and more teleporting in and many times in pairs or more. Wraiths appear a few times; Maggots in the waste tunnels; those awful babies just a few times, much more sparingly and easily taken care of with the grabber, so much less annoying. Trites appear a few times, and can now jump and explode so no hiding up on furniture this time. I'm glad to see ticks make a few more appearances this time after just ONE encounter in the base game. There are even a few commandos, both types. But this time there is no chainsaw to take care of them. The first appearance of the Hell Knight had me cowering and made me squeak like a mouse. I'd heard the game is very easy because of the artifact and the grabber, but it was actually VERY challenging, and a sizeable difficulty increase over the base game. Maybe once you get the hang of the new weapons it all clicks but they are very much offset by the increased difficulty, such as fighting dual revenants at the same time, and more than once fighting FIVE in a row. The double barrelled shotgun is fantastic. I think it was sergeant Kelly's. You can even take down a revenant in one solid blast if aimed well. The grabber takes real practice to master. To be honest I didn't think I would enjoy it, only seeming to be here because of Half Life, and I wasn't keen on having to learn the mechanics. But to my pleasant surprise the grabber is satisfying and fun to use. By the way, don't make the mistake I did. On the 3rd boss, the electricity invulnerability Hunter, you don't need to spend the entire showdown catching all his shots with the grabber to fire back at him, and to destroy the chambers. You can just use regular weapons to do this! Yeah, I didn't know that, and did it all the hard way! He is the invulnerability Hunter because you gain that ability by defeating him. That does not mean he is invulnerable during the fight (only when he's charging himself in the centre of the room). The aiming reticule on the HUD turning red on impact denotes the enemy is being harmed. All in all, a very enjoyable old school expansion, with a difficulty spike over the base game similar to Doom Eternal The Ancient Gods (sort of). Maybe once I get the hang of the new weapons it'll become easy. But yes, recommended!

I played this expansion pack when I was 15, I must have been very impressionable and easily pleased back then. This expansion pack is horrendously boring by today's standards. It feels like single Doom level stretched out to an entire expansion that is just going through the motions to get you to the ending. There isn't much thought put into the campaign's story. You're a marine at the dig site that lets a demon loose and you need to fight your way out. From there the game becomes a fetch quest to get battery cells to power areas and lifts to get to the next level. You will do this over and over again through endless tight corridors, where demons continuously spawn in front and behind you, every so often enough the game will introduce a new demon out of nowhere. In one level, the Mancubus and Revenant make a cameo - but it just feels like the expansion is ticking a checklist of enemies. This works in tandem with the weapon loadout - you are drip fed a new weapon every 10 or so minutes until you have every Doom weapon at your arsenal. It makes for a very rushed experience. Speaking of weapons, you are given a super shotgun, which is probably the only redeeming feature of this expansion - it packs a punch as it makes you feel like a total badass when it obliterates your enemy in a single shot. You are also given a bargain bin version of the "gravity gun" ala Half Life 2. In this game, this weapon feels incredibly cumbersome to use - it blocks your line of sight when you pick up objects or enemy fireballs, and usually when you fling them back at your enemy they never actually hit them. The animations and look of the marine are also quite poor overall. In his cutscenes, it looks like they left out frames of his animation. His face also looks really confused most of the time, he has this weird deer in the headlights look. There are also some really poorly designed platform sections that are tedious and frustrating that feel like they were put in to pad out some gameplay - it just doesnt work. I know I'm being harsh on a 15 + year old title and that this is an expansion, but I didn't have the internet back then. I look at what Valve was doing with Half Life episode 1 and 2 and this just doesn't hold a candle to it by comparison. If you loved Doom 3 you might find this a really subpar experience and just a flat out waste of time. Personally, I would not bother.

Asks you for a D3 CD KEY, No 1920*1080, you have to somehow find how to open the console (ctrl + alt + ' , mind you ) and enter 6 commands to play with a decent resolution (still looks stretched in the end). Without the steam guide forget about any of that haha. Just annoying !

DOOM 3 BFG Edition unnecessarily simplified this original DOOM 3 expansion. I recommend playing this one for the full expirience. Also had a "gravity gun," before it became mainstream.

Resurrection of Evil is the official expansion pack for Doom 3, being also developed by Nerve Software and released in 2005, just a year after original. It's a pretty standard good expansion pack, adding new levels, new monsters, new weapons and adds a bit to multiplayer. It also had Xbox version, where it was standalone, had flashlight on pistol and also included classic Doom games. Technical problems are same as Doom 3. If you set up config file for Doom 3, then you will not have to change anything for this addon. Just repeating. To fix game always setting low texture quality and to add widescreen support you have to edit config file manually. As said, I recommend visiting PCGamingWiki site as it has a good example for autoexec file. And yea, I still had same technical smaller problems. Bodies not disintegrating properly. Lighting/shadows breaking slightly after getting to the next level. Stuttering and lag on modern hardware. As for multiplayer, it still looks quite dead. I write this one single phrase too much, playing old games and all. Anyway, expansion pack also would increase player limit to 8 and add Capture The Flag gamemode. Oh, and Double Shotgun, yep. Didn't get to play any match yet so still can't comment on fun or quality. The plot of this game follows that UAC didn't give up on Mars, not to mentioning that they recieved some strange signal from the dig side 1. The research is actually ran by female character about who you could learn in original Doom 3 through PDA devices, as the one to ask for UAC investigation on Dr.Betruger. Your team's job now is to investigate what is going on there, so sure thing you blow a wall up, grab artifact and let the hell break loose once again. And now you have to go and kill the main villian, closing the main cliffhanger for Doom 4 from the Doom 3 ending, dooming us all to wait another 10 years until new Doom game. Good job. And so begins yet another 10 or so level long adventure, coming from caverns and back to the base. This time around it feels less polished on survival horror side. Or at least it has less emphasis on this. Areas felt less greatly done in shadow/lighting, there wasn't as much of darkness. There wasn't as much of atmosphere either. Like, ambience in sounds is even more forgettable. In all honesty, I doubt that putting player into same experience as in Doom 3 would have worked, seeing how long that game lasted in the bases. And it has some interesting scenes, like zombies walking through X-Ray or very occasional spook. Still, it's still doesn't feel as special. Yea, means no new music. But hey, at least now it's more actiony, it doesn't take long to get into parts where you will fight few monsters that aren't just dumb melee zombies. Not to mentioning that I like the way story was given here a bit better. It doesn't spam with as much of useless audio logs. And PDA shows email and logs that actually seemed to be written during the invasion, making it feel more immersive and interesting to me. And just look at all those new weapons that the developers added. It's like they listened to what was cool in 2005 and putted it in. - Double Shotgun, check. Because it was cool since Doom 2. Just like Super Shotgun in Doom 2 it's more powerful than it got to be. I mean, seeing how it can easily one-hit most of enemies and Doom 3 is all about just facing very few enemies it's a bit too much. Still awesome gun. Still menly. Well, fine, at least Expansion isn't afraid to throw more than one enemy at you in same time. - Gravigun, check. Because Half-Life 2 made it cool. Apparently it has some long name and mainly called Grabber. Now, I was laughing at it since Doom 3 had one of the worse implented physics at that time. Enough to be there, not good enough to be actively used. And sure thing, throwing boxes and barrels was wacky at best. But actually, as it immeditly shows you in cutscene, it's made it so you could grab enemy's fireball and throw it back, which is why you have only limited time to hold object. And for fireballs it works excellent, not to mentioning that monsters often die from a single hit, so it's actually cool gun. - Some cool-looking heart artifact that also slows time down, check. Because Max Payne made slow-mo cool. Actually it becomes more powerful as you progress, adding increased damage and invincibility, as if it wasn't enough. While it may feel annoying that when you activate it monsters spawn into room way too long and you often have to kill them all before doors are unlocked, there are so many corpses in the game with which you feed this thing that I felt that I could as well use it in almost every fight. Yea, I felt that I was given too much firepower in this one. It also brings out new monsters, but nothing that can bring enemy side on same level as you. The only two worth noting were much more stylish-lookings variety of imps and this new juggernaut of sorts that is like Mancubus but shoots more often. Eh, actually there isn't much new. At least it got boss fights! And they are pretty good, even if you can just use your heart artifact on them. Actually, I think that they require you to use all these new powers you got, so enjoy, they aren't too weak. Worth noting is awesome final boss who doesn't suck this time around. Because in Doom 3 the final fight was weak and gimmicky once you realized what to do. Good conclusion. Expansion Pack gives player of Doom 3 more of gameplay hours. It tries to amuse them by focusing on less darkness and by adding new cool toys to use. But it doesn't feel as polished by me and less special. Still cool.

MUCH better than the main game. It plays less like a horror game and more like good ol' Doom! The Artifact, which briefly buffs your character, helps balance the difficulty and allows for a more offensive oriented playstyle. Outnumbered? Low on health? You wanna just blindly charge into the enemy horde? The Artifact's got ya covered! Aside from the artifact, the whole expansion pack was clearly designed with fun first in mind. It's just more fun to play than the main Doom 3. There are fewer corridors, more enemies to fight, the boss fights are more intense and you even get the classic Super Shotgun! If you played Doom 3, but didn't like it then give this expansion pack a chance! You will be pleasently surprised!
