  Damn, this visual novel was nice. The visuals are great, the music is catchy and oppresively creepy, and there's some decent english voice acting, even. I didn't expect this visual novel to look so good and read so good for the price. The prologue wastes no time in showing you what the story is going to be about, and I like that. No useless meandering with the daily life of the character or anything as boring. The story is also much more interesting than what the store page leds you to believe, but it's a very, very small spoiler that you get to see about 40 minutes into the story, so I'll mark it just in case: [spoiler]The main girl is actually the "villain" of the story, and she's a little messed up in the head.[/spoiler] I really did not expect this, and it makes the story way creepier than I initially thought. I really recommend giving this visual novel a try.

  "When one person is cursed, two graves are dug." This VN strongly reminded me of the anime Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl). That's what initially drew me to buy it. I'm glad that it turned into its own thing and I really liked how the story progressed to differentiate itself and provide its own unique experience. The storytelling is quite good in the sense that there are enough twists to keep me guessing on what will happen next. I would consider only a very small portion of the story to have been predictable -- about 10%. I was a little sad that the VN was light on choices and leaned more towards being a Kinetic VN BUT the story is engaging and twisted enough to hold my attention. The illustrations are top-notch and rank highly among other VNs I've played. I especially like the main character's home aesthetic which I consider leagues above her daily look. The developers/writers use higher quality illustrations to great effect to highlight turning points in the story as the tension ramps up. It was a very nice touch combined with the next great thing about this VN -- the OST. The OST is something that 100% focused my attention to truly important events in the story. I got goosebumps during the HELL ending thanks to the creepy music! There is a slight distortion in the music once things take a turn for the worse and it's very eerie AND really fits all the suspenseful situations. The masterful composition... and subsequent distortion of each track really reminded me of Transistor and that's what made me really fall in love with this VN. It's the perfect kind of creepy and twisted title for Thriller/Atmospheric genre fans and will definitely appeal to Jigoku Shoujo fans as well. Excellent work and thank you so much RIVER CROW STUDIO!

  It is fine(?) I suppose. Reviewing visual novels without spoilering anything is a daunting task. As such I'll keep this review short and concise, probably lacking in the subject matter department, but alas I would much rather avoid any spoilers. To get uninteresting things out of the way, from technical side I never had any difficulties. Art and music are good. I'm not a particular fan of the style chose by the authors, but overall execution seems to be on a very high level. Overall the story is acceptable when compared to my expectations. It might even be reasonably decent all in all. Why not good? Primary issue is story biting off more than it can chew. Story tries to get a mystery route, yet it never gets on the level of the Raging Loop/Higurashi/Umineko and even lesser known titles like the Sekimeiya: Spun Glass. Every mystery is resolved in the span of 15 minute reading, and quite frankly it never was actually not obvious for me, unlike every other VN listed above. It tries to talk about characters and their inner problems. Yet it is too short. While the main character gets enough exposure, other characters are not talked about enough. Their issues are obvious and their path to the end of the character arc is clear, even if it contains a few stops, they never veer off for more than a minute. Why thumbs up? Well it is still a decent read, as long as you do not have any prior experience.

  if you like bad bird jokes, this game is for you, caww. ok, on a serious note now. i should probably blame myself, but i expected a different narrative, filled with interesting schemes, police vs smartass perp mindgames etc. i guess i have this "death note syndrome", always expecting stuff like that to be in VN that kinda hints you at that, especially considering the prologue. but no, this VN is not that. i'll go as spoiler free as possible, but it's a slow paced story about several people with some serious mental issues involved in bizzare and criminal activities, told from their perspective. unfortunately, while it is very interesting to see things from a perspective of someone who has such mental issues and actually act on them with determination that most normal people don't ever have, the narrative seems weak. there wasn't a time when i'd be rubbing my hands with anticipation of what happens next. more often than not, actions of the cast also made little sense, their plan seems so weak that you'd think even greenhorned detective would catch them in a second, but they never get caught and it never exaplained how they never get caught, considering the stuff they had to do midstory, which in turn made be believe less and less in the story that i am being told. also i don't know, maybe i just have too much experience with plot twists like these, but it was nothing i didn't predict. the last bit may have not occured to me as i thought it would, but still pretty close all in all, if you want just to relax and read a story - this VN will do that for you. but if you want to get excited, feel the thrill or horror - there's nothing to get excited over. i got excited in the prologue, but going further and further in the story that excitement been gradually wearing off.

  I really loved CORPSE FACTORY. Without all the times I went AFK with the game open, it took me about 8~ hours to complete. This visual novel leans more towards a kinetic novel due to how few choices there are. The character art is beautiful, and the background art seems to use a bit of 3D or something? - but it worked well with the character art. I also enjoyed the voice acting when I had it on, it ended up being much better than I expected. The soundtrack was very fitting for the scenes as well. I really enjoyed the writing in this VN, it wasn't a very predictable horror/thriller, and the way that the mental illnesses were written was well done. I know that mental illness is a weird thing to specify, but it is front and foremost and I just appreciated the way it was written/progressed throughout the story. I know some other reviewers felt like the story was slow but I personally enjoyed the pacing, there was not really filler and the story was pretty consistently progressing in one way or the other. On the other hand, I do think the story could've been a little longer and gone into more detail for some things. I'll also make a shoutout to the UI for this game, I really appreciated the hotkeys being shown next to the menu options. Simple and effective. You can also use scroll wheel to progress the text, which I prefer to use compared to enter or clicking. If I had to make a suggestion, to have the text either not progress forward, or go backwards (if possible) when you scroll up (it progresses forward if you scroll down OR up.) Sometimes I accidentally scrolled through two dialogues and kept having to go back to the log. Overall, CORPSE FACTORY was completely worth my time and money. It was a great game all around and I got what I wanted: a twisted, psychological thriller.

  Painfully edgy, with no payoff to make up for it. It definitely did some things right, but the conclusion is totally unsatisfying. It NEEDS a conclusive sequel in order to be worth playing.
