I played this game in beta, on release, and to about 4 months after release It was very good in the beta, we gave lots of feedback, spoke about the issues, etc The devs listened to none of it. They then lied to us repeatedly. Then had the gall to fire the community manager who was actually communicating with the people and replace it with one of the previously mentioned incompetent devs. The most suggested thing during the beta was matchmaking. Players who were level 50 could meet new players when they got out of rookie mode. On release this was not fixed, 3 months into release this was not fixed, by the time I quit the game there were so little players (about 200 a day from the original 12,000 on release) that matchmaking was basically impossible to fix. Balancing suggestions were ignored and they buffed the things which were asked to be nerfed. This led to a downwards spiral of all the games being flooded with one class (the phantom), and the ranked gamemode dying. They added new mechanics such as rage which were not in the beta which vastly made classes (such as phantom) overly powerful while keeping classes which were weaker (such as marauder) in the dust. Suggestions saying to fix bugs in beta were given. On release multiple of those same bugs existed. These include things such as daily quests being impossible to complete and various issues with optimization especially with the smoke ability Suggestions regarding monetization, ignored. Before release they gave out a 60 dollar pack which contents were exclusive. They repeatedly promised us that it would be shut off after release. Release came and the pack was not shut off, they kept it open until a month after release. During that first month another three 60 dollar dlc packs were released. During this time they made no changes to balance, didn't fix various bugs, etc All a slap in the face to us as the game in that first month went from 12,000 players on release to a mere 2,000. People cried out for the devs to stop this awful monetization strategy, they listened but also didn't. You see instead of making it just straight up money to buy you needed to buy gems to then buy the packs, which we got another 4 of all worth around 25-35 dollars. The shareholders of this game are the Guillemot family of Ubisoft. The same family which repeatedly have screwed over game studios by making them change their games into cash grab pump and dumps via dlc, skins, and other content. Rattle, a fellow player during this time made a video explaining the problems faced during the time which explains it well. Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMRGRhqidAk This review doesn't mention everything awful that occurred here (examples including them firing community managers every 6 months or so) but there is more to explore if you were to go to the discord and ask the right people. Do not play this game, do not support these people. As a rule for all my steam reviews I do this so finally, a haiku: A beauty now dead Great concept poorly complete Greed corrupted this one -bluedragonny

the game has unfortunately become a source of much turmoil within both the steam and discord chat boards. the core idea and the art in this game is amazing. it had upwards of 25k at launch. it definitely got a lot of people's attention and for good reason. it was able to capture the fantasy of dragon airborne combat like no other game had done before it. As time went on and they continued to refine the game they made some experience altering choices that changed the course of player engagement resulting in the game's average engagement being somewhere around 300-400 players. they limited playtime for ranked, would remove game modes, they cant decide whether or not to allow players to choose what few game modes they have still enabled and keep going back and forth between "you can pick" and "random mode chosen for you" they made one of the classes pay to play. they charge upwards of 80 bucks for a 3 skin pack and call it "DLC" instead of making match making skill based they simply chose to go into the game and disable the ability for players to view each other's levels in matches. they gave one class the god like ability to be BOTH invisible, intangible, and a near one shot killer if you apply a lot of damage to that class. which makes you wonder how you're supposed to counter that mechanically within the confines and tools given within the game. especially when the full opposition all goes that one class. (Just run hide and pray you and your team aren't seen while they run down the clock) they removed wall collision death for some reason making the fun (but delightfully tricky to aim) "force push" ability almost useless. they keep giving us silver coins for completing daily missions but there's barely anything to use silver coins on in game. when they noticed that the majority of the community were sitting on hundreds of thousands of unused saved up silver coins (because as gamers, we love to complete our daily missions, challenges, and objectives) Instead of actually giving us stuff to buy in store with it (aka increasing the selection of non-gem based options in the store) they charged hundreds of thousands for single dragon skin purchases. No other options. Just a fast way to drain people's money to solve that problem instead of making an actual variety of items you can purchase with the in game currency they put one or two items for insane amounts of silver to quickly drain your account. for the silver coin store they've still not included much other than a sword a helmet and some quotes. yes. quoted text that's only viewable if you make it top three at the end of a match or if someone views your in game profile you cant really customize your rider. there's barely any drops. half the armor and swords are indistinguishable from each other unless youre REALLY scrutinizing the minor details. "this sword is curved near the handle slightly while that sword is completely straight" the capes look the same save for a fork tailed end or a clean cut tail. it's all the same fabric and material. if you want to play to collect dragon eggs that would be cool but they dont really drop much. you can't get duplicates either so if you wanna choose between collecting all the eggs to have in your nest and view or riding the dragon into battle that's that. you'll never see that egg in the cool nest area again. or get to see that cute baby dragon animation loop. they say you'll get random dragon eggs when leveling up but it's untrue. you get one of two dragons like everyone else. we all got the same skins. and at level 60 (if i recall correctly) you get whatever in that PRE determined handful of skins you havent gotten already. there's no randomness to it. we all got the same things. there's already been dev confirmed on video proof of hackers using health regeneration. no known fix on that yet but it's slowly becoming more and more prevalent within the already unbalanced and small community They recently had an art competition and gave the winners 300 gems. that's like 3 bucks. not getting much other than a tag line there. the leveling system in ranked acts so that you move up a milameter on the progression bar after winning 3 matches in a row but if you lose a single match you lose a whole level. I enjoy a good grind but this is unreasonable. It's a weird spiral and things seemed to be great at the beginning but they keep making changes that make it harder to do anything with the game. they've almost entirely stripped the game of all player choice, customization, and progression. what's left is being put behind pay-walls.

I write this review with a heavy heart but I believe people should read this before playing: Century: Age of Ashes is a unique game centered around PvP aerial dogfights on dragons with 3 classes that all slightly but noticeably vary in play style. The game has a lot of potential and is amazingly fun with friends/ a party. But having played from launch and participated in the events with a top 100 placing, over time I have begun to notice a lot of minor and major problems plaguing this otherwise very interesting game. From horrid matchmaking where new players get matched against the top players, a store centered around overpriced reskins and recolours, the classes being unbalanced, game modes being removed for no particular reason, a band- aid approach to fixing the game from the developer, tone deaf towards the community, rewards being underwhelming for the time invested, leveling being sluggish to the point of being annoying (as the developers had not added rewards past a certain level) and many other minor gripes... I had a lot of fun with this game but I wouldn't currently recommend it to anyone. If you play this game, don't buy anything. Money only gets you overpriced cosmetics. Play it for the fun experience and then either drop or continue with it but don't support Paywing any further, until they fix their major issues.

There is not much about Century: Age of the ashes that hasn't already been said. Shortly; The game is a perfect example of F2P gone wrong, having lost over 90% of it's player base in the span of 7 months. Bells should have been sound that certain decisions made were the wrong ones to take. Starting with the pre-order packs that were marketed as ''exclusive'' at a premium price, players including myself felt let down knowing their efforts were shamelessly blown away as soon as these items got available. As of first game modes were changed from a standard to a rotation, to the outcry of many players as they couldn't play their favourite game mode. Moving on, the game had a standard way of unlocking in-game cosmetics. IGC (In game currency) Or PGC (Premium game currency) And lets not forget about the season pass, though I find that more expectable This, shared with the games additional cosmetic offerings as seen above, caused a strike yet again by the community as this time certain items were locked to buying a premium package that weren't offered in the games cosmetic store, unlike the pre-order packs. Things only got worse, as eventually a 4th class was added, with additional skills for premium currency that quickly took the game out of balance, AGAIN to the communities displeasure. All this and more that I won't include due to this being long enough, caused the game to plummet. With gamers eventually stepping to something else, leaving a small community behind. I still believe in this game. I adore the passion the devs have. But I really, really hope to see more positive changes, taken from the community. Balance the game, go a tad easier on cosmetics and this game will prosper.

I was one of this games founders, and enjoyed the hell of out it's gameplay and really wished to support it's development and progress. Only to regret it literally a week later as it became more, and more predatory. By this point, it's a shadow of what it once was. The dev's never communicate, they make it very clear that they have no idea how to run, develop, or manage a game beyond a cash shop. And push out only blatant cash-grabs to milk what they can out of whales while doing absolutely nothing to fix anything. They have problems with a game mode? They remove the game mode. Have problems with things being unbalanced in the store? Remove all FTP currency. Having problems with ranked? make rank able to be played only in 1 to 2 hour windows at bad playtimes for most people with a life. Having problems with matchmaking? Were working on it! (Almost six months later, no improvement) The game literally exists, at this point, to get your $$$ and is a glorified mobile game trying to play itself off as a PC game. Stay away, don't bother, because any amount you spend will be wasted when the game meets it's inevitable demise when they finally run out of the last 250 players keeping them afloat. Nor do they listen to feedback, they ask for it, but promptly ignore everything the players say. They have also betrayed their player base multiple times - they deserve no trust, and no support. Do. Not. Touch. Century.

I was one of the lucky people to playtest this game as soon as they allowed it. And continued to do so until it met full launch. It was really really fun! BUT, now, after getting rid of level unlocks, constantly increasing prices in store, going back on exclusives AFTER people already bought the rather expensive packs to support the intial launch.... and the new game pass that just is more money grabbing.... Including the absolute refusal to actually fix game breaking issues (the phantom rage- i main phantom mind you, and it's broken as heLL) as well as balancing issues, bugs, and overall ignoring important feedback they claim they care so so much about... I CANT RECOMMEND THIS GAME AT ALL. The devs have shown they're just being greedy and only care for money. Time and time again. The new class is locked by pay wall. 90% of the dragons are locked behind actual cash paywalls. You can't earn gems in any meaningful way anymore. You don't earn dragon eggs anymore. TLDR is anything you want, WILL, be locked behind actual cash paywall. In game coins don't even get earned nearly enough to compensate. There's no more weekly missions. Leveling has become pointless. Everything is paywalled. It's incredibly sad to see a game go from a roaring and supporting fanbase, to being blatantly driven away by continued slaps to the face. Hardly anyone plays anymore. Game mechanics are still fun, but any meaningful progression has been utterly destroyed and they have NO plans on going back to the old systems that worked. There's other games out there folks that aren't greedy. I hope one day this one changes back to the truly unique game experience and actually free gameplay.

Update, 15th of April It’s been two weeks since I published my review, and I was holding out hope for the betterment of the game. However, due to the lack of matchmaking and new content, I’ve decided to refrain from playing the game on a daily basis. Grinding daily missions and meaningless events in the exchange for no worthwhile rewards has made the game into a chore. Some of the things that pushed me over the edge are the following: - The continued absence of matchmaking. - Old cosmetics being tossed into bundles and sold for real-life currency, ranging from €11.99 to €59.99, whereas they previously could be purchased for in-game currency. This is nothing more than an insulting cash grab. - The newest event, that I hesitate to call an event, because it requires you to just play one vanilla game mode and do nothing else; I got daily goals done in two rounds, and the grand prize at the end of it is premium currency that’s not even enough for one legendary dragon skin. Oh and since the devs have so graciously given out more premium currency to spend, they have also bumped the prices of these skins, which is an incredibly scummy move. - Now there are two play buttons on the main menu, one for the event and one for quick play. The event button lets you play Spoils of War, and the quick play button lets you play… also Spoils of War. This was a great opportunity to divide the game mode queues again, at least for a bit, and help curb the problem of people leaving matches because they get put in the wrong game mode. I’m pretty sure most players would prefer to wait a little longer for their match, rather than having to slog through an unwanted round or resorting to leaving altogether. I’ll keep an eye on the further development of the game, but I’ll believe all the promises when I see them actually implemented. - - - Initial review, 30th of March It pains me to write this, but I’m doing it because I care a great deal about the game and I want to voice my concerns to the developers at Playwing. I’ll be quick to update the review once they have addressed these issues. To anyone who considers getting into this game, please wait until there is actual matchmaking. In its current state, new players often get matched with very experienced players, causing the matches to be severely unbalanced. The game has a pretty steep learning curve, and you will likely need time to get comfortable with it before joining matches with more experienced players. Now to the meat of the matter. Century: Age of Ashes is unlike anything I’ve played before. I was a bit worried it would be too fast paced for me, but it’s really intuitive and feels great to maneuver once you’ve gotten used to the controls. The gameplay is incredibly solid and the game modes are distinct and deliver high octane action. There are some gameplay aspects that could use some tweaking, such as class abilities, but I’m sure that’s something that’s being worked on. It seems a bit unoptimized, and doesn’t run all that well on my computer, but it shouldn’t be a problem if you’ve got a decent machine. However, it’s not the gameplay that’s the problem. The most glaring issue is the matchmaking. Since the game launched in early December, I’ve played a lot and my skill level falls somewhere in the middle of the two polar opposites that I encounter pretty much every match; new players and top players. It’s almost impossible to find really good matches for mid-tier players, as it’s often either us stomping the new players or getting stomped by the top players. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be a new player at this point in time, and it genuinely frustrates me that the lack of matchmaking is scaring off players who just want to get into the game. Since there’s no proper matchmaking, it also doesn’t differentiate between team stacks, and solo players are often pitted against stacks of top players, making it very difficult to have an even game. It’s obvious that this is the product of dwindling player numbers, and vice versa; a vicious cycle of new players joining and immediately being discouraged by the veterans, keeping the active player number depressingly low. Due to the small number of daily players, different game modes have been thrown into the same queue, concentrating the players into fewer queues, to keep match finding relatively fast. If you have a daily mission that is dependent on playing a specific game mode, you might then be forced to play the wrong game mode, sometimes several times in a row, which is a waste of time if you are busy that day. I will continue to do my daily missions and patiently give Playwing some more time to figure out the matchmaking. Although, my patience is beginning to wane after these four months, and I’m getting pretty tired of having to schedule my day around when I’m most likely to get decent matches. I’m hoping it will be fixed sooner rather than later, so that the whole community will get the same opportunity to enjoy the game.

I'm going to be extremely critical of this game and the developers behind it because I played the Beta for nearly 60 hours and was eagerly awaiting this game's launch, and have since completely lost interest because of some glaring problems with Playwing. Like I said before, I played this game as much as I could during the beta and I loved it. To give credit where it's due, the core gameplay of Century is extremely compelling. The classes all feel great to play, the mobility is absolutely a high point of this game, and combat feels punchy and satisfying. I was eagerly awaiting this game's launch like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. The game launched and wasted no time in ruining the experience for me. Constant server disconnects plagued the game at launch. Disconnects from matches which would negatively effect win/loss ratio, disconnects from the shop and menus, disconnects from the damn "Press a key to start" screen. The game was literally unplayable. Well, it seems to have been fixed for some players but here's the bad news. The game is STILL unplayable for many of us. To this day, I still deal with these constant disconnects that prevent me from even playing. I've tried a variety of troubleshooting steps, nothing has helped. If anything, as new patches came out, it actually got worse. My network isn't amazing, but it is far above the min requirement for the game, so this is completely unacceptable. Here's where it gets worse, Playwing has pretty much ZERO in the way of customer support and bug reporting. They run their reporting system primarily through discord, and it's a chaotic, disorganized mess where the bugs get buried and likely missed. This is appalling. Furthermore, the developers will not acknowledge the bugs or give any kind of indication as to whether or not they're being worked on. No status updates. Nothing. The discord is moderated terribly, with blatant favoritism towards top performing players. It's a joke. Playwing has recently added an extremely barebones, and seemingly non-functional bug report system through a site, but there's no email receipt that the issues have been received and they do not reply to these issues at all. There is NO customer support. Furthermore, the monetization in this game is purely terrible. It's extremely aggressive and leans heavily into FOMO to get people to spend as much money as it takes not to miss out on this exclusive content that they'll be reminded of constantly via the game's bestiary. It's a completionist's/collector's nightmare. I'm pro monetizing via customization, battle passes, shop skins, etc - but the way Playwing has been doing this has indicated that they don't seem to know what they're doing and don't seem capable of learning from a constant barrage of rookie mistakes. They keep pissing the community off and rather than making an active effort to improve, they just apologize and repeat the same mistake time and time again. There's a ton of other shady practices, like allegedly letting the top leaderboard players from the beta continue to play and practice the game after beta ended for the sake of "player feedback". Balancing your game around the top players is usually fine, but not like this. If they needed more gameplay or class balancing feedback, they SHOULD'VE organized multiple public playtests or playtests that specifically target different player cohorts. I don't want this game to fail and the studio to potentially face layoffs. Working in the games industry myself, studios shuttering or mass layoffs are everyone's nightmare. But I don't have high hopes for the longevity of this game. The game performed okay in terms of user stats at launch, but has been seeing a sharp decline since. This is a normal trend, launch weekend is typically the strongest for a game. That being said, the actual trend line is not normal. It's concerning. Keep in mind this game is still brand spanking new. Many players report that the matchmaking is straight up broken, but I wouldn't even know since I can't play the damn game since I get disconnected before even getting into a match. The way Playwing continues making the same mistakes, completely lacks any semblance of customer service/support, and just generally half-asses anything community related is ridiculous and something the studio should be ashamed of. They need fulltime, dedicated CMs and a pipeline for communication that allows players to actually feel as if they're being heard and acknowledged. AT LEAST for bugs and account issues, if not for everything else. Don't get me wrong, running LiveOps on a live service game like this is hard BUT they're actively scaring players away. There's a lot of attention focused on events and whatnot to drive player retention, but even still their retention doesn't look too good from a high level because of a host of problems scaring the player base away. I'd like for them to turn this around, but I do not have high hopes. Can't recommend the game at this time, and unless they re-approach how to handle pretty much all communication with their players, I may never be able to recommend this game despite some amazing and fun gameplay.

VENT Ah, Century - the game I had longed for for an ENTIRE YEAR together with one of my closest friends. When we first found the website and saw the first trailer, our minds were completely blown. The game was original, the different classes were noticeably different from each other, and the graphics looked to be heavenly. Plus, the game would be free - so we were really, really excited. However, now that the game is out (and has been for a while now) - I can only really say that my impression of the game now, is a polar opposite impression of the game than the impression I had of it when it was in early development. I can safely say that probably the entire community has the same opinion.. Well, if there even IS a loyal community that's left, lol. I dunno, sure doesn't seem like it though. I bet you're wondering what happened. When the game came out, the community was thrilled. The game was being praised for not being P2W, and the developers seemed to respond to their community well. The playerbase was at an all-time high - peaking at about 12k players. At about the same time, there were news about an event coming out nearly instantly after release. Everyone was obviously excited for it - and so was I. However, when the event launched, it was an utter mess. There were items made exclusively for the event (that were advertised in the event art and everything), but they weren't awarded through gameplay. Instead, a bunch of items compatible with only ONE class was awarded instead (and I can't say they were relatively pretty to be honest). I found it to be completely ridiculous. First, why not wait to have an event until you have cosmetics made for all classes? There were only three classes at launch, so it wouldn't even have been much extra work. Second, we expected to have cool dragons to work for through gameplay (that we had seen BEFORE the event launched, and expected to be the cosmetics we would be working for), but instead we got a bunch of random items thrown at us that were never shown anywhere before the event launched. Those dragons that were actually advertised in the event art? They were crazy expensive - only available to buy with gems (a currency in the game that is not awarded through gameplay, but instead awarded for every 5 levels you go up). It probably doesn't sound that bad, right? You work for the gems through levelling up, it makes sense. Well, no. Not in this case; Keep in mind that at the time, you ONLY got 250 gems for every 5 levels (might've even been 150, I can't remember) - and the exp needed to level up, kept raising each time to ridiculous numbers. The dragons cost 2000 gems EACH. There were only three event dragons, but the only way to get them all would be to either pay the frick up and buy gems with real money, or sit inside 24/7, completely ignore the fact that you have a life and grind the heck out of every round to get those sweet, sweet gems. Also, it's important to mention that at the time, the classes were ridiculously imbalanced when it came to different abilities, health and strength of each class - so there were a lot of opinions surrounding that too. As expected, the community responded. Not with any hate, but with constructive criticism. We suggested that the devs would wait to make more cosmetics for each class next time, and that they needed to lower the prices of their cosmetics in general. We really thought they would listen, but lol no we sure jinxed it. Everything went downhill from there. The game pretty much became P2W very quickly. Sure, you can play the game for completely free - but considering cosmetics (that are literally PURELY for aesthetics) are the ONLY thing you're working for, not any stat boosts or anything, I'd say it counts as P2W. There have also been many events since then - and none of them were really that great in any aspects. To be honest I got so pissed at the developers and the game in general that I left for about 4 months (I just recently returned and tried to give the game another chance) - so I'm only basing it on the opinions of the community and info from the game's wiki. Right now, the game has gotten a Fortnite-ish vibe to it - with seasons and exclusive passes?? Whatever it is, it doesn't sit right with me. Proves that the developers are only in it for the money now. They really shouldn't have made the game free, because now they're throwing in DLCs worth nearly 300 dollars altogether because they're lacking money. It's okay for developers to make DLCs - there's literally nothing wrong with it. However, there was a case of them lying to the community when they added three DLCs that were only supposed to be available a few days after launch - kinda like a veteran player exclusive pack. For some reason though, they felt the need to let the DLCs be available a few more weeks without telling anyone. It doesn't sound that bad, does it? Well me, and I bet A LOT of other players, were panicking to buy it in time, and some would've probably preferred to buy the DLC a bit later if they knew that it was indeed gonna be available for longer. I think that was the first time Playwing lost the trust of their community - but it definitely wasn't going to be the last time. Right now, the developers are like complete robots. They're unresponsive, they're being accused of firing community managers whom are the only ones that actually COMMUNICATE with the players, they've deleted the Discord feedback channel (I certainly couldn't find MY feedback message anywhere, lmao), they upload reskinned item from exclusive DLC packs and put them as event prizes, they added a ridiculous "rage mode" (aka overpowered mode) that wasn't present in the beta and was only added right before launch without consulting with the community or anything, aaand they're slowly losing the trust of their entire community. FYI; in the first few weeks after launch, the player count dropped by 93%. I've NEVER seen a game perform so badly. Even games that are considered "dead", currently perform better than Century. Century is capped at a measly 150 players playing at a time, and that makes the matchmaking long and horrendous. Since I've tried to play a bit recently, I've only found myself getting through 10 rounds max in the span of 2-3 hours. That's AWFUL. I've spent 60 bucks on the game, and oh how I wish I could get my money back right now. I don't think I'll return to the game at all now. The community is desperate and have started to aggressively swear at the devs (which honestly, I don't blame them for) - but are only met with robotic responses like "Please don't say that. Most of the devs don't even speak English." like.. UHM.. HELLO LMAO???!! You have an entire loyal community that are DESPERATE to make this game work. They give you constructive criticism, and when you completely shut it out, they know that the only way you're going to respond to them is if they really push for it. Yet, when they do that, you only bother responding to their bad manners and not their CC. I'm so fricking done with these people. It's really sad. Honestly, it's the best dragon game I've ever seen. The lore is great, the designs are great and the overall game is a genius idea. It's just sad to see that it has gone in the hands of bad, lazy developers that won't let you put custom armor on your legendary dragons because they're "too cool" for it. What they REALLY mean is; "we're too lazy to make all the armor fit the models of the legendary dragons, so if you wanna equip armor, you have to unequip your legendary dragon". It's ridiculous. All of it is. The game is destined to become dead, lol. The only people really topping the game's leaderboard right now are twitch streamers that play games all day, every day. If you wanna play the game, sure, it's free, go for it - just DO NOT spend ANY MONEY on the game, I beg you. I wrote this at 4am, no regrets. I knew I had something to let out. -Love, a very disappointed player. :D

I desperately want to love this game, but whoever coded their matchmaking must have been drunk. New players getting matched against the top of the leaderboard? What a fucking joke. Pass on this unless matchmaking gets fixed.
