  This game is the most immersive business game, that isn't text based, I have ever played in my life. The stock market is so realistic, it's scary. When you need to have another screen on with Investopedia up for reference, you know it's real. There is another, and much better, version of the game call Capitalism Lab that adds in subsidiaries, city economics, and politics via DLC's. Capitalism Lab has another DLC comming out about software/technology/e-commerce companies. The game also has support for player-made mods. 11/10 game. If you are not interested in business and learning more about it, this game is most definitly not for you. If you are, and have been looking for a very immersive experience to simulate real life to a tee, you have finally struck gold.

  This game will teach you the fundamentals of economics from supply chains to soil fertility to boom-bust cycles to the stock market and P/E ratio. This is the only game I can safely say to anyone "you will learn something that applies to the real world". I have played over 200 hours, won many games at the highest 200%+ difficulty, and I still want to play more. The game taps into some strategic thinking of understanding how money flows. At the highest difficulty, you are a tiny tiny fish in a very big ocean, and you will have almost no chance to survive with disasters continuously wiping out your piddly little businesses, so you'll have to find other ways to make money. And guess what? The real world is also full of examples of businesses that wipe out the little guys, so it's really not much different. If you have any inclination of starting your own business, this game is a must-have. Master it first. The playing field consists of several "status" spreadsheet screens, and 2 major playing screens which are: - a stock market trading screen and - a world map with individual city maps (there are 4 major cities or so). In the city map, there are tiles for farmland (various soil quality and climates apply), resource gathering from mines, forests, etc., and city block buildings for factories, supermarkets, apartments, research, and your personal mansions and company headquarters. Each factory, supermarket and research lab will have an internal layout for supply chain and manufacturing layout which you customize for efficiency, labeling, and branding. Radio, Newspaper and Television stations can be leveraged for advertising. The cities cycle between recession and booming. Cost of shipping from the airport is taken into account (though it's usually not a major consideration). Market share, branding, demand, advertising, supply pricing, cooperating with other players (or not) are all factors, along with research and employee training. Prime business location in a city affects demand, so paying more for higher priced real-estate can result in better sales. Sound complex? Yes it is. I find it challenging to give the game a fair review as so much is involved (and I'd rather play it than review it). Unfortunately, you'll have only scratched the surface after playing for 2 hours, but hopefully by then you'll have an idea if this game is for you. I recommend trying it. P.S.   Edit: While this game is phenomenal, I would highly recommend you look up Capitalism Lab, the modern incarnation of this game from the same developer. It is more expensive to buy the game and its expansions, but it brings it into the 21st century - both literally and figuratively with the Digital Age DLC. I'm not sure why the dev chooses not to put Capitalism Lab on Steam, but his website is easy enough to use. Again, great game, just recommend the 2020 version even more. Original: I am a wealthy tobacco businessman, selling fine cigars and cigarettes across the globe. Upon finally expanding into the Hong Kong market, I discovered a population so excited to risk cancer and lung damage that I opened an entirely new factory just for the city. The smokers of Hong Kong, rejoicing, smoked so much tobacco that the factory could only supply a single convenience store. 7/11 would smoke again Seriously though like many others I played this for countless hours as a youngster and the game is absolutely as engaging and addictive as an adult.

  This game opens a world of understanding about business, economics, finance, and ALL that money mumbo-jumbo. This game is enjoyable and educational. If you want to understand how real marketplaces interact play this. I wish Steam had the farrrr better version of this game: "Capitalism Lab." It took me awhile to get it but it is totally worth it (I feel like I got a "consumer surplus," i.e. I think I got a good deal! The website for "Capitalism Lab" is is https://www.capitalismlab.com/ . The graphics, UI, and mechanics are outdated but the sheer amount of high quality and replayable CONTENT Holy $***. There is not any other enjoyable software with more educational content and critical thinking for business situations existing in Feb 2020. It's even been used in UK and USA for college business/economics class. Taking accounting, business, and economics classes myself in college this semester, it has become a great way to procrastinate while learning (they have real balance sheets, income statements, stock analysis, TONS of graphs, and so much more)! However, sometimes after a lot of studying I can't play it because it's exactly the stuff I just studied. Despite very outdated graphics, this game (esp multiplayer) and "Capitalism Lab" with/without DLC's I cannot recommend these games more highly if you want to learn/practice nitty gritty details of business in a highly realistic and reactive virtual economy.

  YES! It is finally on steam. I have been playing this game (via CD) since I was in school. It is by far my favourite game. Business Schools such as Harvard use it. Be warned, it has quite a steep learning curve but once you get into it, its addictive and extremely fun. Certianly makes you think differently.

  What would make this game better is if they move all the Capitalism Lab Mods and DLC into steam. Why must we go to a website to get these DLC when they should be provided in steam to make the process streamlined.

  If you have played this back in the early 2000's its basically the same. You already know its great. If your new take your time its a difficult learning curve but once you get it it is very rewarding. Can we get CapLab to Steam already!!!!
