The first game I'll be refunding on Steam. I'd be satisfied if it had been 10 bucks, but 35 is too much for what it is. Fairly poor graphics, the 128 official players all play the same and can barely be identified without their name next to it. Can't really tell what it is, but the gameplay itself feels strange and unsatisfying. What bothered me the most is definitely the option to set up some balls and try some shots on a practice table.

Okay, this is a tough one. PROS + Slick menu design, reminds me of other sports games + Fully licensed pro tour + Decent physics, but balls seem to decelerate kinda strangely sometimes + Controls are optimized for controllers, but work fine with M/K, too + Arenas, tables and balls look good enough + Commentators aren't too annoying, sound design is okay-ish overall. Hard shots need to have more "chunk" to them. CONS - How can you have a career mode without the possibility to make your own player? - Players move stiffly and look like they've been imported from WSC Real 2009 - Whoever thought that having a bright WHITE screen flash between shots is a good idea, should be fired. Please patch this, it's an easy fix and really annoying right now. I'm sensitive to brightness, the flashing really puts strain on my eyes. - Unskippable AI shots could become tedious after a while. At least make the fast forward thingy faster. - No fine tuning for the camera settings? - No overhead view? Come on. - No practice mode? - No challenges / trick shots? - No way to adjust gamma? - Haven't tried the multiplayer yet, I will edit my review once I've done so. SUMMARY Definitely overpriced, 15€ would be reasonable right now. I've decided against refunding it, because I do hope there'll be some fixes. If the devs won't adress the major issues, this one will be the only snooker game I've bought from them, which would be a shame, because there's definitely a need for a decent snooker sim on PC. (VP4 is okay, but its Snooker mode also has some problems.) Snooker 19 looks and plays like a glorified beta version. Sadly, there's no "meh" option. Stay away from the game right now, but check for updates. I'll keep playing it, because I really love snooker. 6/10 (There's potential for an 8/10.)

EDIT: I recently realised this is one of the top reviews for this game so I've crossed bits out that are patched :) I think it's decent, not brilliant, but still worth recommending to anyone who enjoys snooker. If you're a casual, I would wait until a few patches are out first Some points I have come across after 3 hours of playing: PROS: Nice camera angles like irl, so you can see where the ball is travelling (and know if it's going in or not) Nice looking table and balls Can see chalk marks Scoreboard UI is clean and reflects what is shown on TV Official licensing, so they have all the tournaments, arenas, players, statistics etc Can customise your player CONS: Cannot chalk your own cue? Or pick which rest you would like to use? All 128 players are in the game, but they are lifeless and have the same characteristics as each other. I want to see Trump smash balls in, or Ronnie using both hands to cue (and pick the better appropriate hand). Even the 2003 game to my memory had this feature. If they miss a ball, I want to see them react by shaking their head or slumping back to their chair. If they succeed in a tough shot, I want to see them punch the air or celebrate and look at the crowd. At the moment, they just gormlessly look at the table with the same face no matter what. AI are doing screw shots when the cue ball is on the cushion? The rest spikes morph into the table/cushions? [strike]AI when snookered have the ability to do random shots. I snookered the AI and it just aimed the white straight into the pocket? I spammed the retake button and it took 12 attempts until I just played on as it was clear they were never going to get out of it[/strike] [strike]If you have a massive lead against the AI, they do not concede .. why? We all have limited amount of time to play games, I dont want to be stuck in a useless end-of-frame because they are trying for snookers 60 points behind.[/strike] [strike]If you are aiming for a long distance ball, the "free camera" option doesnt even let you see the object ball you are aiming at. In real life you are not stuck to where you will strike the ball??[/strike] The character models need some improvement, all settings on Epic and i can see straight lines etc... its 2019 I am sure that they were rushed to bring this out, but I'm holding hope they will address some of these things

This game comes from year 2000. It's a joke for this amount of money. To be honest: it feels like the bus simulators. I'm really disappointed. Back to Virtual Pool 4.

Like everyone else has said there are clearly some issues with the game. -£29.99 is probably a little steep for most people but I think I'll definitely play 30+ hours and get my money's worth. -The graphics are good in terms of the table. The lighting is maybe a little questionable but good enough. But the character animations aren't great, they can draw you out of the game, they are a little slow and they even do things like stand in the table sometimes. -The gameplay options aren't great. I imagine, unless you're really good at it, that the trophies in career mode would take a while to collect. But there's no create a player option and this is a little frustrating. However apart from this, online and exhibition matches there's not a lot else to do. It definitely needs a practice mode, a trickshot mode, maybe a more in depth career mode with the ability to practice and even play non-professional fictional characters in clubs and play your way up. -The flash of white between shots isn't as bad in my opinion as some people make out. It's a little bright, it's a little annoying once someone points them out. But they're transitional. They mean you're not watching a clunky character animation of someone walking around the table. They could be done but in a different colour and maybe with a logo or something to make it less glaring. But I understand why they're there. -There's RB and LB logos on the menu without playing with a controller. I always find this a little lazy on the developer's part. I don't expect to see this when using a mouse and keyboard. I've also seen A and B buttons elsewhere in the game. The controls (I'm using mouse and keyboard), I was a little wary of. I played a lot of Snooker Nation Championship which has a pull back and push the mouse system to cue, which I love. However this is a lot more like other snooker or pool games, in that you set power bars. This is actually done really well. Not clunky or hard to use like other games have been in the past, but an enjoyable way of doing it that feels relatively natural. -Games can be long and tedious, especially when the AI is taking a turn. There's no option to skip, but there's just a way to slightly speed up the AI shots. Not terribly slow, but can get a little tedious after a long play session. -Sound isn't too bad, commentary is better than I had anticipated but still not great (but I don't think many games have good commentary). I do think, like other people, that balls need more of a clunk and at times sound too muffled, especially when sunk. - I think the camera is quite good as they're going for a television feel, but I could definitely see some people wanting an overhead view. -The characters themselves aren't terrible actually. There is some likeness (okay, Selby looks a little like Eden Hazard retired from football to play snooker) but you aren't playing the game to look at the characters and you don't notice them a lot of the time when you're playing. Again, I think this is understandable. Small studio, don't have face scanning, even FIfa characters looked bad once, this will just take a few years to perfect (provided there's a yearly release). But for the moment, they're good enough. -Something I haven't seen anyone mention is the Steam Workshop. Even if a mode was added for trickshots or create a trickshot that could be shared on the Steam workshop, I think this could be a really successful mode. You'd only be moving balls around the table and trying tricks. Similar to what television studios do between games with ex-professionals. The lack of anything like this is a little disappointing, but given this is a multi console release this isn't likely. Overall - I think the game was maybe rushed to coincide with the Crucible this year but it's definitely a good start. Are the bugs going to be ironed out, the developers have implied yes. Are the modes going to be added that we want? I don't see it personally. The fact it's called Snooker 19 makes me feel there'll be a Snooker 20 and these features would be a big selling point for next years game. For that reason if you aren't going to get 30, 40, 50+ hours out of it, then there's a not a lot of need to get this years version unless these extra features are added. And if they are going to be added, it's more like an Early Access game until then with more of a bare bones feel. It's still a fun game and I'll enjoy a lot of time in it throughout the year, particularly when I'm into certain tournaments on the television. But this is definitely one for Snooker fans. And more casual snooker video game players should maybe wait for a sale, until more features are added or for next years iteration.

It's an unfinished game. The physics are great and the gameplay is faithful to playing in real life but the visuals are absolutely shocking. This is early day's PS3 graphics and it's such a shame. I wanted it to be so much more than it is. I had to request a refund in the end, it's just not worth £29.99.

I'm an avid snooker fan and player, and absolutely loved World Snooker Championship 2007 for the Xbox, you read that right 2007, 12 years old. I mention it because it's about 1000000x better than this absolute load of rubbish. The aiming guide is almost useless, you have no guide towards where the cue balls going, so you're unable to judge pace without excessively playing, but let me assure you, you'll not get 2 hours of game time out of this. The physics of the game are completely unnatural, anybody who has ever seen snooker, even just a glimpse on the TV, would tell you how false these physics are. The AI are ridiculously difficult, they clear up first time every time, and take on any pot that is physically possible (and pot it), therefore to actually win, you must first make it so that a pot is physically not on, and clear up in 1 visit, good luck with that. This would actually be laughable had the game been for say £5 or something, but £30 honestly should be criminal, it's not even just a poor game, I'd go as far as saying that this is offensive to anyone who's played the sport. Good points: Pictures of the players are real life images, so they're okay, plus they use the real names Everything else is horrific Honestly, buy world snooker championship 2007, best snooker game there's been (from my experience) and it completely eclipses this shambles. What a disgrace by the publisher of this, and anyone who says otherwise has been paid

Game really needs a practice mode, and to be honest it seems a bit bizarre that it does not have this basic feature. The tutorial lasts for about a minute and then you're thrown into match play. Would really like the chance to get a hang of things before starting any competitive matches as it would make things a lot more fun and a lot less frustrating.
