ميزات SGS Halls of Montezuma

Halls of Montezuma recreates the Mexican-American war of 1846-1848. Play the USA and conquer Mexico City before Whig opposition in Congress forces a negotiated peace. As Mexico, hold desperately against the enemy’s onslaught, to gain enough time for America's internal politics to end the war.

The Halls of Montezuma game contains several scenarios, covering different periods of the Mexican-American war of 1846-1848. The war was initiated by US President Polk on the premise that the southern border of Texas should be the Rio Grande River, while Mexico claimed that the border was on the Nueces River. The Whig party and many American citizens opposed the war, and this is a decisive factor in the game. A small scenario covers the early stages of the war over the disputed territories in southern Texas and, in the West, in California and New Mexico. Another scenario deals with Scott’s famous 1847 campaign, starting with the landing at Vera Cruz till the capture of Mexico city. And, of course, a complete Grand Campaign covers the whole war.

Scenario durations last from 10 turns (for the smaller one) to 44 turns, each representing a two-weeks period between April 1846 and March 1848.

One player represents the United States of America's land and naval forces, the other has Mexico's land and Naval forces.

  • The Mexican forces are more numerous at the start of the game, but are poorly led and have lower morale. They receive only a small number of reinforcements and must hold desperately against the onslaught and superior morale of their enemy, hoping to gain enough time for America's internal politics to disrupt and eventually end the war.

  • The USA must advance and eventually conquer Mexico City before the Whig opposition to the war forces a negotiated peace. This anti-war sentiment is represented in the game and shall be carefully watched. The starting forces are small initially, but supplemented many Volunteers and further reinforced by regular Army units. And the US Navy dominates the seas, giving a sizable strategic advantage.

Be careful of the potential weakness of some quality but small units. As the USA, losing regular army units will seriously affect the anti-war sentiment at home. Watch your supply assets, as early success may easily outrun your capacities in the logistical nightmare of Mexico in the early 19th century.

The game's event and cards allow full replay ability thanks to the numerous various situations that they create on the diplomatic, military, political or economical fields.

The game is named after and in tribute of the USMC famous hymn.

Estimated Playtime: from 1h00 to many hours...

Favored Side: USA.

Hardest to Play: Mexico.

I like this game buts its has to many bugs and suffers from the plague. First theirs this bug were out of no where soviets and fins appear to duke it out in the golf of Mexico in 1846 and its happened several times. Second naval invasions wont work don't know why. Third a bug has happened were enemy unit and your units dont fight meaning both of them are stuck in a hex forever. Thankfully the save system is really good. i like this game its an interesting period as ive only seen the mexican war covered in one other game. this game can be challenging to play even on the US side. As example my first game was a completely steamroll of mexico except i couldnt naval invade causing me to lose the game. Second game my army in California got cut off from supplies and was basically destroyed. Zach army got malled fighting in Texas. Third game was as interesting as the Mexicans kept sending units to cut off supplies and Zach army was slowly being drained, But again this game ended the same way the first did BECAUSE NAVAL INVASION DO NOT WORK. every time Scott arrives i am unable to invade Veracruz.

This game is just miserable to play. Just so many really bad bugs. The game is actually fun but the horrible movement for both land and naval phases are just really bad. It is so painful to move units on transports in and out of ports especially New Orleans. River movement is just aggravating as you just quit trying and end up with half of your forces boarded on ships. The ship transports almost never allow you to load troops even though they have the capability and capacity which is maddening. There is a glitch somewhere that always has a bad weather card or something that prevents putting troops on transport ships. The movement of troops into enemy held territory is a bigger fight than the actual battle. The AI is solid for both Mexican and US players. The game can be a little confusing especially with supply rules. You end up with units out of supply and dying though you really have no idea why. If they would fix the horrible land and naval movement especially the transport of troops onto and off of ships then I would recommend. It has nothing to do with bad weather cards or any quirky little rule it is just plain bad code. When you try to load ships and if it is a bad weather card the game should tell you why just like land movement should tell you why you cannot move into an adjacent area but it doesn't. It just leaves you frustrated. The main part of the game is moving units and attacking cities. It is horrible at that just so bad. You will spend more time trying to get a unit or stack of units to attack a city or lay siege and the buggy game will not let you do that. You will see you can easily move there but the game simply wont let you do it. What makes it worse it that it will let you attack another city. No way to figure it out. Insanely buggy. Also an issue when the game recommends a card and you put it in the play pile it will not let you remove it. If you find out that the card (supply card) cannot be used and you can place it the game will not you move on to the next phase. The game sort of freezes up because it is waiting for you to use the card but it wont let you do anything. You have to back out to the main menu and reload the last automatic save and continue. Just too quirky and aggravating to recommend until after a major patch. Just really buggy. I would give it a 4 out of 10.

Won first battle against the imperialist invaders, grigno made game doesnt let me move on from the end battle screen... Some spelling errors. Good idea overall but the execution is flawed, cant recommend a game that steals victories.

I enjoyed this game and learned a little history along the way. As in reality, the Mexican Army is not a serious match against the US Army. Instead, victory becomes a race against time, as you must knock Mexico out of the war and capture Mexico City before the American people and their elected representatives force the US government to stop the invasion, questioning its legality and legitimacy. I think what surprised me the most is that this is a recurring theme in US interventions around the world and this game captures that attitude and the struggle it involves, very well. The role of the Mexican Army then is to interrupt and delay the US, hoping the will of the American people will save Mexico and prevent a collapse of the Mexican government. There are a couple of medium sized scenarios, but the most fascinating fight is the campaign, where all the different aspects of this war come together, and where you as the Commander of the US invasion, can feel the challenge of trying to quickly force a 'fait accompli' on both Mexico and the US. Overall I found the game entertaining and educational, a rare combination in gaming. Any time I learn something new, I consider that a win for me.

It's pretty good, but get it on sale, as it's a little slight compared to some of the other SGS games. The full campaign doesn't take very long and there aren't a ton of interesting decisions for either side. As the US you're basically marking time until Scott shows up and you can invade Vera Cruz and capture Mexico City. As Mexico pretty much nothing matters but protecting Mexico City until the political counter ticks up. The AI does a decent job as Mexico but as the US it will happily march its forces into the desert and let you cut them off and starve them. It's a fun look at the history but I would have liked to see some alternate history options that maybe give Mexico more of a fighting chance.

Okay I've only played this for 50 minutes but got to say I haven't really enjoyed it at all. I shall most likely refund it hence the short play time. So what do I think is wrong or not great fun with "SGS Halls of Montezuma" ? First the tutorial is really hard to understand. Surely there is someone about who has better English than the bloke doing the narration. The instruction is straight forward I have trouble understanding what he is saying.Secondly the Mexican morale is so bloody low you are never going to win. Historically yep the US soldiers had better moral but to make a game of it the Mexicans need a boost otherwise it's not going to be much of a contest and it is marginally unpleasant .Say no more.. Thirdly when a battle occurs it's mind mindbogglingly tedious and no I don't expect Total War! How many men have I lost ? Don't know ,check the card still don't know. Still got 7/8th but 7/8th of how many? To me it just doesn't seem to fit together and it certainly doesn't make me feel I want one more turn. Positive things .I think it looks nice and the music is excellent. There has not been a game from this era since the excellent"Age of Rifles" on DOS way back in the earlies." SGS Halls of Montezuma" seems pretty accurate both geographically and perhaps historically but it's not for me and it may not be for you either....

In 5 hours of playtime, I have found the game so far to be fun, easy to learn and play and at the same time seriously historical, detailed and challenging. Excellent, colorful graphics, an awesome soundtrack and manual, and a wonderful video tutorial are just icing on the cake. I'm a serious wargamer from way back and would recommend this title without hesitation.

SGS Halls of Montezuma is a good war game based on the Mexican War. You can see the similarities between this game and some of the old AGEOD games and that is a good thing. Adding historical flavor in the form of news papers and events is a nice touch which sets some historical backstory and also allows for some innovative mission-like situations (like having to take a certain territory to show progress before political opponents to the war get angry). While you can tell that this game has a small budget and only a few (one?) devs, it's an interesting enough wargame to keep your attention and is focused on a "forgotten" war that many forms of media don't cover.

I really wanted to enjoy this game as the war is intriguing. But as they say, high expectations but poor delivery can ruin the best of effort. Very disappointing. Running Windows 10 64, 16 gig ram, GTX980 video. Game being run on an M2 SSD hard drive. Drivers always updated. Note: this same company release Blocks! Richard II in an unfinished state, and promptly abandoned it, leaving it in almost an unplayable state. Read the forums of that game for additional information. PROS: - Interesting war, rarely covered in war games. - At least one developer is active in the forums for now - same pattern as Blocks!, but nothing was fixed and the game was abandoned. Cons: - Game feels choppy and is not smooth - Marginal graphics - somewhat blocky - Cumbersome card play - occasional lagginess. - Confusing UI. For example if you click on the field but not on the arrow, nothing happens. - Random lagging, sometimes severe during land combat phase. - Recurring bugs like the one with the Soviet-Finland flags (left over from Winter War). Widely reported on the forums. The game freezes. Still broken. - Minimal technical support - Come on, you seriously can't eliminate the Soviet-Finland flags??? - Not adequately playtested. Seriously, recurring freezing/lagging isn't picked up?? I am past the refund time or I would have requested a refund for this trashware. DO NOT BUY.
