  I simply cannot state how much I love this game! I'm a 60+ retiree who has spent more hours of her life on Stardew Valley than she'd like to admit (thanks a lot, Steam, for counting them!) I honestly didn't think I'd ever like anything better than Stardew, and I've tried lots of "cozy games" purported to be like it. Nothing came close, until Roots of Pacha. I LOVE THIS GAME!!! I feel like I can go anywhere and do anything, and there are so many people to interact with who have such interesting stories. I can't wait to see how they all develop. (I just completed year one.) I'm enjoying just going with the flow and figuring out how things work on my own, but at some point I'm hoping there's a wiki like Stardew has. (I know there's Discord and such, but I really like how the Stardew wiki collapses the spoilers so you don't have to see them.) Anyway, if you've played Stardew and loved it, you will love this game. I promise!!

  Finally a good competitor for Stardew! This game makes a lot of quality of life improvements to the farming sim genre that make it easy to understand with much less wandering around looking for NPCs and items. The village grows and improves as you play and it feels alive. The characters are interesting and all have interwoven relationships and backstories. There is no combat, which I personally love, as it makes the game more relaxing and you can focus on the task at hand. There’s a lot to explore and fun minigames (such as racing on mounts). One festival even has you creating your own cave paintings! You can decorate your house and have pets as well as farm animals and mounts, which you can breed to improve their stats. Takes Stardew Valley, removes the annoying parts and adds many twists that are very unique to this game. Definitely one to watch. Simple to pick up, hard to put down. A must-have for lovers of cosy life/ farming sim games.

  A feature-rich full game release with no EA purgatory that brings something fun and new to an overly saturated genre?? In this economy??? It's no secret that the farming sim market is saturated, and to my bank account's chagrin, I've bought and played them all. Most feel derivative, either just remakes of old games that rely on nostalgia goggles or cash grabs by half-baked studios that push out unfinished glop after years in EA. There's still a mad dash as studios try to fumble their way into Stardew Valley-esque success by making minor visual adjustments while copy/pasting the same formula. Thankfully, Roots of Pacha is NOT that. RoP sets itself apart with intention, and brings to light just how repetitive and monotonous the other farming sim titles truly are. It feels fresh and engaging, and is just *fun*. I have so much trouble tearing myself away - the world and mechanics are fascinating, I genuinely love my clan, and I FINALLY feel those early-days Stardew vibes of giddy curiosity again. There's a real sense of progression as you watch your village develop. There's always a new idea or event right around the corner that break up what can be a one-note gameplay loop. The village feels alive, and the villagers take an active role in community building rather than just waiting for you to fix everything. The characters so far all have unique traits and engaging personalities, and the cutscenes I've seen so far were wonderful for adding even more context to their behavior. My one bit of advice would be: people who don't love mini-games, you might struggle with this one, because they are frequent. I love them and the way they break up the rest of the gameplay, but it's worth pointing out. To me, this is the only new farming sim worth playing. Buy it, you need it. It deserves WAY more attention than it's getting.

  I love this even more than Stardew Valley, the game is that good! * Taming Animals * Growing Crops * You have to find new crop seeds out in the Forest, Savannah, Jungle, Beach, or in your village, or buy them from a clanmate * Tool upgrades - flint, obsidian, copper, and (haven't gotten this yet surprisingly) bronze * Lots of romanceable characters, and a chance to lose them to someone else * Can have two kids * Can tame a mammoth, wolf, bunny, or even a cave lion cub for a pet (& can have up to 3!) * Cook lots of dishes with a wide variety of foods * Ferment, make cheese, sour cream, brew drinks, and make grain so a large variety of ingredients for cooking and contributing to the clan * Wild foods to find & use immediately (just tree fruits, like almond, pine cones, coconut, ect) * Puzzle in the caves make you think & the hints are very clear My only issues are: * it feels like there isn't enough stamina, especially starting out. Yes, you can eat food but it still feels like there's too little for everything that's available during the day. * Daytime goes by very quickly, it doesn't need to be super slow but slower would be nice * Riding tamed animals is barely faster than walking

  My review as of 8 hours in: Stone age Stardew? Not exactly, and that's a good thing. While the typical Stardew-like mechanics are there, (planting, harvesting, fishing, friendships, gift-giving, animal raising, housing, decorating, caves, etc) the similarities are only surface deep. Pacha offers many QoL and other refreshing changes that make it feel more like a fun, relaxing game and less like a time-management chore. The pros for me are: -The setting and story -Your farm is right in the village. There's no lonely walk to town or being apart from everyone as I work on my chores. -Instead of saving up to buy upgrades and animals, I get to help community members who get "ideas" for improvements as the community itself grows, and these ideas aren't just items either, some of them are concepts, like tracking time. -In the caves, there are challenges / puzzles and mysteries to figure out, and no combat. -The map shows you where everyone is at any given time, so no more schedule memorizing. -The fishing mini-game is relaxing, though I'm sure some will think it's too easy. -seed pouch and tool belt are separate from inventory and other actions. - the artwork is wonderful and the community seems to be full of interesting characters. That's all I have so far. My only con is that I got stuck once and there is no unstuck button so I had to wait until 2am to pass out lol. I'm having fun, and am curious to see what ideas my tribe comes up with next.

  Not so much a review as I played the demo and it's very chill and charming and different than other farming games...... I like it. But this is mainly to let the fellow Steam Deck'ers know that it runs pretty damn good and controls flawlessly. So there's that 😀 I should mention that the controls do take a bit to get used to with the seed bag and tool bag- you use left trigger to cycle through seeds, tools or hold for rotary selection. Also it's a bit weird at first using controller because A uses the tool, or seed instead of X. But once you get used to it, it's very smooth. Bonus points too for the nice pixel graphics and animation, critters are so cute!

  I'll make this quick. This game has been amazing fun so far. Living in a clan is definitely a unique thing for farming sims, and it even helps with the gameplay. You're not working for yourself in Roots of Pacha - you're working for the betterment of your tribe. The better you do, the better everyone does and visa versa. I love exploring to find new seeds, herbs, animals and materials... I actually find myself staying up until nearly 2am in game almost every day because of that. The npcs seem to be an interesting bunch too, but I have to say that I've yet to see many events with them. This is something that I'm looking forward to though because the writing has been enjoyable so far too. Its my opinion that if you're an enjoyer of "cozy" games like Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Coral Island and others like them, you'll likely enjoy Roots of Pacha as well. I've been telling my friends they should check it out.

  Wishing for a neutral review option right about now. After nearly 40 hours of playtime, I feel like I've given the game a pretty honest shot. I wanted so badly to like it more than I did, I just keep telling myself to push through and eventually, I would have more fun once I got past some of the more grindy parts but that moment never came for me. Between the frustrating reproduction of trees rocks and weeds in the fields each season change, the repetitive dungeon layouts so similar to each other that I found myself backtracking constantly, the lack of decent harvestables, the fact that processed goods are often worth less and the confusingly difficult to trigger cut scenes with NPCs, I just found myself having a different experience than I'd been hoping for. It's not without its charm, of course. The animals in the Sahara are great, particularly the mammoths, the NPCs are very pretty, and the character and home customizations are great But the grindy nature of things made it difficult to enjoy in the end. I'd give it like a 6/10 Maybe it's just not for me.

  11 hours in and I'm in love with this game. I'm a veteran of the farming sim genre, and this is an amazing, fresh take on the farming/life sim. Coincidentally, the developers mentioned the book 'The Clan of the Cave Bear' as an inspiration. It's my favorite book and I can see its influence in certain aspects of the game, which is cool :) The NPCs feel likeable, fleshed-out, flawed, and not *too* stereotypical, which is a common issue with these kinds of games. They live their own independent lives: I haven't noticed many repeated idle animations. The village does feel alive. I love the community contribution mechanic, everyone is pitching in to improve the village and you are a part of that! I don't have many QOL complaints, it feels like the developers thought through the game play experience thoroughly and took the common genre complaints into account. Everything so far has felt intuitive and I've been able to explore and play the game without feeling like I need to look up a guide online or read any FAQs. I highly recommend, if you've had your eye on this release, are into Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, or other cozy games, to pull the trigger and go for it!
