  I remember in ages long past playing a game called Pandemic II on one of those flash game wesbites. It was fun. Plague Inc is very much like that game. Except rather than the somewhat simple game from back then, this is a fully fleshed-out game with a significant amount of variety and plenty of nuance. While some of the game play options certainly take some time to get used to, you can still have fun in the process. There is enjoyment in. as morbid as it sounds, finally succeeding in wiping out humanity.

  Too long; Didn’t read: The game is good and can provide a good amount of hours for its price, but it relies on luck way too much to be a good strategy game for most game modes. Plague Inc is a wonderful game. The first time I played it back in was back in 2020, and I got around 30 hours of playtime for $15, or 5 cents per hour I played. The game offers a wide variety of content that will please any casual player looking to at most beat every disease on the hardest difficulty. The mechanics are well-founded, streamlined enough for newcomers and complex enough for dedicated players to make strategies. Despite that, I feel as if the game has a major, major, balancing flaw in the form of luck. Many aspects of this game are luck based. The most well known one being a country named Greenland. The only access port is sailed to via two boats, both of which have an RNG mechanic to determine if said boats are infected. Many islands in the game are also affected by said mechanic, but Greenland is the most noticeable flaw. In my journey of trying to 100% the game, it becomes apartment how big of a flaw the reliance on luck is, as with many other achievements being purely based on luck based pop-ups. Specific scenarios cough Mad Cows Disease cough are extremely unbalanced to the point where achieving the maximum score on the hardest difficulty comes down to scum saving the luck mechanics rather than skill. Rather than re-balance or rework these issues, the developers choose to add a new game mode or scenario and disregard the broken things already in the game. This is especially prominent in trying to attempt the achievement “Not Another Zombie Game”, where you can only win based on a random event. The developers decided to completely screw up how fast the cure is researched on the zombie virus, making it impossible without a random event. These flaws are major problems that have seemed to be outright ignored by the developers. This is enough for me to not want to recommend the game just on the fact that this is supposed to be a strategy game. I love when strategy games included random elements, so every game is different, but it should never be the factor deciding if you win or loose. Especially on achievements. I will not-not recommend this game, though, because although I have a major gripe with these mechanics, for someone who is just going to do the diseases and some scenarios, the game's luck mechanic is okay. You won’t really notice them and can finish the game without annoyance. For me, it doesn’t excuse that the creators have such unbalanced scenarios that remove all skill, but for the average player you will enjoy the game enough and not need to worry about my complainants.

  I played this game in 2014 on iOS when I was 15. I later found its real-life equivalent : epidemiology. After that I switched from economics (high school) to biology (university), because I was hyped for learning more about diseases. This game literally helped me with professionnal orientation.
