  Awesome game from back in the day. Killer soundtrack. FMVs are awesome. You got a campaign with 2 factions: -the humans(soldiers with atvs, pickup trucks with mounted mgs, tanks, they want to take the surface from the mutants). -the mutants(mad max like survivors of a m.a.d. incindent, irradiated humans riding tamed dire wolves, monster trucks, giant scorpions with mounted cannons). There is some inbalance vis-a-vis some units, but its a 20 something yo strategy game and they didnt know how to balance them back then. Buy it and play it if you liked C&C, its a hidden gem

  This was touted as a Mad Max-style C&C clone back in the day. My friends and I used to take turns playing the demo on my Pentium laptop in college. When we got our first desktops, it was one of the first CDs I copied with my CDRW and we all played. We didn't have internet at the time and none of us had considered setting up a peer to peer network to play multiplayer games. This game came out at a time when RTS games ruled the 90s. We had Dune 2000, Command and Conquer, Starcraft, Age of Empires, and Total Annihilation and many clones that borrowed themes from each. KKND was one of those clones that did things quite well. KKND Xtreme was Melbourne Studios Expansion and upgrade of KKND from DOS to Windows 95 DirectX. I must say that Xtreme is missing a few things from the DOS game such as the unit editor. But is otherwise the same game. First Person shooters were coming into their own with Unreal, Quake, Doom 2 and Half Life. These games would soon explode into the basis for shooter games we have today. Enough of this historical nostalgic bent. With KKNDX you gather oil to build your base and build your army. Attack the enemies to win. Find a balance of running trucks between your oil rigs and refineries to continue gathering resources while you spend them to build your army and defenses. Send raiding parties to provoke your enemies into a fight or to draw them away. Then pummel the ever-living sh*t out of them with a larger army. Take out their defenses and oil production to throw a wrench into their war machine. Then clog their base with fire power to prevent them from rebuilding. Rinse and repeat. Buy this game if you want any entertaining romp with High tech Military vs Flintstone tech. If you don't enjoy games like the recent Age of Empires or Command & Conquer remakes, then you probably won't like this game.

  This game is not fun like C&C, StarCraft, or Dawn of War. This game is very difficult. The reason being is, the computer cheats. The computer does not play by the same rules that are set for you. When placing buildings, you are limited by needing to place them very close next to existing buildings. The computer is not limited. It can rebuild buildings on the other side of the map, very far away from their base. This is frustrating because after you destroy defense towers and move on, It will rebuild them right behind you, so if you send reinforcements, they have to fight the same things your main troops just got done fighting. The computer also has infinite oil to collect. You are limited to deposits that are never more than 2/5th of the way full. This runs out very quickly for you. Why in the world the programmers would do this, I do not know. But I do know this makes the game very frustrating. I beat the game. It was very hard. A couple maps I had to watch Youtube videos in order to beat them. This is because a lot of the levels are so difficult, if you do not place your base in a very specific spot and attack the enemy in very specific ways, it is impossible to beat the level. This made the game not fun. I felt determined to beat the game since I had already put so much time into it but if you have never played this game before, I recommend skipping it. Go play Command & Conquer, or StarCraft, or Dawn of War. Those games are balanced and fun.

  This classic still remains badass to this day, and while not as popular like the "Command & Conquer" series is, it still remains memorable to those like me that absolutely LOVED it during their childhoods and so forth, and as such I have VERY fond memories of this title, DEFINITELY a solid 10/10, and perhaps well beyond that due to the pure nostalgic vibes I get from this title. The original missions have a very fair feeling to them for the first few missions for both factions, but as you progress through more and more you are REALLY put to the test as you accumulate enough resources to prepare your defenses/counterattack forces, as the enemy can and WILL overwhelm you if you stick with regular defenses. Thus, it is ALWAYS necessary to add a few units capable of driving off the enemy AI's VERY harsh waves that get MUUUCCH larger as time progresses, and while the enemy AI never drain oil from their derricks, you DO, and as such careful use of resources is needed whenever doing the aforementioned tasks of maintaining your defenses/defensive units whilst preparing your counterattack forces, you have been warned... All-in-all, a TRULY memorable gem I still love to this very day... <3

  For me this is the absolute classic right next to C&C, Dark Colony and Dune 2000. Im so glad this older classics finding their way on Steam ! Works fine on my win10 only the Steam overlay is not working so you can't make screenshots :/

  Nostalgia overload!! I was born in 1995 and my dad at the time was really into playing PC games. When I was 2-3 He had acquired KKnD Xtreme on a demo disc - he never owned the actual game. The demo had every feature in the game, aside from the multiplayer capability and a few Kaos mode maps. He would let me watch him play it and we'd sit there for hours. Eventually it got to a point that he'd let me play my own games on Kaos mode, but with his guidance. I didn't know how to use a keyboard at the age of 3 but luckily, for KKnD and other RTSs at the time, all you needed was a mouse, and that was all I used. I still remember all of my dad's old strategies he used, while playing. I use them today and I'm able to play pretty efficiently, even on the hardest difficulty. KKnD was the first genuine video game I had ever played. And to this day, being 25 years old, I can't think of any other RTS that has the kind of character this game has. It's a very simple RTS, compared to it's rivals from around that time. But with KKnD, there IS beauty in it's simplicity.
