  I bought the game earlier today and was'nt able to run it - "Can't find Steam". About to ask for my money back, I found a solution from a german user. It takes only a few steps und it's very simple. 1. Navigate to the Steam-side in your System - maybe "C/Program(x86)/Steam" or so. There you find the file "Steam.dll". 2. Mark the file and copy it with strlg+c. 3. Go to "steamapps/common/Jade Empire", click on the right space, create a new folder and name it "Steam_appid". Save the folder and click in it - if you can't see "7110" there, write it. 4. Now go with the right mouse button on the application "JadeEmpire" and give her the name "JadeEmpireLauncher" - since this application exists, the system change the name to "JadeEmpireLauncher (2)". 5. Give the genuin "JadeEmpireLauncher" the name "JadeEmpire". 6. And at last: change "JadeEmpireLauncher (2)" to "JadeEmpireLauncher". Now the game should start successfully. I'm no computer specialist and therefore I cannot say why it works, but in my case - it works.

  Did a quick Fix for Windows 10 1.First you have to copy the Steam.dll file from the Steam main folder to the Jade Empire game folder (this solves the error "unable to find Steam" when starting the game). 2.Go into the Steam Jade Empire folder and delete the Jade Empire launcher then use the Jade Empire game file to launch Game worked for me

  Nice game, one of the unavoidable classics of the genre. It hasn't grown old after all these years. It took me two very simple actions to made it work in Windows 10 : First you have to copy the Steam.dll file from the Steam main folder to the Jade Empire game folder (this solves the error "unable to find Steam" when starting the game). And second, I have saved a copy of the original JadeEmpireLauncher.exe file, and copied JadeEmpire.exe to JadeEmpireLauncher.exe. This way it enters directly into the game and avoids the launchers, which wasn't able to run on my system. Don't worry about setting a correct configuration, you don't really need the launcher for that, it can also perfectly be done within the game.

  NOTICE. I've beat the game on more than 1 occasion. It's good. Great even. I'm reviewing it based on the Steam release, and it has issues. (completely fixable, but still) (1) If you try to start the game, it will crash. This is an easy fix: ** Credit to xAlphaStarOmegax** Guide to fixing the launcher issues; Go to your Steam folder and copy the 'steam.dll' file, now go to the Jade Empire folder and paste it in there. -Next rename the JadeEmpireLauncher to 'JadeEmpireLauncherBackup' -Then rename the JadeEmpire to 'JadeEmpireLauncher'. That will cause Steam to bypass the Launcher completely and just run the Game so no more Launcher crashes. (2) The game is hard capped to run at about... 30 frames per second. It cause a very choppy effect, renders the game unplayable. (I'm not being picky here, it really breaks it) There is a fix I found in the steam community: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=197207529 If you follow this post, it will fix the choppy problem. Make sure you install the program recommended from this page. It's pretty simple. Then the game is perfectly playable. Hope this helps. I can't leave a good review with these issues though.

  [b]one of my fave games of all time; such a shame this is a bad port...[/b] [u]how to get the game to work on windows 10:[/u] 1) Copy the ‘steam.ddl’ file into jade empire folder. 2) Right click on the jade empire.exe go into properties->compatibility->then select run for Vista service pack 2. 3) Launch the config program and make sure your system information is correct then select ‘save settings’ with the file location as the jade empire folder itself. 4) Enjoy. :))

  DO NOT BUY THIS GAME While the game itself is really enjoyable, you may find that you can never get it to work on your PC. I, and countless others who have purchased it through steam, cannot even run the game because of the multitude of errors, crashes, and issues we have run into trying to play it. Steam cannot fix anything about the game since it's not their own game, and everyone knows EA isn't ever going to do a thing about it. I repeat, do not buy this game. It is a shame that many will never get the chance to enjoy it due to its serious and literal game-breaking start-up issues. I've tried for hours to get this game to work with numerous workarounds including but not limited to uninstalling and reinstalling the game, moving important files around to different directories in File Explorer, running steam as administrator, and creating separate files to bypass issues with the launcher. I was able to temporarily fix the issue, but after a crash in which my whole computer froze, it never was able to start again. If you can find a copy of this for any platform other than Steam, I would recommend you pursue that option. As for now, you'll just be wasting money and time trying to get a good game to run.

This game is also on mobile (iOS & Android), which is a tad inferior to this PC version, but is still good. This game has become one of my favorite games, but I find the quality of quests, choices, and other features lacking compared to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games. However, compared to the KOTORs, this game has better combat. The story, dark martial arts fantasy setting, and characters are very strong in this game. The combat is a little bit janky and clunky, but some depth opens up when you acquire many styles and some transformations. The target locking is not so bad, but I found an issue with the style switching (on the dpad) once you start collecting many of them. Having to hold one directional button when you want to use a style outside the four designated ones gets quite tedious. And the combat pause seems quite useless as it’s literally just a pause. The combat pause doesn’t allow switching styles or targets in it, and I found that to be a missed opportunity for the gameplay. I’ll expand more on this review if I have the time. But this game should definitely be remastered to run on modern OS and ported to other platforms. Bring it back to Android. Or better yet, remake the game!
