  TECHNICAL ISSUES: SCROLL DOWN FURTHER FOR GAME. Imagine you purchase a book that's 1,000 pages in length but you can't open it because you took off the price tag. Now imagine you put it back on, you can now open and read the book BUT pages 75 - 500 are blank pages. Yes folks this describes Dusk 12 perfectly. Before you start the game you will get a window for all your options video, AA, shaders etc. Now if you touch anything and I mean ANYTHING even just moving it up one that's it you have screwed yourself and the game will not launch. Now let's say it does launch, think you're safe? Oh no. You want to hit escape to pause? Enjoy your frozen game. You want to skip a cutscene? Enjoy your game freeze. Now if you dissable music AND cutscenes (video playback) and also install NVidia Legacy driver well then look at that you can play it, but what is the point of playing something where story points are blocked out? Well you could focus on what you get, but imagine in order to play Max Payne 3 you had to dissable loading scenes and cutscenes, you'd have no idea what the Hell just happened. If you are running earlier then Windows 98 or newer then a Windows XP then that's it, no cutscenes to explain story and no music to set the mood, and having both of those off you will still wait to see if it'll even work or just freeze at a loading screen. GAME. Now for the actual game. Dusk 12 has you controling 2 people, a mutant and a soldier. The setting is in a town that's been hit with something (but again we don't know because you are forced to dissable cutscenes.) Now, this is from a Russian company so all spoken lines are English dub overs (and we all know how bad those can be) so if you come in expecting anything other then cringe worthy then stay away. The gunplay is standard, the progression is a little slow but the mutant powers are pretty good (night vision, health regeneration by draining life from enemies.) Gameplay it is simple point A to point B. Now if you've played any kind of Russian games you should know that the graphics are outdated, just look at this, this is from 2007 (released 2008.) The ragdolls are basic and the effects are nothing special. Overall I'd chalk it up to a no-frills standard shooter and a boring one at that. I'm not thumbing down because of the technical issues, I'm thumbing down because it's a boring game in general.

  Dusk 12 is an awful game, that's also plagued by some insane technical problems. Story: In Dusk 12 you play as two different characters, a soldier and a human infected with a virus which turned him into a mutant. The soldiers goal is to plow through mutants and soldiers to get a secret lab and the mutant is on a quest to figure out what happened to him. If what I described doesn't make sense, well it's because it doesn't. The story is insanely hard to follow, to the point where I actually got confused on what was happening as the game jumps from one character to another and the story points that happen make no sense and make the story insanely confusing. Also it doesn't help that when the characters speak to one another you can't understand anything they are saying as the volume for it is either too low, or other audio from the game itself is interrupting them. Graphics: Dusk 12 originally came out in 2007, the year of Crysis, Mass Effect, Bioshock and many other games that still hold up to this day, but Dusk 12 looks like a late PS2 game and by that I mean it looks awful. The graphics are terrible, many of the textures are low res, the character models are ugly as hell, the cutscenes look horrible, hell everything about the graphics is horrible. Audio: The audio is also really bad. The soundtrack is terrible and often then not is really distracting as it's too loud and often it drowns out the dialogue making the story hard to follow as mentioned before. The voice acting is actually kind of decent for the most part, but not all of it as the guy that does the mutants voice is absolutely horrendous. Also most of the gun sounds and explosions are often bugged and will glitch out. For example there's one level in the game which is on rails and you have to blow up barrels and the sound glitches out making this screeching noise that hurts my ears. Gameplay: The gameplay is semi-decent, but not amazing. The two different characters have different gameplay styles, the soldier uses guns and explosives and the mutant is a melee only with superpowers to aid you in completing the levels. The Soldier levels are a simple shooter where you progress by shooting everything in sight and as for the mutant levels you go around and punch everything to death, but the mutant has a few powers you get while playing the game. You get a slow down power which slows everything down (sort of like bullet time), fast movement, night vision and a force push power. which are all nice, but most of them are useless the only one that's worth a damn is the slow-mo power up. The game itself is a rather generic shooter, but it suffers from one major problem and that's the technical side of things that make the game almost unplayable. After each loading screen the game takes at the very least 15 minutes to start up this happens every single time, even after you boot up the game. That's why my total game time is 19 hours, I had to do other stuff in between waiting for levels to load. To give you an idea how long I had to wait, I almost finished watching an entire season of How I met your mother before the end credits rolled. The entire game is roughly three hours long, so that was almost 16 hours of just waiting for levels to load. The only way to fix this is to disable the cutscenes and the sound which will make the story impossible to follow. Verdict: Dusk 12 is a generic shooter that's a waste of time and money. I got it on sale for 39 cents and I feel like I got ripped off. Even though on sale it's cheap, my honest suggestion is just save up money and buy something good instead.   I really don't know about this game as I never played it, never opened it. It does not want to open and I have sent mail to Steam support with no answer as to why the game will not open. I have all the proper physx drivers and more then enough memory with a quad processor. Please not waste your time and money on this game like I did...

  Now, I'll be the first to say but I actually LOVED Dusk 12. It's a crap game, there's no denying that - it is a really bad first person shooter but that badness is something special compared to a lot of other crap first person shooters. Orion Games have a way with developing games. While what they have made is almost universally crap, there's a huge dose of special charm to it that a lot of other bad games just can't seem to replicate. It's adorable and hilarious how it tries to be a good game, the dialogue is hilarious, the voice acting is laughable, the story is ridiculous especially with its WTF twist ending and the cheesy music that plays throughout - there really is a lot to love here. But as I look at what's been made here, I can tell love was put into the game, while the developer's incompetence speaks for itself you can tell they wanted Dusk 12 to go somewhere or at the very least, gain some kind of cult following. And I can safely say, I loved this game - had a smile on my face the whole way through and made me laugh quite a few times. And being interested in weird, obscure games, this was a must buy for me the second I saw it. It's a Steam review so for those who are thinking about buying, I'll make a list of pros and cons for you; Pros - Fun, competent gunplay - Funky enemy types - Plenty of variety in level design all throughout - Lots of enemies - More akin to old school FPS - Hilariousness all around (As stated above) - Cheesy music Cons - Horrid visuals - Very hard to understand what's going on in the story - A few sections are annoying or confusing (Thankfully they don't take too long to figure out) - Level design is confusing at times - Gorin sections can be a pain, especially when dealing with the cat-monkey mutants things - If you want nothing but gold in your games, you'll despise this The game can be beaten is 3-5 hours so it's a very short ride but I ride I certainly don't regret - just know that depending on your tastes in games; your mileage will greatly vary. But it's easily one of the best worst games I've ever played; almost reaches Deadly Premonition levels of so-bad-it's-good but it's not quite there.

  pros -... cons -can soft lock every mission -saving too much will cause crashing -boring -guns don't align with reticle -loads and loads of bugs first off LOL. secondly i dont like to bash any game even the really bad ones but this one has seriously messed up my day. I love jank, i like going through something and finding its flaws and having a little laugh about it. this is a special case ill just list out how it would go if you decide to play this. 1. to get it running you'll have to do some messing with files, i don't think this should be the case with something you buy... but its forgivable with older jankier stuff. 2. if you move off the path the game wants you to take to explore, their are a ton of ways to soft lock the game just by maybe clipping into a room with no exit, or falling into something with no ladders out. 3. to combat point number two you might say "ill just save everytime i decide to explore" well.. lemme tell you big boiii, the game will suddenly start crash on random saves if they are overused... i had to start the game over at least three times due to a corrupt save. TL;DR dont play this. not even for the jank.

  Very good game. I don't know why do so many people hate it. I have no any issues... There was only one problem: "Not found PhysX driver", but i have installed PhysX legacy and it works now.   [h1] [i] A half-decent shooter that is unfortunately so broken it's literally unplayable [/i] [/h1] Dusk 12 could have been one of those "its so bad its good" first person shooters if it weren't for its utterly broken and nonfunctional state. If you are lucky enough to even launch the game after installing several drivers and changing sound files, you will be bound to fairly low resolution with small aspect ratio because the game simply refuses to work at any others. Cool, you might think, I can handle that. Then you encounter another host of issues in the form of bugs, persisntent crashing (don't even think about alt-tabbing during the game) and unbalanced difficulty. Okay, I can still get over those problems, you say and so did I. After all, at its core, the game is not that bad. Its one of those low-budget unknown FPSs that were pumped out all the time by starting companies but it does try a semi-unique concept of playing separately as a mutant with special abilities and soldier with standard equipment. While graphics and level design aren't aspects to be wirtten poems about, the shooting is decent and it actully has really good soundtrack. So what is the main issue? In my case, the game for some reason decided to make hitboxes of all characters bigger and therefore everyone, including you and enemies always gets stuck in the doorways. That isn't that big of a problem when it comes to you and bad guys, but it does break the game completely when there is a mandatory escort quest and your partner inevitably gets stuck. I could not and did not figure out a way to fix this and thus can not, in clear conscience, recommend the game even though its really not that bad.   Awful game. Got it running with no audio but it wasn\'t worth the effort. Terrible AI, ridiculous enemies that spaz around, generic shooting mechanics and constantly running out of ammo. The only thing I did like were the mutant powers but they were fairly limited. The \"story\" is ridiculous and the voice work is absurd. It\'s definitely a very outdated game that I think would have been bad even back in 2002.
