BEFORE YOU BUY PLEASE READ! Please remember this is coming from an unbias opinion as I have never played this game till today nor been involved in watching it's progress. So I have been playing this game for 5 hours or so now and something has become very clear to me through my playtime. I have encountered more bugs than I ever have on a early access game; far more than The Isle, Draconia, Beasts of Bermuda, or other survival games with similar mechanics. I see that very recently crocodile was added as a playable and that there are two dlcs (christmas and skins) already. I think this is really horrific considering the state of the game and the fairly high price-tag of $30AUD/$20USD. I think it would be in everyone's interest if playable's development was halted for now and the basic concept and mechanics of the game were fixed and given some love. Here are some of the issues I encountered in under 3 hours of play; - Leopard climbing insanely broken (Don't even understand why it was added in this state tbh it is horrific). - Getting stuck in eating animation - Getting stuck in drinking animation - Getting stuck in lying animation - Drinking not working in certain areas of water at all - textures turning white - textures turning glossy - calls changing ?? - calls not working - jump not working - delayed jump/bite/run - delayed damage - hitboxes not being biteable - Unable to stick meat - Unable to pick back up stick-ed gores - Models turning insanely low poly on high end pcs - Insane crashes/disconnects when ping/internet/FPS is completely fine - Getting default skins from nesting w/ non default parents - animation glitches w/ IK system - Unable to pick up babies - Unable to eat meat - Unable to eat edible plants - Group invt not working. - Insane lag and rubberbanding - Delayed footprints - Leopard's tail kinks as it runs - Bodies despawning after less than 2 minutes. This is an absolutely insane amount of glitches for the very short amount of time I have played, and I would never endorse nor recommend an early access game this broken to any player. This game has amazing potential, but the devs need to have a look at what really matters and focus on that to a serious degree.

Going to be very honest here: I was excited for this game. VERY excited. The market for this genre is thin, and if the dev team actually did anything with it my dream game would have come to life. The problem is, they don't. I think this may be another cash grab early access, or devs that got in over their heads. Almost a year after release and it's practically identical to its premiere build, if not worse and buggier than before. Animal balancing has been favoring for carnivores since the beginning, which makes being any herbivore downright tedious and unfair -- with even RHINOS AND ELEPHANTS struggling against a couple of lions. You may wonder, how did they respond to this consistent criticism? They added a carnivore that one or two shots almost the entire roster. Beautiful. Speaking of criticism, they do not take any of it well AT ALL. Any critique is seen as a threat, and this is especially showcased in their Discord server. They ignore any questions or feedback they deem "too harsh" or "too unfair", while giving almost nothing in return to the community that backed their Kickstarter and have supported their game for months at a time. That's funny, considering a majority of the negative and "too harsh" feedback they receive is based on the fact this game's updates are few and far between, and when they DO happen, they break the game even worse than the last patch. Oh, and did you know it has DLC? In Early Access. It's barely even a Beta, and most core game mechanics do not work as intended -- but there's DLC. DLC that is overpriced, and now includes a playable character within them. The DLC is $15 for a rabbit that cannot eat, drink, or jump -- and they are not offering refunds whatsoever from what I know nor do they seem to care it was released in a completely broken state. I did not buy it personally, but I have seen several others very frustrated by this and it is not the only occurrence of something of this nature from these developers. For example, for many owners of this game it is not even playable. Upon purchase and installation, it does not launch. It's a common issue, yet it doesn't seem to be very high at all on the dev team's to-do list for development and bug fixes. This game has a lot of potential -- but until the devs focus less on the money aspect and more on the quality and community, this game will be forgotten when it gains competition from another game of the same idea. At the moment, not worth the price or the time. * Will come back and update this review if they heavily improve the things mentioned here.

I have seen a ton of unhelpful reviews on this game that are definitely dragging it down and warding potential players away from it, and the content it has to offer. I've played it for near 70 hours so far because I wanted to get more of a grasp before reviewing it. I have that grasp now. There are pros, and obviously there are cons. In my opinion, I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons. (which you're entitled to not give a crap about.) I've seen a few reviews where people have compared the game to The Isle. I'm a player of The Isle, and I acknowledge the similarities, but I've noticed similarities to games like Beast of Bermuda as well. Animalia so far has proven to be well-rounded. The models are not mind-blowing but they're amazing for a game in it's stage. The graphics aren't mind-blowing but they're also amazing for a game in it's stage. When I purchased the game, I was nervous. But I wouldn't take back the $20 I spent buying the game, nor will I quit playing this game. It has all the same traits and content you'll find in games like The Isle and yet Animalia is nowhere close to completion and new updates are coming out weekly. The developers have proven that they are on top of their game and they pump out fixes to bugs within a matter of hours to days. I can tell that they are putting their all into Animalia, and as a player, this is heavily appreciated. It gives me hope for the games future. While some reviews are telling you to wait longer, I encourage you buy it now. Don't wait -- rip the band aid off. You won't be disappointed if your a lover of realistic animal life simulators.

I really like the concept of this game, it's something I've wanted to be developed for a long time, the devs have done well so far and I'm glad someone has taken this project on so I don't want to be harsh as I don't think it's deserved. Pros: I like the range of animals (more will be added) with their customisation options as well as the life stages, and the inclusion of flying animals which I think they've done an amazing job with, the feather animations are particularly good. The graphics are nice and the lighting and skybox is amazing, and the underwater animations and sound were solid. Some people have said they weren't able to play as elephants but I was able to play as all species available currently including elephants, some just don't have other life stages beyond adult right now. Global chat is helpful and a feature that should stay, don't take it out like Evirma did. The map is large and though I didn't explore all of it, it seems diverse in landscape, the load in region selector is solid. There were more people playing than I expected there to be and servers have a high capacity which is good and hopefully will be more populated in the future. That being said there's still a long way to go - as is expected in an early access game. It's taken clear inspiration from The Isle which is a step in the right direction for this kind of animal simulator, but needs some polish. The mating system will be interesting but I didn't get a chance to try it out. Cons: Running feels more like drifting across the floor, the turning is a bit clunky and the animal sounds clip in and out in an unnatural way, some species are also missing some of the different calls but it's still early days so I don't fault that too much and I'm sure they'll be added and changed. The combat so far isn't much different from other games like this, your basic left and right mouse click attacks. There is very little in the way of world sound and the night vision is.. interesting, it illuminates your character with a spotlight but that's about it so doesn't make navigating in the dark much easier but that could be a purposeful choice. I couldn't tell if there was NPC's or not, there was lots of bodies on the floor which were still alive but looked to be dying so I don't know if they were the bodies of players that had respawned to test other animals or not. There's not much direction as to controls or tutorials. All in all it's not a bad game, I wish I could recommend but right now I can't say it's worth the price - unless you don't mind running around aimlessly and just enjoy the global chat - but I would be interested in continuing to support the development in hopes of seeing a really good game in the future. In a couple years time once it's had more work I'll come back to it and see how it's improved, The Isle took a long time to be the game it is today. I wish the devs good luck.

EDIT: I still think you shouldn't buy this game. At the moment it is hardly functional and when they do update it they usually break the game even more. I suggest staying away from the servers pride lands and kenya. Theyre both full of admins that think theyre above everyone and absolutely full of it lmao. I dont think the actual admins are great either. When you report things they never actually do anything. I dont think this game is worth $20 or anything at all tbh. It's very disappointing and gets boring very quickly. I am guessing this is just a quick money grab. They also dont make the models. They buy them. Its not very impressive at all. Whats even more funny is that you gotta donate money to get different skins and its not just $10 here or there... no they expect $100+ to be donated. I regret buying this game and wish I could get a refund or even partial refund. Its not worth a penny.

Might as well call this game Lion Simulator. Being one lone elder, you can pretty much kill anything in the game. As a pride, well, have fun wiping the server of everything else. The elder lion can run down wildebeests from across the map and elephants/rhinos are just walking fodder for the first lions that see them and want them dead. They can't get away and they either don't hit hard enough to deter them ( needs to be one shot or very close to it ) or the group just takes turns and switches out until the elephant/rhino goes down-which is inevitable as they cannot escape. The game needs some serious balancing, as it's laughably skewed towards lions. This is in addition to it's terrible rubber-banding issues which makes it pretty much unplayable on high pop servers. The game could be good and I want to really like it, but as of now, thumbs down.

Oh boy, where to begin. Don't waste your money on this game. I really wanted to love this game, It seemed so cool, I thought it would be a great way to meet people and have fun. Being in crazy animal packs, surviving bla bla. How it went: Spawned in as a lion on solo. Ran for half an hour, found no other animals. Thought maybe I needed to be on multiplayer. Hopped into a multiplayer server. Stood alone as an elephant and then a lion for about 20 minutes each. I felt pretty alright as the elephant, but the game was so boring, you just stand, eat, drink, and repeat. I managed to grow once as the elephant waiting to meet people. Eventually two lions roll up and kill me. This game does not have nameplates for other users so you never really can make friends, the servers that are populated have 3000 rules and they charge you for things like accessing certain animal spp. Everyone picks lion and just scouts out new players to kill constantly, pretty much impossible to build up or have fun. Requested a refund, seriously do not play this game. My recommendations for the devs: develop a better party system, develop a smaller map, or have a minimap so people can at least know where they are and try to find other players. I hated this game lol. I am really sorry. Don't buy.
