"Captain Gale Pilgrim & the Jackals of Space"
Quite funny RPG Maker P&C space adventure in episode two. Build a mousetrap, hide religious ppl on your ship, resist bravely the interrogations of those Jackals. Why do you even wonder that the ship's AI likes more its programmer than you? As a female captain of the spaceship Pilgrim you are just a better stewardess to all of your problem guests. You'll encounter again many critical moments with a new 3 persons crew. This time you even replay an interplanetary escape with a cyborg and its creator. Highly expecting episode three ...
Space Pilgrim Episode Two: Epsilon Indi
If you like Firefly at all then you may just love this RPG Maker style game where you interact with items to play out episodic style narratives, with a few small puzzles involving item mixing and of course, a few laughs now and then. Edit: 2019 and I have played this episode through 6 times over the past several years! This game has mature content, mainly tame sexual or bodily references for humor. Recommended for teenagers and above. Episode 2 features the nice mechanics and gameplay mentioned in my Episode One review Added on are a few extra features, game mechanics and ways to play. There is also more content and play time than the first episode, which was more of an introductory 'chapter.' There are more items, interactions, rooms/game cells and the puzzles require slightly more brain power, giving about 90-120 minutes gameplay. Possibly more if some puzzles puzzle you. :P There is slightly more mix of re-entering old rooms in this episode however, and I found myself wandering back and forth quite a few times looking for certain items, or when characters gave me instructions that were not clear enough about what computer to use etc. For that small amount of repetitive walking I did, I am thankful for the mouse support. About 99% of the pathing by clicking is really well done,
especially in the suit on the space walk, which was really cool
, and my character only messed up their pathing twice clicking across long cells, which is really awesome work to program the character to do that. The characters are still boringly cliche, such as
another priest/nun religious character, generic group of soldiers with one female added in, hardcore sergeant, immoral G-men/women running 'round with gloves of blue and not mysterious briefcases this time and a Kryten... ah, android,
, but what is not cliche these days? The animation tiles in this game series look atmospheric to a tee. I especially love seeing the ship in space, and the
space walk looked great showing the ships hull, as did the ground sections on the planet, especially the cliffs/fence when you walk into the courtyard near the bin.
As another journey on the passenger and cargo starship Quicksilver comes to an end and the familiar music comes on whilst the credits start to roll I am left with an excited smile to see what happens on the next episode of Space Pilgrim! Thanks again, and I anticipate when this series ends I will certainly be feeling the all too familiar, "Firefly got cancelled," and, "If only they had made a few more episodes," set of feels. This is, after all, the only set of RPG Maker games/episodes I have purchased and probably will ever purchase. Enjoy the game you smegheads. - Nerf

A year after the Alpha Centauri Incident, Gail Pilgrim is still in the passengers business, though she has Sabina White, the clever scentist that became her co-pilot. Unfortunately, now in Epsilon Indi, she's under the investigation of the J.A.C., the corrupt space police. Between the rebel scientist, the priestess of a strange cult and the young man that want to be a Jackal, Gail and Sabina have to survive the encounter. And what surprise is in stock for them? This game is the sequel of Space Pilgrim Episode I: Alpha Centauri. So, you bet that you're familiar with the ship. The story is still well-written, with the same humor as before: Gail still in dangerous situation, not really trusting herself, Sabina still logical and in her world and now, on top of that, a young man overconfident with himself, a scientist that is too absorbed in his work and a priestess that makes sense but not really. You still have Galactic Hospital as the sitcom on TV and the cat Zubar, though he's not useful in this opus. The game is an adventure game made in RPG Maker - so don't expect any leveling or xp or any skill to upgrade. However, the gameplay is still take items, use them, combine them, examine them and discuss with people around (so that you can get more information about everyone). Again, you'll play two characters: Gail in the first two acts and someone else in the last one. The graphics are correct, though we lost Gail's goggles. Anyway, if you liked the first episode, you'll like this one and like the fact that you will have some other landscapes to walk in. The soundtrack is as usual good and the trick with intercom is still working: activate the music and you'll hear something else than the ambient sounds. Epsilon Indi is a little longer than the first game, given the fact that you have more to do around. Anyway, again, the price isn't a factor to prevent yourself to buy it. Go for it!

Alright, the second episode in Space Pilgrim is done and dusted. I think the story is starting to get even more interesting now. Since you should have played the first game before trying this one out, you should have some idea of what this game will be all about from an aesthetic and gameplay standpoint. In this one, the intrigue continues as you have taken on more passengers and of course, something is not as it seems. Which becomes apparent when a J.A.C. ship boards to search your ship for fugitives. Anyway, I liked this episode better than the first. I will be interested to see where episode 3, not sitting in my library, will take us. Much like the last, considering the fact that this is an RPG Maker title, I would actually rate this 8 out of 10. Pros : - OK story, better than 1st series - Better character - OK soundtrack - Nice pixel art - Cheap - Trading cards Cons : - Puzzle is too easy - Story too short - Yet another RPG games There's no reason not to buy this game, you can enjoy an hour (or less) of sci-fi story and you can earn profit from sell the trading cards.
Definitions!
What is a roleplaying game, and what makes it so? Levels? Progression? Items and Artifacts to collect? If you think this is what a roleplaying game consists off, you are wrong - and totally so. A lot of old school Pen & Paper Roleplaying games didn't need levels, or a progression scale - and often Items and Artifacts just were something that were used against the players, not by them. Ever heard of classic games like Traveller, Prime Directive, World of Darkness (Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling among many others), Call of Cthulhu, Aria, Immortal, Nephilim or Shadowrun? All those games were good old school RPGs some made it to the Computer others like Aria and Immortal were torn beyond recognition, others like Prime Directive became known to a bigger fanbase through Starfleet Command and Starfleet Command II. Others like Shadowrun, Vampire, Call of Cthulhu became their direct ports. The argument, that already arose when the genre was young in the seventies was the artificial "Plateaus" Leveled games offered and caused. Those pleteaus caused two things, which we still see in a lot of RPGs nowadays... One is the so called Monty Haul campaigning, to push the Characters over this Plateau artificially by supplying them with a lot of assets (Items mostly) and the other was the so called "Min Maxing"-Power creation, every player wanted that his character should survive therefore you often had fighters with scores of 18/00 and Constitution of 18... those things threw the concept of intelligent playing, and overcoming foes and obstacles over board, because every Character was a fricking demigod... which got worse by leveling up in both issues (More magical items, to push that plateau even further, or to raise the stats even to higher levels). This said, this game is an RPG. Even though it doesn't offer progression or levels. And another thing that is quite unnerving by now, and Steam could change is the User defined tag system - you see a lot of false tags on games that don't offer what the tags are telling. It would be better to offer a developer driven Tag system. How many games are tagged with sexual content, that don't have anything in it with sex... and is it necessary to make a "Jewels" clone with just one spacey background to be tagged with "space"? Since it is an uncommon RPG I will change the table for this kind of games.

[th]Category[/th][th]Score[/th][th]Notes[/th]

Graphics6Some new assets. But a lot of typical RPG-Maker fare. Not too bad, but not too good either. Graphics aren't the most important thing in a game though.

Sound7Some of the sound assets of RPG Maker aren't bad, some are also quite original. If not overused.

Story8Decent, not too fishy story. Not what you are used to see often in a lot of RPG Maker games, the dev really wanted to catch the life of your average Joe space-tramp, plought the trading lanes. With all the up and downs, drama and tragic that can come with it.

Interactivity7Adventuresce interactivity, actually for this game not bad.

Playability5Works fine, but again has no replayability value.

Value8Good value at 90 Cents for a game that has about an hour of playtime, and an interesting story - sorry to break your pattern.

Overall[th]6,8 ~ 7[/th]*

Recommended
Yes, I recommend this game, since it's a nice game telling a decent Science Fiction story, nothing too fishy and it includes some mysteries and clarifications about the background of the Space Pilgrim Setting.

I had a positive rate for the first episode Still this rating isn't totally negative. I stopped playing the game at some point because I lost the excitment, the gameplay and is so linear and similar. If only you can add up more things to the gameplay like puzzles or anything else that makes it a bit more amusing.

I have already written reviews for the other Space Pilgrim episodes, so I won't be super annoying here. Let's just say that this is a complete series made up by four games and created by Pilgrim Adventures. The games all cost less than 1€, and they're all worthy definitely. They're made with RPG Maker and althought the window may seem small, everything turns out to be extremely entertaining and well-designed. This is the second episode of the series, which is connected and takes place in the same extraterrestrial environment; you of course will play different characters, switch between them, make choices and so on (some achievements need two playthroughs since they rely on your choices). The game itself is a little bit like a RPG, but you don't have to fight or such (apart from some little parts); it's most of a point n' click adventure except for the fact that you have one character to explore everything, collect items, mix them up and so on. For what concerns the series, yeah, it gets better for every episode (feel free to check the Steam guides if you're stuck, 'cos sometimes they get difficult!).. the first one is the easiest and shortest, and then they go on with length and difficulty. I'd have loved to be able to review the whole series in a single page but I can't, even though it's different to review single episodes.. I strongly recommend the whole series, even 'cos you need to get through the complete story and its ending. Playing episode 2 alone it's still ok, but way less charming and interesting! Apart from the plot things, the game runs smooth and characters and environment are always greatly designed - like a RPG - and the sound effects are ok too. If you're into sci-fi adventures with lots of combinations and secrets to solve, this series needs to be played from the start to the end :) Have fun with Space Pilgrim, you won't be disappointed but.. come here after Episode I - Alpha Centauri, trust me :)
