  SurrounDead is one of those rare early access games that shines as the game clearly shows that the developer put a lot of time, heart and soul into it. Currently I have not noticed any major defects or bugs. The only annoying bug I have found is the ability to reload weapons does not work using 'R' to reload so currently the player has to drag the ammo to the gun each time to reload which can make it challenge when you have multiple zombies homing in on you. Just shoot, run, reload, shoot again and you will succeed. **** Edited *** Just an FYI when using firearms such as a revolver look at the gun and you will notice it shows things like e.g. magazine, cylinder and so on. Just because you find a firearm does not mean that it will work 100% until you have found all parts. Initially this sounds like a pain but it is fine. SurrounDead is a third person game (can be made first person) where you try to survive against zombies, as well as hunger and thirst by exploring and obtaining weapons (so far I have found .45 revolver, varmint rifle, AK and various melee weapons) you will also find food, painkillers, clothing and other related items. The player will start with a knife but they must equip it first by right-clicking the weapon and selecting equip. To use the melee weapon then press '3' and then RMB and then LMB to attack the only problem is while you do attack the zombie can hit you during this stage because you are so close to the zombie so try to use 'C' for dodge. Graphically the game is very good and has a quick tutorial as well. There is HUGE potential for this game and I will look forward with every update. So far in my exploration I have found a jeep, buggy and my favorite an RV. Having vehicles definitely helps and they are fun to drive and squish zombies. Not sure exactly how many vehicles are in the game or planned but that is what I have found so far. Just a TIP when there is more than one zombie be careful as the zombies can make it difficult for your vehicle to move and it will appear that you are trapped but if you keep accelerating and moving then eventually you will escape. I also found a gas mask and a F.O.B. base but beware while in this area the gas mask will not protect the player as I had hoped as you will lose health and die, so there has got to be a radiation pills or a suit to be able to explore that area. Just have not found that yet but I will. :-) **** Update: I have found radiation pills outside the rad zone (zombie soldier) and at the hospital. After finding and equipping a GPS the player will be able to use 'M' to open the map and see the current and planned game map. One other thing I will point out is that the game does introduce different weather events such as raining, snowing. At nighttime the game can get VERY DARK to the point that you will not be able to see without a flashlight, so if zombies are in the area it would be unwise to attack unless you have more light from a source such as a lantern, wall light etc.

  A very promising early access zombie sandbox. With whats already available I am enjoying the gameplay loop and I am looking forward to whats to come.

  Honestly, after just the first hour of playing this game, i realized i was going to love it. The chill music, the chill shoot, loot, and scoot gameplay. Just to get away from all the competitive games and relax a bit, this is a good escape. It is a very relaxing game with so much potential. I loved every second that i played and know i'll be back at it the next day. Give it a shot, $16 is a perfect price point for the game at this stage. Main reason i even found it was due to me being super bored of all the games i own and i went ahead and started going through the steam Discovery Queue, sure enough, lead me to what i was looking for.

  I'm gonna be honest, I feel like a lot of us in the review section needed a break from competitive games. SurrounDead is hands down one of the best games I've downloaded so far, it's very fun, relaxing and downright really good. I would recommend this game to those that just need to relax and chill for the night, you'll love it!

  I was truly torn if I want to give this game a go or not... After all, I love survival titles and played the most of them + this game offers a more pve experience, what's lack of has kept me away from quite a few games so far, but the graphics style wasn't for me... But then I thought: Hey. Valheim looked weird at the beginning, and then the lighting and the mood kicked in and bam, I was in love. So I purchased: Surroundead. (Love the name btw. <3) I'm only a bit over three hours in, I know + it's early access, so there is still some emptiness going around and surely a few bugs (didn't come across any myself tho) and still, I highly recommend. Considering it's a solo-developer project, it feels as if it's a bit of a passion project, so yes, if you like games like this, want to see it reach it's full potential, take the 10-15 bucks (depending on where you're from I guess) and buy it. Support your Devs. I don't regret this game, started over 3 times - once, because I didn't know what the heck I was doing, twice because I had a wonky start and the third time, because my RV was surrounde(a)d by Zombies and I could not move it, emtied the tank and then, in a battle royal style manor thought I could fight my way out. Wrong. I was trampled. Another reason to love this game: 1 Zombie - No problem! 2 Zombies - Okay. 3 Zombies - Watch your back. Don't let any surprise you. 4 Zombies - I hope there aren't more, Might run. Probably will run and approach again. Anything above: Be careful, backpedal, run... just don't let them surround you. All in all, I'm stopping myself from rambling any further now, I can only say: You enjoy games like this? Survival? Post-Apocalypse? Base Building? All that and more? Then grab it & enjoy!

  This is a tough review to write. Why? There's clearly the kernel of a really engaging game in there somewhere but as it is at the time of writing there are some real negative aspects to the game. I'm sure all or most will be fixed in time, but realist what you're getting in to if you buy now. Positives: + Charming low-poly graphics & art style. I love this art style and it's done really well here. + Decent tutorial for very basic game mechanics. + Nice big map to explore. + Some great environments. + Guns can be customised with sights, suppressors etc. + Nice ambient sound scheme. + Vehicles in which to store your stuff and get you around the map. + You can build your own base. Negatives: - Inventory management is a HUGE chore. Nothing auto-stacks making arranging your limited inventory space an absolute pain. Added to this is that while you're desperately trying to find space in your backpack for that shiny thing you just found, you're likely to be suddenly attacked. - Melee combat is a disaster. Hit boxes are all over the place, especially in relation to zombies that crawl. This results in always taking damage from crawling zombies before you can take them out. And with basic gear you take a huge amount of damage in melee combat. - Illogical game mechanics. Just one example - there are irradiated zones within the map. You can wear a respirator to protect yourself to some extent. So, you walk in to an irradiated zone. Cool, your respirator gives you 95% protection. Great, not taking any damage. Start to rummage through a couple of boxes, deciding what I can take with me. About 3 minutes later start taking massive damage and promptly drop dead. How does this even work? - If you save your game to go and do something, when you re-load later zombies will respawn around you. - Yes it's possible to build your own base. You'll need a load of wood for constructing palisades and similar. Can you chop down trees to harvest the wood? No. It has to be found, and finding anything appears to be entirely RNG based. - Bizarre controls. You have a melee weapon equipped. You might think that simply left-clicking would cause a melee attack. Nope. For some inexplicable reason it's necessary to hold down another key to 'enter melee mode' and then left click to attack. Why? This is pointless - if you have a melee weapon equipped then simply poking the attack key should actually attack. Who thought this was in any way a good idea? I could go on, but this is enough. Like I said, there's a kernel of a great game buried in there somewhere but there's just too many frustrating or poorly thought out game mechanics at present to make this actually fun to play. I'm going to keep an eye on this one and may come back in the future but for now I'll be requesting a refund. I wish the developer all the best but as it is now this simply isn't fun enough to make it worth my limited gaming time.

  Great game, super fun, lots of potential. When I started this game I couldn't stop playing it for hours. After playing both this game and DeadPoly I can safely say this game is FAR SUPERIOR to DeadPoly in every way except for not having a Multiplayer option yet. The movement, melee combat, gun play, sound effects, visual effects, the map, weather system, vehicles, base building, the music, even the tutorial, everything is just far superior.
