This is a classic underrated gem that I recently got around to finally playing. It hearkens back to the days when games were just focused on fun, not DLC or loot boxes. I will say that I thought this game had more to it than its cover, and in a way, it has some surprises, but otherwise its just what it says it is - you're a zombie, and you're hungry for brains! Tongue in cheek and full of crude humor, it takes nothing seriously. It's set in the late 50's in a retro-futuristic city of the future, Punchbowl, PA. You gnaw on the townsfolk, turn them to your side, and wreak havoc as only a bumbling, loveable salesman zombie can. You get some special attacks to mix things up, and the controls are pretty easy to get used to. The graphics of course are a bit dated as this came out in 2005, but the animations are still fairly solid, and the gore (for its time) is pretty impressive, if not over the top. I had a blast from start to finish, and I absolutely recommend playing this on the hardest setting (I think its Insane? But don't quote me on that). It brought a perfect balance and pacing, utilizing all your special attacks carefully just to stay alive. For you achievement hunters out there, its pretty easy to get close to 100%, but be forewarned, one of them is somewhat broken. Its called 'Crypto-currency' and it requires 2005 brains eaten. Normally its just a couple hours of grinding, but a bug will simply stop counting these at random. The only way to 'fix' it is to keep grinding away more until the counter decides to start working again. Let's just say I went through 4 full-length movies on Netflix and one on Amazon Prime Video on my other monitor while grinding away at this... Aside from that issue, I highly recommend this for some campy 50's zombie mayhem. Turn your brainsssss off and shuffle over to the Buy button on this one. Preferably during a sale, as it is somewhat short. Here's to hoping for a sequel or remake with current tech!

A diamond in the rough from a time when games were actually fun and not a second full time job where you need to grind out a battle pass every 4 months.

Dated but good game. Should definitely get a modern reboot with more fleshed out features. It's an old game so expect some PS2 Era jank

Ah, the late 2000s: A time in gaming where creativity was still the primary goal for developers. A time where if a company just wanted to say "Screw it! Let's make a tongue in cheek Comedy game" they just did. Of this period, two games stand out above the pack. The first was THQ's B-Movie spoof, "Destroy All Humans", and the other was this wonderful little piece of Horror-Comedy: "Stubbs The Zombie in Rebel Without A Pulse"! Now, 15 years on, it's back with a fresh coat of slime ready for a new batch of brain-hungry players. Playing as a wonderfully demented mashup of George Romero meets Ed Wood, players find themselves once more shambling through the saccharine sweet streets of Punchbowl Pennsylvania, the supposed city of the future where absolutely NOTHING can go wrong (yeah, right). As Stubbs, the titular door-to-dead salesman with a penchant for blondes and really ugly ties, fans can once more run riot through the American dream; upturning apple carts, gobbling grey matter and tearing off arms wherever they go. So, as you can imagine, the key word for this game is (and always has been) fun. Big, brash, gory, indulgent FUN. :D In terms of improvements from the original, the best update is the game play. In the original "Rebel..." the original Halo engine meant that it took our rotting Romeo a very, VERY long time to generate enough speed to progress effectively around the maps. This new version is far more spritely, making the action infinitely more fluid and enjoyable. There has also been a noticeable overhaul to the horde dynamics of the game. It's often easy to forget that "Stubbs The Zombie" is in-part a squad command title, and what a squad you can command here! By the end of the game's second level, players can now find themselves managing a horde of 15-20 strong undead, all dying to pick somebody's brains. When placed into an epic stand-off with the hostile human authorities, it can be a truly edifying spectacle indeed. Aesthetically, the graphics haven't really changed all that much from the original but still also manage to hold up in-game, even though the cut-scenes do seem a little dated in comparison. The soundtrack seems a bit lacking, however, given that a lot of the songs are remixed. This is especially the case with 50s hit "Earth Angel" which has been given a dance remix update. Fortunately this doesn't detract too much from the main game but it is a little bit of a downer. In short order, I don't really think I need to explain how much I recommend "Stubbs...". As one of the first zombie games to actually allow you to play the zombie instead of just the schmuck smashing them up, it is essential playing for all Horror fans (even if you only play it once) and an excellent complimentary title for more established Horror-Comedy titles like Capcom's "Dead Rising" series. - 4/5 stars

I had the original Steam release of Stubbs the zombie in my library for years but barely played it because it was a terrible port which didn't recognise controllers and it was a pain to get running on Windows 10. Then it got removed from Steam. I guess someone bought the rights to it because today completely out of the blue i see there's an update for this game and now it runs with zero problems and recognises my PS4 controller without having to remap a single button. It also now has Steam achievements and trading cards. If you own the old version of the game you get this version for free as well. That is awesome.

It's straight up Stubbs the Zombie. Not remade. Not really even enhanced. Just the old game ported to a modern OS with a few modern features we're used to. Runs well. Looks like it did. If you liked it then, you'll like it now. Edit as of beating it again: This game is rough. If you know EXACTLY what you're getting because you played it already years ago and you want that again, then yeah I recommend it. If you're in the mood for an old game that is as balanced as Master Chief fighting a lone Grunt? Then sure, go for it. If you want a fun time, don't. This game, even for 2005, is NOT well done. I forgot just how poorly balanced and full of BS this game is. It has its fun parts, and its humor, but so much BS that isn't just annoying by today's standards, but by 2005's as well. It's rough. If you already love it, great. If you don't.. then it might not be for you. After beating it all these years later I can tell you with 99.99% certainty that I will never play it again.

Plays really well and is a decent, if barebones, remaster but there's a pretty big issue; the music has been stripped out. There are a lot of parts in the game where there should be the 50s covers recorded for the game playing and they're gone, no more shambling into a diner and eating brains to There Goes My Baby on the jukebox. It's a little bizarre that you can buy the MP3 soundtrack to the game as a bonus but not be able to hear that same music ingame anymore. It might be a small issue to some but as someone who played it when it was first released and also bought the CD at the time from loving the ingame music so much, it's pretty disappointing that it's now stripped out. It really added a feel to the game. The remix versions remain in an essential part of the game that they couldn't strip for obvious reasons but that's all you get to hear of them now. Still, I'm glad it's here again and properly playable, but I feel a little disappointed.

VERY HAPPY that this game came back on steam. The original was delisted long ago on both 360 and PC/Steam due to a mixture of game rights at the time as well as technical issues. Making a game with the original Halo's engine is actually a LOT harder than it may look But boy oh boy does this game scream mid 2000s, and there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with that. And here's exactly how At it's heart, Stubbs the Zombie takes the concept of Destroy All Humans (both are parodies of horror and the 1950s and that kind of culture as a whole) takes the tropes and expected of many other games and films of that genre (i.e. there are TONS of games against aliens or against monsters and zombies and whatnot) and flips them upside down with some role reversal. And last but not least. There is TONS of black humor, tongue in cheek jokes, innuendos, and a few pop culture gags thrown in to create one hell of a ride that's campy, violent, and chaotic in the best ways possible. This is your standard re-release, modern "tweaks" to get it to run on modern systems and PCs, to small scale quality of life improvements, You can expect everything from trading cards, fixed bugs, achievements, some DLC in the form of the soundtrack and artbook, and getting this to work on modern PCs and consoles, from PCs of today to X1 and PS4 and Switch. But while these things aren't necessarily anything new, given that we (meaning fans) have been wanting to see this game come back in some shape or form for so FUCKING long it's not even funny, and this is a re-release I was MAJROLY happy about From dumb and cheesy dialogue as Stubbs chomps on human brains "STOP EATING ME PLEASE!" being one of my favorites to chucking his own regenrative innards as explosives, to a bowling head bomb and even the ability to drive a few zany vehicles and watch as ragdoll physics and giblets work their magic, and you've got yourself one crazy ass title that can be fun to even replay a level or two long after you beat the game My only complaint? Stubbs is really underrated and needs a sequel or an expansion of the brand in some shape or form Hopefully this re-release does well enough to get a sequel moving (Edit-Fitting and Ironic that of all steam rewards I get a "Mind Blown" award and its a picture of a brain)
