It's much shorter than its predecessor and tries really hard to mirror its success. Not much has changed in terms of gameplay, and the story does have some good cinematic moments but it does go by faster than I'd like. I like Jill as a protagonist but the real star of this game is Nemesis, even if it's very predictable as a stalker type of enemy. So I enjoyed it, it's good but not great.

Resident Evil 3 is an exciting remake of the 1999 classic. Players step into the shoes of Jill Valentine, trying to survive a zombie-infested Raccoon City. The graphics are impressive, and the gameplay is a mix of action and survival horror. The story is engaging, featuring the relentless Nemesis as the primary antagonist. While it may be slightly shorter and lacking in branching paths, it still offers thrilling replayability. Overall, it's a worthy addition to the Resident Evil series.

I have thoroughly enjoyed going through all of the Resident Evil games and the remakes thus far. This one is no different. This game is the most criticized of the modern remakes mainly because of cut content. I never played the original, so that doesn't really bother me. It does seem shorter than some of the earlier games in the series. This game is also much more linear than the games before it that I have played (RE 0, RE, RE2). You also revisit the police station that is in RE2, which is pretty cool. The graphics and sound are beautiful just like the RE2 remake. I didn't really have any issues with the game overall. The last boss on Inferno difficulty is a pain, but that's about it. Definitely recommend.

    h1> Resident Evil 3: Remake
    PROS CONS
RE Engine hitting on all cylinders There’s no way this game was worth $60
Action Packed Where are all the puzzles?
Pulled in by the “new” Jill Valentine Villains are annoying
    Minor hitstun issues
    Bugs and Issues Specs
    <*> N/A <*>AMD Ryzen 9 3900X <*>ASUS TUF RTX 4070Ti <*>32 GB 3600MHz RAM <*>2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD <*>1440p Settings
Content and Replay Value RE3 Remake is such a short game that it has plenty of replay if you want to go back and finish it faster. The only replay value is to play the game again and complete challenges. Completing challenges rewards you currency to a shop that allows you to get upgrades that can makes runs faster. What its missing compared to its predecessor is the alternative game modes that put a spin on the normal gameplay and even gave extra exposition to other parties involved.
Should you get it? Here’s one of my main issues with this game. After completing the game in 5.5hrs, I was in disbelief. I had to go back and see if this was a full price $60 game. It was. This game is beautiful. Not worth $60. Not even one of my favorite games ever (Hellblade Senua’s Sacrafice) was $60 at release and that game is a visual masterpiece and one of the best stories I had the pleasure to play through. I implore anyone wanting this game to only grab it on sale. Those wanting to complete their Resident Evil Remake collection go ahead, the capcom renaissance is real
Overall Verdict 7/10. RE3 did a great job of being a remake. Sadly I feel as though I understand the sentiment of this game being viewed as one of the weaker Resident Evil games. The story feels a little rushed and a way to cash in on success previous success. I clocked in my initial run at 5.5hrs which is great for the working adult! But this game is only worth it when on sale.
Setting & Writing: Resident Evil 3: Remake puts you in the shoes of Jill Valentine coming off the events of Resident Evil 1’s Spencer Mansion incident. Jill is determined to bring to light the events of the incident. Theres one issue though, her home of Raccoon City is in the process of being overrun by the T-Virus. Jills objective to escape the city in three days. Her plans get upended when she starts to get hunted by a bioweapon sent to kill the remaining members of the Spencer mansion incident. Throughout the game Jill tries to escape the city with the unlikely allies of the Umbrella Bioweapon Countermeasure Service (UBCS). The journey ends up divulging ulterior motives within the unit that make escaping the city that much more difficult. Jill Valentine’s only friend in the chaos is Carlos Oliveira who shares the same pure hearted goal of saving civilians and finding a cure to the T-virus before Umbrella Pharmaceuticals pull the unthinkable upon Raccoon City. Gameplay system & Bosses: RE3: Remake takes the same gameplay approach as RE2: Remake with the updated 3rd person over the shoulder view. The inventory system and how it works is all similar as well. What’s new in this iteration is the inclusion of a dodge button. And boy will you become friends with this button. A well-timed dodge rewards you with a perfect dodge that gives Jill I-frames and a slight speed boost to continue to get out of dodge. Perfecting the timing of this mechanic is key to speed runners and saves your life. This dodge is also important because this version of Resident Evil leans more into the action aspect of things. Because of this more zombies and other enemies are thrown at you in mass. This makes using the dodge button more pertinent. The lean into action was mostly felt during the boss fights of this game. They’re huge set pieces that feel fun and exhilarating. My issue with them was that they lingered to long. Yes, my nerves were shaking a bit when I had to figure out how to down the boss. But when I found out it felt to long taking me out of the atmosphere of horror that Resident Evil tries to build Quest, Mini-games & Challenges: RE3: Remake is mostly a linear game with some instances of backtracking. The puzzles in this iteration seem light compared to its predecessor. There are no minigames that accompany the game outside of collecting in game bobbleheads. Challenges come in the form of completing the game and completing challenges within subsequent runs. Completing challenges award you with currency that allows you to purchase upgrades to make the next run easier. Miscellaneous (art, music, etc.): The game shines here via the magic that is the RE: Engine. This game engine is the backbone of Capcom’s renaissance. Everything here looks beautiful. I’m a big fan on how they redesigned Jill Valentine and would love seeing this version of her going forward. Something that I miss is the sound of silence. RE2: Remake did a good job of making you feel alone within the police station. This uneasiness created a haunted atmosphere that made it frightening to move forward at times. That felt missing in this game because the scares happened more often through cutscenes than it did standard gameplay.

It's difficult to review this game without mentioning the RE2 remake, so I won't fight it. Compared to RE2, this game is very disappointing. RE2 started with the original game, built on it, modernized it, and made a definitive version that fits very well with what gamers expect nowadays, whilst still maintaining the spirit of the original. RE3 did the opposite. It wasn't very close to the original at all except for the basic premise. The story was different, the game route was different, MANY areas and bosses were cut (at least a third to half of the original game), and ALL puzzles were cut. The only puzzles present could be solved by a child and they basically give you the solutions anyways. There isn't any survival horror left, it's just a third-person shooter. You get more than enough ammo on Standard difficulty to kill everything in your way. I beat the game in 5 hours - and I was stopping to smell the roses. On top of being extremely short, there is basically no replayability either. Unlike RE2's Tyrant, this game's Nemesis is not dynamic. He shows up at the exact same places every time. In fact, the whole game is completely linear, with everything being the same every time. You can't even play as a different character or do a different route like in RE2. Once you've played it once, all there is to do is use points to buy helpful "boosts" in the in-game store, and play the same campaign over again. The visuals, music, sound effects, and characters were all good. Gunplay still feels tight like in RE2, and you will be doing a lot more shooting in this game, so it's good that it holds up. The Hunter Beta is a good reimagining of a classic enemy. The Hunter Gamma is pretty terrible, and defeating it is more a measure of how well you can shoot a flame grenade into its mouth before getting insta-killed than anything else. The Drain Deimos is not at all threatening, except in the VERY distasteful and unnecessary scene where it throat-****s Jill. All in all, the game is mediocre if you get it for $20 CDN / $15 USD. Do not buy it at full price. I have no doubt that the cutting of content and dumbing-down of gameplay was for the sake of finishing the multiplayer component. Nobody asked for that, and RE3 was - and still is - some RE fans' favourite in the whole series. I am very disappointed to see them treat the game this carelessly. They totally wasted the opportunity to remake a great game, most likely so they could push the microtransaction-riddled disaster that is RE: Resistance and make more money. Now there is no way RE3 fans will ever get to play a good remake. RE2 shows how to remake a classic game the right way. RE3 shows how to do it the wrong way.
