Game is simple, yet surprisingly fun. Difficulty is very well balanced starting out quite easy, but requiring for you to have a well defined combination of units and a clear tactic to beat the endgame. Has a in-game currency known as bloodshards earned each game depending on how far you get, allowing for progression as you play to get stronger. Well worth the price for the amount of fun you will have.

TLDR; Pretty fun game, definitely worth the price. The loop is pretty basic but the units and level ups provide some variety. If you like this kind of game you'll probably like this one. I'm only a few hours in but there are a few things I'd personally like to see as the game iterates over time: More variety in ranged units in the later tiers. I always end up with super melee heavy groups because I progress tiers quickly. Map variety and troop placement before a match. Maybe even placeable obstacles you can use to funnel enemy troops. I feel like I am hampered by the random movement of troops I can't control. Regardless, this is a fun little game that has tons of potential.

Why aren't there more of these types of games? If you ever played Desert Combat in Starcraft 2, or any similar game type, this is right up that alley.

Pretty good. I'd like to see endless expanded so some giant armys are possible.

So I basically completed this on the Brutal difficulty setting in 2 hours. As far as I can tell that's pretty much endgame for this right now, not much longevity here, then. You can usually win by ignoring spells entirely and rushing to tech 5, when you do, try to save up to unlock +1 tech 5 unit per roll, saving gold from earlier waves for bonuses help. At around level 25-30 just dump all your rolls into cyclops or frost giants, frost giants can freeze an ifrit which is helpful. If you have enough high tech units you win, give them health damage and lifesteal where you can afford. Dwarven constructs are nice too. What does this game need? Levels. It doesn't have enough enemy variety, not enough end game depth. It's a 5 dollar game though, so you probably get that value. I got mine on sale so I can't complain that much.

This game feels more like a novelty than a game. I'm not sure if its the lackluster balance where there are some incredibly bad options and some incredibly good options which cause your runs bleed together as you make the same choices. It could also be the lack of content, I'm aware that there are more difficulty levels but they don't fundamentally change how this game plays. Its possible I could be wrong on the later difficulties and if so I will update this review. This feels a lot like someone took the combat out of a bigger game, without the nuance of something that exists outside of these skirmishes it just feels unpleasant, simplistic, and tedious.

A phenomenal concept with decent execution.

It's a solid recommendation from me, I say absolutely buy this if you think you'd like it, or at least try the demo. This review is moreso for the developer than buyers, I'd just like to share my feedback. It's mostly mixed or negative feedback but I want to stress that I love the concept, it's addictive and fun, and with a bit of polish in the direction of player progression and quality endgame this could very well deserve a small price increase. I'll be playing a little more and I want to stress that I did very much so enjoy my time with the game. For buyers, please don't think of this as a scathing negative review. The demo shows you largely what you'll get with a few missing features like upgrades and some options, try that. The following points are honestly more stream of consciousness than structured review, it's probably not worth your time to read it, this is mostly my thoughts for the developer. The demo has all the information you'll need to make an educated buyer's decision. -Due to the game's low performance impact it's a shame there aren't more units on screen at any given time. Enemies come in little waves and the cap you'll see is maybe around 200-300 units at most, which doesn't actually feel like too much thanks to the overall scale of the game. My assumption was this was made with mobile in mind, which is completely valid. It would be satisfying to double the entire scale of the game. Double the units, double the radius and scale of spells like chain lightning and trying to keep the balance largely the same. Considering the biggest draw to this game is having two big armies fight, it feels like the armies don't get impressively big. -The "roguelike" aspect of this game is understated. You're capped on how many "shards" you can spend on upgrades, and upgrades are pretty pricey. You can buy roughly 1/3-1/2 of the upgrades from the shop before you are capped. It took me 4.6 hours to figure out what to build, reach cap and buy a few extra characters. -The upgrades you can unlock are small but expensive, increasing in price for reach rank. Things like "10% damage for melee or ranged", "10% health", "7% cooldown reduction", "start with 1/2/3/4 weak tier 1 units", a lot of these just aren't very impactful until you've reached the 1200 shard cap and can outright purchase 2-3 ranks of everything. My initial assumption was that endless mode would be designed for us to brick-wall at right away and be able to slowly overcome in time with upgrades and better game knowledge. This doesn't seem to be the case. Unless there's a cheese I'm unaware of, I can't imagine it's possible to get past endless wave 5. -Two upgrades are spells, both of which are niche. Neither count towards your shard cap on upgrades, but one doesn't feel worth it, and the other is too niche to buy unless you pick a specific commander. They're both practically useless because of the next point: -There's only a cap of 4 spells you can learn, two of which summon the best ranged and melee units in the game, one heal and one click chain lightning that lets you take out enemies that hold good positions (Wizards in the endgame are the strongest enemy, chain lightning instantly kills them and they will destroy your army no matter how much health you have if they hold the backline.) You also have access to a chain heal that grants huge damage resist to your units. It's hard to go with the other spells when these are so potent. The other spells have their use mostly, they're not terribly bad in the grand scheme of the design however when you're limited to four slots and three of them are essential it's hard to justify a CC when you could have 2-3 archangel spawns, 2-4 times in a round. -After 30 rounds you are no longer able to purchase upgrades and must play back-to-back rounds until you lose. At wave 29 you then reach "Endless" mode and fight the same wave over and over, with the stats of the wave rapidly scaling by 20% health and damage until you lose. No matter my setup I can't seem to get past Endless Wave 3. Buyers can feel free to ignore the rest of this review.

    Suggestions:

-Remove the shard cap on upgrades -Increase the number of spells, this would be a great shard upgrade. -A small nerf to spells wouldn't hurt in conjunction with more slots, they feel substantially more potent than most units in the current state. -Summon spells are without a doubt the most potent, versatile spells, but I don't think they need a nerf. Mostly because you can summon a pack of -An increased number of units on the field would offset a nerf to spells and would allow summons to remain largely as they are -I find the strongest way to play is to rush upgrading my spells to max before buying units, occasionally throwing in 1-2 health upgrades. If summons/heal/lightning doesn't come up I buy whatever upgrade gives the most gold, so I get a trickling of level 1 units alongside my archangels and giants, pool to 500 gold and never spend below it. Any other strategy pales in comparison and I theorize that increasing army sizes and the number of units you get as a reward at the end of a round slightly would offset the potency of spells and summons. -Because of the above, it's the fastest way to reach 500 gold while minimizing expenses and maximizing damage. -Flat out remove the bonus gold you get for saving up, maybe give a small extra bonus to gold for each wave completed like Bloons TD. This would emphasize bonuses for survival, not cheesing upgrades and waiting until the end to beef up your army -I find it barely worth it to upgrade army size, as tier 1-3 units are incredibly weak and 4-5 units come in small batches. Why upgrade to 100 units when 80 of them are going to be as potent as maybe five Tier 5's. Mid-tier units give some utilities like Priests but they're just not worth it when I could buy as many Archangels as I can, that heal without dying. -Display attack speed and dps of units, as well as factoring in damage upgrades when we view our units. Currently a lot of information is shown which is great, but in a game about planning, knowledge is power. -Allow permanence of movement speed settings for units so the user doesn't have to set them every time, it's a slow process that does not feel worth it aside from tier 5 units. -Friendly fire resist upgrade -Purchase abilities and earn gold past wave 20 -The demo lacks a few features the main game has like game speed and upgrade progression and this should at least be stated somewhere within the demo. If it wasn't for the incredibly affordable price point I wouldn't say it's worth it, but, at $4 or less, I'd say it's worth a try. I genuinely love the concept for this game.

TL;DR; An original auto-battler. A hidden gem for less than £5. Coming out of the game, after playing for 2 evenings and 2 nights. I am utterly impressed at how ENGAGING the game was, and yet it's so simple. I haven't had this feeling since I first discovered Tetris or 2048 or half-life or slay the spire a long time ago. The gameplay is perfectly on point. Kudos to the few sound effects. My wife turned when I started wiped swarms of the green monsters (and I've been slaughtering them as audibly as possible ever since, to catch her attention :D ). Graphics have a 90s feel (or poor student project feel). Personally, I almost ran away after seeing some menu screenshots with blurry pixel art, typical sign of the $1 scam games that plague Steam. Make no mistake, it's a real game, it's great, the UI is optimized and very-well animated if a bit "raw". There's a variety of units, spells and strategies to try. Expect to see pretty much everything within 10 hours. Replayability is limited. The game has extra difficulty levels and adjustable modifiers (health/damages/range/etc...). You could stretch the playtime if you're a completionist but it will get really repetitive. There's ample room for new game modes to be added, ascension, campaign, sandbox, daily challenges, etc... To conclude. Strongly recommend to buy the game if you're any interested. There's a demo available. Be aware that the demo is a gross early version with limited units, which was not apparent to me at all, the final game is far better. P.S. I suspect the other reviews who report beating the game in 1 or 2 hours have enabled the modifiers for +40% health and damage. There's no need to stack modifiers to beat the game.

This is the most fun you will ever have for a game at this level of simplicity. Can't stop playing it. The units, spells and upgrades are very well designed and balanced around an auto-battler arena. Dropping a summon at a far end of the arena to eke out a close win is very satisfying. Lots of potential for development.
