  This is such a beautifully made thoughtful story. I ugly cried through the entire thing. This story captures so many aspects of grief so well. Having lost my own mom last year and having to go through all her things... I saw so many of my own thoughts, my own feelings, reflected in this game. There is some comfort in knowing others understand your grief, in seeing your experiences understood. If you've gone through a deep loss, this is a very heavy game, but I think you'll find echoes of your own loss in it. It's clear Hindsight was developed with a lot of love, and I deeply appreciate the creators sharing this with others.

  Narrative heavy, gameplay light interactive story... very akin to A Memoir Blue. If you like games of that ilk, check this out. Should run you right around 2 hours. Nice art, nice voice acting, really touching story of loss and reflection. Also, if you finish this in under 2 hours, don't be one of those jerkfaces who refunds!

  This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review for a game. I should work on improving that, but I hope this serves as a testament of how much I enjoyed this. It's just a very, very touching narrative, woven together in such a poignant way it was almost hard to continue at times. Hard to face. But I had to. It's difficult to write this because there's so much I want to say, but I don't want to spoil the story. I guess I'll say that this is a story not just about grief but about the hard part of grief. And yet, it is kind. The kindest way such a hard message could be delivered. Gameplay-wise, the game is beautiful visually and the gameplay is very intuitive. Very enjoyable. I can't really comment on the gameplay much more beyond that, but if you love stories and writing, I really recommend you play this. Really wonderful showcase on writing about difficult topics (game credits Emma Kidwell as the writer so, if they are reading this, thank you and also damn you for reminding me I'm a cry baby). Really really recommend it.

  Although I found the narration sometimes a bit on the nose and the navigation mechanic a tad gimmicky, I really enjoyed those 2 hours spent in Hindsight. The theme of the story (a daughter coming to terms with her mother's death while emptying her house) is original and interesting, some scenes are really beautiful and it's a memorable experience. There should be more games like this one, that you can play through in an evening and that stay with you for quite a long time afterwards.

  With so many story driven interactive experiences and story exploration titles around nowadays videogames are covering many topics and themes in various ways. Hindsight takes a form of something like an interactive photo album with a really cool visual style and a story about loss and grief. But for how pretty it is, playing it isn’t particularly enjoyable. This title was clearly developed for a touch screen control and I wouldn’t be surprised if there it feels somewhat more enjoyable to play. With a mouse, however, it is often a rather frustrating experience even if you crank up the camera movement at least by a quarter up. You see – the gameplay process of Hindsight is you flying through small freeze frame-like scenes with the ability to rotate the camera around. And when I say the ability, i mean the requirement, because to progress to the next scene you have to find a particular hotspot to click. And that hotspot can sometimes only exist when you rotate the camera to a certain angle. This looks cool, but in practical terms means that to “turn the page” you have to drag your mouse around until you find an angle that the developers consider correct that let’s you proceed further. And while in some cases that angle is visually tied to the perspective of the scene, most of the time it seems completely arbitrary and existing just so players have “stuff to do” because “it’s a videogame you see”. When not being frustrating to go through, the title tells a story well enough, but here I feel that it might click for some and not for others. For me, for example, it didn’t – partially because the whole narrative is very “being stuck in the past is good”, partially because it speaks of very “growing up in US” experiences that are entirely alien to me. But I could easily see others liking the story and connecting with what it’s going for. And it is told in a nice and stylish way. If Hindsight didn’t try so desperately to add interactivity for the sake of interactivity, I feel that I would’ve enjoyed it more. And even though I didn’t connect with the story at all, it would’ve at least led to a far more enjoyable experience through someone’s life with pretty visuals.

  This game is absolutely beautiful from beginning to end. It's insightful, heart-wrenching, and relatable in surprising ways. The story is artfully told, accompanied by a soundtrack fit for cinema. Don't let the seeming simplicity of Hindsight fool you; this game is deep and I know I'll be thinking about it for a long time.

  I am obviously not the type who plays games like this. I am a bear. I do bear things, like mauling people, liberating picnic baskets and sometimes breaking into cars because people leave Mars bars in them, and no, don't start joking how this is unbearable. No, I'm not the one who ruined that woman's canoe in that one viral video. How dare you. Anyway. I wouldn't call this a game. It's an interactive story. Took me 3 hours to finish. And let me tell you... The game is gorgeous, the art style just fits. The story? Well... There are too many moments in this where I thought "Who the hell was reading my mind and stealing some elements of my past when writing this?" The one scene where protagonist talks about college. I almost threw my banana at the screen. No, that's not a euphemism. I mean a real banana. I just went "get out of my head!" Because that's literally me back in 1995. There are these moments where I could see myself as the protagonist. That is brilliant, but also a wee bit scary. And the mechanics? What they do with the camera, how it reveals the next scene, crafty and smart. I love it. Sometimes it makes you feel like you're in a David Lynch movie. I bought this on the recommendation of a Twitter acqaintance and she said I won't regret it. She was right. I did not regret this. Yes, it's short at 2-3 hours, but 100% worth the price IMHO, since the experience is spot on. Going to buy the soundtrack, too, because it's fantastic.

  Another beautiful game from Annapurna that reminded me a lot of A Memoir Blue and What Remains of Edith Finch . It has a thoughtful well-written story that will resonate with a lot of people. Its core mechanic of diving into objects to explore memories is absorbing and immersive, and the soundtrack is successful at evoking empathy. While the price tag may be a little steep for around 2 hours gameplay, it remains a thought-provoking game that is undoubtedly a worthwhile endeavour.
