About the Game

Overview:

SCP: Blackout is a Desktop/VR game coming out on Steam in Summer 2019. It is a surreal horror game with a branching narrative. As a new D-Class transferred to Site-50, you must decide what you want to do as you navigate through the facility trying to survive various malicious SCP entities, determining what choices to make, and collecting pieces of the story to truly understand what is going on.

In the story mode (Not yet available in Early Access), as you play you can listen to Dr. Millar or Dr. Slate, each with their own motives and goals. Each choice and path you make affects the facility and playthrough, leading to many different possible endings. Each time you play, more of the story will be uncovered, and maybe the best choices aren’t the ones so obviously presented.

For quick action an hard-core horror filled fast rounds, you can try the Survival Gamemode, where you are dropped in with the full facility to explore and escape from with smaller story with Dr. Harman.

Features:

  • VR (Vive and Oculus) OR normal desktop.

  • An immersive horror atmosphere.

  • Branching narrative with semi-rouge-like features to ensure every play through is different.

  • Different story lines resulting in eight different endings.

  • Choices that impact the game world itself, rewarding or punishing the player for their actions.

  • Over 10 SCP monsters to learn and evade.

  • Different back stories on SCPs to collect and learn about through written, audio, and computer logs.

  • Secondary story arcs and mysteries to uncover about the site, the true motives of Dr. Slate and Dr. Millar, and more.

  • Multiple gamemodes.

  • Tons of secrets to uncover and keep you busy and guessing.

If I could get a refund for this game I would, developer seems to have abandoned the game. Latest update was the soundtrack for this game, and some garbage excuses. Cannot recommend, only played 52 minutes, and it is a mess. Don't even bother starting a game if you are not going to dedicate, and finish developing the game. Guy has his priorities all screwed up. You have had plenty of time to push some good content yet this is another failure, and this is the kind of stuff that makes people not want to a take a hit on early access games.

Falsely advertised at the time of writing this, the VR for this game has not worked for over a year, at least not for the Valve Index, if you were looking to buy this game with the intention of playing this in VR, don't the controls do not work, you cannot move or press any buttons in game... I even went to the discord server for this game to ask if it was going to be fixed after a year of this not being resolved only to be told to wait even longer, I did join the discord a year ago to ask the same question when the issue with VR came about, only to be told it is being looked into. Disregarding the fact that the game did not have good performance in VR back when it did work, running the game on a I7 9700k and a RTX 2080 TI, with 16GB of RAM and also installed on a brand new SSD at the time and was unable to get over 20 FPS on the lowest settings only to then have an update break the game completely... Yes, you COULD play it in desktop and probably have fun, but they really should remove the VR support from the store page as the game is NOT playable in VR, at least not on the Index (cannot test other headsets as I do not own any others anymore) Spent my only 2 hours on this game troubleshooting performance issues, and booting the game up to see if VR controls work, only to find out, no, they still do not work..

Minimal updates, still waiting on story mode that was promised so long ago. Honestly don't buy this, it barely qualifies as being apart of the scp universe. Started off great but its a borderline cash grab at this point, dot waste your time as the devs seem to have abandoned it.

It was an instant buy, and instant worth-your-money xk-class scenario for me. Got this game as it just dropped about 20-30 minutes ago, very happy with it. I believe the dev's will do a great job with this game, their hard work shows very well. A great game built by great devs and with great voice actors, what more could you ask for? Heh, Volgun is so cool, I cant help but watch his SCP videos all the time, so glad to see him out in about in an SCP game.

SCP:BLACKOUT is alright in its current state and while It still has its flaws, keep in mind that the game only released today and is still in severe early access. I personally beleive they should've used the unity engine to run this game rather than unreal but, that's a developers choice . I feel the 20 dollar price tag wasn't needed for launch but Ill'd also like to think of it as investment for the continued development of the game. In the end its up to you to decide whether or not to get it. After all there are other SCP games like containment breach( and the unity remake which I might say is better than the original ), SCP-3008: Lone Survivor , and many others ;However, this is the only SCP game that thinks outside of the box and puts itself in a new and dangerous territory not charted by any SCP lore or cannon before it. In the end Ill'd give this game a 8.5/10 for its originality and concept. EDIT: still getting better and better

I do not recommend this game in its current state. $20 for only a survival mode, which is more like a demo, is not okay. The game is certainly scary and I like the concept of developers creating their own SCPs for a game like this. However, all the SCPs in this game seem to suffer from "the thing that kills you" trope. It may just be because I could only play the survival mode and the story will have more build up, but the SCPs lack the build up other horror games have. The AI doesn't help any of it either. I can never tell if an SCP is running after me or is just going to run into another wall again. I suggest you wait for this game's price to drop or come out of early access.

i loved every idea of it! like an actuall scp game in VR! but the only thing i really didnt like is the random spawning black ghost or whatever it is (i havent played it enough). it doesnt feel like an scp or that ghost thing crawling on the ground, i took my time to check every corner or reading carefully and they pop out of every corner, they are not scary whatsoever :l when you encounter something really creepy, like a hanging dude with a rope attached to the ceiling, that was creepy af. i slowly approached it and what happened? those black ghosts appear out of nowhere and slapped me again, what took every spooky part of it away .-. i wanted to investigate the hanging dude i want to feel safe behind doors, but you know i have to move forward! but i dont feel safe anywhere when those black figures appear everywhere, even where i stand, they spawned between my legs. Frustrating Id like those creatures if they appear in an area, where they have been contained or so, and not everywhere :l also i dont like the flashlight concept, it drains waay to fast and you can barely see anything, what also makes it not scary anymore because it was frustrating to keep my goddamn flashlight alive hhhhGHh - so i was more mad then scared those things are the only thing that bothers me, otherwise i love everything about the game.
