Rocketbirds 2 Evolution Panimula

The “most interesting chicken in the world” is back in his first sequel Rocketbirds 2: Evolution, where Hardboiled Chicken gets entangled in a mysterious and sinister penguin plot in “Part 1: The Cockup”. Meanwhile, the pint sized budgie commandos are forming a strike force of great magnitude in “Part 2: The Rescue”, where players need to rescue and recruit hostages from deep behind enemy lines. Both parts can be played in or out of order, but converge to complete the full Evolution story.

Players will engage in nuanced, side-scrolling, shooter action as they face an assortment of evil penguins, space owls and other fowl creatures while strapping on jetpacks and wielding new, powerful weapons of ‘de-clucktion.’

Key features of Rocketbirds 2: Evolution include:

• Cinematic platforming, action-adventure game with light puzzle elements and Jetpacks in Part 1: The Cockup

• Over 100 upgradeable weapons, costumes and stackable characters to unlock in procedurally generated missions in Part 2: The Rescue

• Part 2 also features 1 - 4 player online / offline / drop-in / drop-out cooperative features and a PvP mini game

• Original soundtrack by New World Revolution

Rocketbirds 2: Evolution puts you - once again - in control of Hardboiled Chicken after the events of the first game. This sequel is a drastic improvement, fixing what were the weak points of the previous title (while being more focused on run 'n' gun shooting), and for that, it's a great indie title that shouldn't be missed. However, I do miss a few things that were present in the first game. + Rocketbirds 2 finally lets you aim freely in every direction with a much greater variety of weapons at your disposal, from ordinary assault rifles to laser guns. + Artstyle is the same from the first game, but switched to 2.5D; a mix of lighthearted humour and serious atmosphere in very detailed environments. + Godlike soundtrack by "New World Revolution", bringing Science Fiction Rock to every moment of the game. + Full-fledged boss fights and many different types of enemies will keep you on your toes 'till the end. + A separate, replayable co-op story mode featuring procedural levels, more weapons and the ability to earn and spend credits for general upgrades. Playing this mode solo with stackeable teammates is also possible. - Occasional frame drops and shoddy netcode. - Rolling, frag grenades and cover system from the first game didn't carry over to this sequel.

Rocketbirds 2 takes everything the orginal done and amplifies it tenfold. Amazing artwork accompanied by a memorable soundtrack that give the game an overall vive. the main meat of the game is divided into two parts. Part One is a solo adventure in a similar vein to the first, though slightly longer in length. The boss battles and enemy personalities really added to the excitement. Part Two serves as an introduction to the multiplayer, although it can be played solo, which I done. You go on a series of search and rescue missions while earning money to purchase weapons, upgrades, and cosmetics. This part added alot to my overall gametime and only slightly felt repetitive at times. It helped that solo players are given the option to hire an AI partner to assist. My only complaint about this two part system is that I felt the ending of part two's "story" was incredibly anti-climatic and felt like a regular level, which of course is intentional as you can continue playing and upgrading; However I would have loved to have seen one final epic encounter. That being said, the ending of chapter one was very exciting and in some ways nostaglic (reminded me of some nes and snes classics) Overall I definitely recommend, especially if you enjoyed the first.

I feel really disappointed about this game, I loved the original Rocketbirds game, I bought it in a point and time in my life in which I was trying every game that caught my eye, every game that I found even remotely interesting, I would try, and of the bunch, the original Rocketbirds remained one of the most memorable ones, which is why I bought it again for Steam after moving from console to pc. So naturally I was anticipating this one for some time, out of nowhere it seem to come out, and get ported from Ps4 to pc at a later release, similar to the original one. I decided, since the game never seems to go on sale, to "bite the bullet" so to say, and ended up purchasing it at full price. The game has two game modes, one which is the story mode, and another which is a more co-op oriented mode, that can also be played alone offline. Of the two, I enjoyed a heck of a lot more the Rescue mode (the co-op oriented mode). This is a mode in which the player is given several missions, usually within the same vicinity, but with a different level design altogether that require him, or her, to rescue hostages, or collect relics that are scatered around the levels, etc... Along the way you'll fight a series of enemies with your arsenal of weapons which in that mode you can customize at any time, each time you also beat an enemy in said mode, you get money, that then you can spend in either upgrading your weapons, or armor. This is a new system that has been added to the game, and it is present on the story mode, but sadly in it, it is secluded to your own progression through the story rather than giving the player the freedom to customize, and upgrade its own equipment. This is a problem because a lot of the stats of each weapon seem a bit... Arbitrary, there isn't really a good way to compare each weapon, or each weapon class, and decide which one do you prefer, whether it is, because its superior than the one you're already using, or simply because you want to change your playstyle. At the very least in the Rescue missions you get the chance to upgrade certain weapons up to a point where they become clearly useful tools in the "management" of the hordes of enemies you'll be facing throughout each mission. But in the story mode this is a terrible issue, because you're constantly getting weapons that simply don't seem to be better than the ones you already have, and unless you're willing to try each of them separately to make up a decision, this ends up being something disappointing at that. Then there's the overall character, pacing, and general personality, of the characters, of the world, and of the game. I loved the original game because of its charisma, each character had an amazing level of personality attached to it, and it was unique, some characters didn't even speak, and that added to the charm of the game, some of them did, and when they did, it was always something laconic but unique because of it, it was enjoyable and fun. In this is used as a tool to make the attempt at telling a story that i'm not sure if it's taking itself seriously, or not. Or maybe simply they didn't have clarity about what they wanted it to be. The puzzles have also suffered... A lot. The original game's puzzles where simple, and I liked them as such, surely the process in which you complete them was tedious, but it was comprehensible at that. In this one it is similar, but at times its as if the entire level its one big maze in which you need to backtrack, constantly going back and foward in order to complete certain objectives, and usually the puzzles, like the original, don't involve anything other than placing certain objects in specific places, and then waiting for doors to open. It is the same this time around, but the process in which you complete this, and progress through the level seems a lot more restrictive, and tedious to complete. The second mission of the game in its entirety its a escort mission, in which you need to carry, and to ensure the safety of a character that you'll have to, for the most part, literally carry behind your back through the entire level. It doesn't restrict you in combat, nor does it hinder your movement, but at times it is annoying when some enemies managed to "knock" him from my back, and proceded to shoot him repeatedly until he died, forcing me to restart. The pacing its another thing that they managed to destroy. The game goes constantly from action sequences in which you fight a lot of enemies in a room, to simply fighting boss battles (which usually involved doing exactly the same) up to just trying to find your way out of the "maze-like" levels the game has. As positives, I guess the world of from the original its still there to a degree, the game's characters, references to real life events from wars, or from what you would expect would happen if a game as absurd and as crazy as this one would end up resembling similarities to day, to day life, it's still there. It is satisfying, and enjoyable to see it, aesthetically the game sacrificed it's original art style for a more "modern" approach, they've renderised in a way a series of 3D sprites, i'm not sure how to describe it, but I personally don't resent its new "look" the game looks fine, and it also, controls well, even if the weapon system its terrible. One of the main complaints I had with the original game was how every single tiny action that you would make in that game would have to be annoying, or tedious to perform, everything from controlling elevators, to shooting (which was restricted to straight shots without any sort of freedom for verticality or aiming in any other way for that matter), to simply even moving your character. It was as if you had to wait for the game to allow you to perform each action before you could actually do it. In this one the whole movement, and gunplay, systems have been redesigned to offer a lot more freedom. You can double jump, control the height of each jump, control where to shoot, you can now do this freely, and aim at whathever direction you'd like. It feels great, and in this regard I don't really have a problem with the game. As I said, also, the rescue missions are fun, they offer freedom, unlockables, and even the ability to play as the main protagonist after you unlock him, so it is an enjoyable mode that I would go as far as to say, serves as a "replacement" of sorts for what the story mode could have been. Besides that, this is a very disappointing game story wise, it seems to me as if the developers made the attempt at adding depth, and complexity to each and every single one of the aspects of the original game, it is as if they went the complete opposite way from the last, because the last game seemed, to me, it was all about simplicity, simplicity in puzzles, in gunfights, in movement, in level progression, everything just seemed straightfoward, which it isn't to say that was better. But I think it was better designed, I don't know if it's because maybe they approach it more carefuly, and as such, the execution of the ideas they had for the last game, ended up being something truly special, and unique. Both gameplay wise, and story wise. But in this case it seems to me as if this is a sequel that keeps jumping between a series of ideas that don't really connect with each other, this shouldn't have come out as a sequel, but rather as an added game to the franchise, with only the Rescue mode being available, the story mode for me it's silly at best, in its narrative, it seems like a futile attempt in continuing a story that was already complete, every line of dialog, every event, seems forced to me. Gameplay wise, while the game showcases improvements, the gunplay is simply to dependendant of a system that doesn't make that much sense, and it isn't explained, nor implemented in the main campaing mode, in a good way. If there was a mixed rating I would give it to it.

I really liked the first game but this one is a disappointment. Fps drops, laggy backgrounds, bad aiming and mechanics, even the graphics looks bad according to the first one. Don't play it whatever the price this is come to.

The first one was great, with a cool coop campaign. But this time, no coop campaign and the gameplay is really slow. They took away everything that was fun in the game, trying to make it more subtle, but to me, it just feels boring.

It feels like the devs have kept everything that made the first one enjoyable intact. Good controls, lighthearted humor, nice artwork - winning combo in my book. And right now they give you the first game free with a purchase. Honestly, can't beat it if you are new to these developers' work. The 'stacking' mechanic in part 2 is giving me flashbacks to Serious Sam DD with the amount of options that could be possible. However, part 2 becomes kind of a grind to progress as far as I can tell, with some of the artifact parts being randomly spawned in levels. After repeating the same set of map pieces for the dozenth time and you don't get that final piece (or any piece), it gets old pretty quickly; despite all the gun upgrade options. If you are looking to play MP with your friends, just pick it up and you'll likely have fun. If you are playing it solo like me, you may want to wait for at least a 50% sale, since part 1 might be the only part you'll like.
