  Disclaimer

  I tried every character and a few songs from each category before reviewing.

  TL;DR

  If you like the base Muse Dash, which is dirt-cheap, you can buy this to unlock all the content as well as much more songs than there are in the base game, with even more songs coming in on a monthly basis.

  PSA

  A lot of new songs are a bit more difficult from what I’ve noticed. In base game I would unlock master difficulty just by playing each song once. In DLC there are some songs that I have to replay several times on normal to finally unlock master and master itself felt really difficult. I’d say that a lot of DLC songs on normal level feel the same as most base songs feel on master. This could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on if you want more challenge and higher skill-ceiling or not, so I don’t include this point in pros/cons section. I’m pretty sure that easy mode is still pretty easy, so even if you just want to chill and play a relaxing game then you should be able to do so with most, if not all songs in this DLC.

  Description

  When describing a piece of DLC I would normally list what it contains compared to the base game, but since there are more song packs delivered monthly – I can’t really list all the future ones that appear after putting this review out. If you have the base game, then you can see in the menu which songs are locked to music packs. All of those music packs will be instantly unlocked the moment you purchase this DLC and all future music packs will also be unlocked automatically (according to the DLC’s description). There are also some exclusive characters that can only be obtained by buying this DLC. Those are all the characters you can see without their respective key-items on the character selection screen. As far as I can tell all the characters that do have their key items can be unlocked by getting those items through leveling up.

  Pros:

  + A lot of content More songs come in at the rate of 6 per month, with sometimes new characters being added as well, like in the DJMAX Respect update for example, which added El Clear as a playable character on top of adding new songs. I don’t know for how long these updates will continue, but currently there are 48 song packs (according to wiki) with 6 songs each, giving a total of 288 songs in this DLC at the moment of writing this review. This is on top of the 52 songs included in the base game for a whopping 340 total songs. That’s a lotta music and a lot of enemies to swat at. Note that this is just my calculations based on what’s written on the store page and the wiki – I didn’t scroll through to count every single song individually, so the number may be off. Feel free to correct me down in a comment under the review if that’s the case. From what I’ve seen so far the quality seems to be on a satisfactory level for me. It’s obvious that with this many songs you will have some that you like and some that you don’t, but there is still a lot of variety. Pop, pop-rock, electronic music, some covers or anime/game OST – if you like what others describe as “weeb music” then you’ll find something to like here. + A few new characters The characters are all incredibly cute and the splash arts are nicely animated for both successful and failed songs. Their skills are hit and miss for me, some seem much better than the others. I still like Marija Little Devil and Magical Girl Marija the most, and, both of them are in the base game – no DLC required. Let me tell you though – Little Devil be hot, but damn - she difficult. Unless you play at the highest difficulty setting and also play near perfectly – you’re gonna die. Out of DLC characters I think I like Reimu the most. While her skill isn’t anything special, her animations are very expressive and smooth. + Song-specific graphics Some songs will have their own little graphical gimmicks, like Bad Apple! - a popular Touhou song – is entirely black and white to emulate it’s famous music video. Don’t expect every song to have such features though – most of them are vanilla.

  Cons:

  - Instantly unlocks all base characters and pets (elfins) The only downside of getting this DLC. Normally you have to earn characters and elfins by playing and leveling up in game. Before buying this DLC I didn’t have Little Devil unlocked yet, which was my main goal, but after buying this package – she was instantly unlocked. I was sad that I couldn’t earn her by myself anymore, but at the same time – I could just go ahead and start playing her. So it’s up to your preference if you like obtaining stuff ingame or not. Illustrations are still being unlocked by playing – DLC doesn’t unlock them instantly, so at least you can work for those if that’s your jam.

  Lowdown

  If you like the base Muse Dash then there’s no reason not to get this DLC. You can judge yourself if the amount of songs per $ is right for you – it certainly was for me. I'd give this DLC a nice

  UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL THE GAME it'll fix the DLC issue. Pero u should put this in the game notes instead of only on discord

  If you're missing the `Just as Planned` DLC, delete the "debug.log" file. No clue as to why this happens but this DLC is very much worth the asking price. Bought it years back, with it sometimes even going on sale; and it always gives back MORE than what I initially got it for, each and every so often I open this game. Would be a shame to have people get away from this from a weird file bug.

  I lost access to the DLC after the recent update. However, deleting the 'proxyImpl.log' file from "Steam > steamapps > common > Muse Dash" resolved this issue, and I have access to the DLC again. I also deleted the 'debug.log' based on someone else's suggestion, so I'm not sure if it was also necessary or not. Hope this helps! <3

  I spent $30 on this just for the Touhou music. I saw Halozy music and that instantly put a smile on my face and validated my purchase. Thank you. Also Bad Apple.

  Dear PeroPero, thank you for providing us Muse Dashers this wonderful DLC filled with new content every update. I n my honest opinion you DEFINITELY need this DLC or you will be missing 90% of what the game truely has to offer you (new heroines to play as, new elfins, collabs and illustrations, songs etc.). This DLC is a NECESSITY for Muse Dash and it's a pretty reasonable price for a rhythm game. Regular updates provide this gem of a DLC it's undying value/bang for your buck with new content every update. #MuseDash4Life. P.S. the base game and the DLC alone is a better investment then FTX. RIP FTX investors. P.P.S. if you want to gain all the steam achievements you will need to buy the DLC.
