  It makes me really sad that one of the best Run and Gun series of all time consistently gets the worst treatment on Steam. This has to be the worst one yet.

  Got it again after the patch. It's actually a lot better now since you can change the keyboard binds and the screen. Now, can we please have Metal Slug Anthology on PC?

  As you can see, there are a lot of old reviews on Steam about this game, warning everyone about how a disaster the port is. If you are wondering how the game runs after all this time and numerous patches, then let me inform you: IT'S HORRIBLE OH MY GOD EVEN DOTEMU DID A BETTER JOB, AND THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR GAROU'S PC VERSION NOT EVEN WORTH BUYING AT %90 OFF RUN AWAY FROM IT AND DON'T LOOK BACK The problems start the moment you run the game from your Steam client. It shows you a barebones launcher that only lets you set the window size to be either borderless fullscreen or one of the 4 pre-defined windowed resolutions, or to change the keyboard controls. THAT'S IT. You cannot even set the game to run at standard resolutions such as 720p because it's not included in the aforementioned pre-defined list! And after that, a variety of issues welcome you; from numerous crashes to desktop, to severe fps issues and massive stuttering upon starting gameplay. To add a cherry on top, the game even has audio distortion problems, especially in the options screen or whenever it drops frames. And I haven't even talked about the best part. According to the game's update history on SteamDB, it's been months since the last update, meaning the developers at SNK have completely abandoned their broken game and you cannot even hope that the problems are going to get fixed. If you really want to play this game, get it on consoles or emulate it. It will run way better than the port we have here.

  work like a charm on steam deck with fullscreen resolution, it doesn't match the previous metal slug's but every entry in the series is welcome , worth it for every ms fan. ps: if you are on steam deck you need to add this to the launch option for the game to work: force_compat_shaders=true %command%

  I like Metal Slug but please, there is no key binding change? Control change is only applied to controllers? What is the key for at least "back"? I pressed ESC and all it did was exiting the program. My god you guys need to fix this. I will change my review if this is fixed first. Till then I do not recommend this product.

  Wow it really is a shockingly bad port. The key bindings (which you can only access from the launcher not the in game menu) don't even say what they do, they're mapped to console functions e.g. X Y A B L1 with no descriptions... First game I've ever refunded and I have a very low bar.

  All you need to do to fix the game is.

  1. Go to your MSXX Steam folder and Change the .exe properties to run the game as Windows 8 Compatible. DON'T RUN this game as an Administrator. 2. Use an Xbox Controller, if you don't have one. Use XOutput to emulate your controller into Xinput. Or Xpadder to emulate it into keyboard layout. After that, turn OFF Steam Input 3. Speaking of keyboard layout. There doesn't seem to be any issue. Map it on the launcher.

  Why Metal Slug XX is 7/10?

  - Well, its a PC port of the PSP version. The port is terrible because there are bunch bugs that prevent everyone from playing it. I recommend SNK to do something about this, but since its a VERY old game, I don't think SNK will do anything. - Gameplay design is average compare to the other Metal Slug games. Still a better game than MS5 (Even though my favorite game is MS5 lol) - Settings Menu runs at the very terrible 3-5 FPS - Amazing cast, especially Leona with her amazing Knife skill. - Short but reasonable. - Few variation of enemies compare to other MS games. - After fixing the game's bugs. It's completely playable. - Just enjoy the game, if its suck. It suck. Don't expect Metal Slug 3 quality on this entry.

  It is a broken port. I had to run it in compatibility mode for Windows 8 to get it to start. Then it ran alright, except when going to the Options and Ranking menu, where the music became laggy, if that's the right word, it was as if there were too many things on the menu and the music had to be cut in half. I've never seen that in a modern game. Anyway, I'm use to Metal Slug 7 (the original version of this game) and I don't really care for some of the upscaled art. I wish there was an option to shift between the two. Character selection seems shafted, no more green highlights when selecting a character (shafting the humor of character selection seems to be a theme among the Steam Metal Slug releases.) Ranking isn't even tied to online, which is just weird to me. People are upset that devs haven't released a promised patch to fix these issues. I don't want to refund it cause the game is playable and I like this particular Metal Slug. But you shouldn't buy it. Don't even buy it if you want Metal Slug 4, 5, and 6 on Steam.

  The game refuses to run by default on Windows 11. It seems to launch when compatibility is set to Windows 8 with administrator privileges. Once the game passes the intro, controls do not work. On the language selection screen the game seems to get continuous up or down controller input making the game uncontrollable. The only input which works is the escape key and the steam refund button.

  How could a Metal Slug game be so bad and badly ported? DO NOT BUY the game yet. I LOVE Metal Slug games, but i can solely give negative review to this game because ESC button just literally closes out the game with no prompt! You press CTRL to go back in a menu... WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? I was checking some cards in my inventory to make a badge, then this magical coupon appeared out of nowhere; 20% off of Metal Slug XX. Wait what? There is a new game? OMG OMG OMG. Crap it's NOT even on the steam yet. few minutes later, game is on steam. I never do but I rush to buy the game, what could go wrong? I loved all other Metal Slug games. Oh boy was I wrong.
