Aside from enjoying this game immensely, and now being able to enjoy it alongside my child, the 2.0 release happening at the same time as LEGO The Skywalker Saga has made me think: Hydroneer's tiny dev team may have not been able to deliver "full" multiplayer, but they have been honest and upfront about this and keep in constant contact with their players. Meanwhile WB Games and TT Games massive dev team dropped features at the last minute that they had previously promised, released a heavily bugged game and haven't patched or communicated with their players for weeks. I know which I prefer - which is why Hydroneer gets thumbs up from me. Remember, a thumbs up for a developer that has the respect to update their community, despite their trials is a thumbs up for good dev-player relationships.

Before I get started on my thoughts on this game, I want to make things very clear. There are numerous people who are NOT recommending this game because it is "unpolished" to say it nicely. I want to make this very clear, this game constantly sees updates since its public release. I'm not talking about weekly updates either, the developer has literally released bug fixes every other day of this week to get this game as bug free as possible. You will rarely ever find this kind of dedication from a ONE MAN TEAM, it is very commendable. The developer has also released a roadmap of big updates, which is also a big plus. As of writing this review, the whole bug-fest of items flying into space when you kick them as mostly been fixed and is much less of a problem. Now for the actual review. This game is a great game and carries huge potential, and this game has barely been released. Comparing this game to other mining simulators/resource collection games, Hydroneer definitely sits up there as one of the better games worth picking up. First and foremost, this game is designed to be just about as tedious as working in real life, so if you don't have that kind of patience you should definitely not get this game. It is repetitive and takes a lot of dedication to keep working forward. Starting from slow, meager beginnings, you spend your time just barely pulling in profit to get started. But after your hard work, you start to pick up the pace and begin your road of progression. From simple hand mining, you can move on to automation and start quickly stockpiling your ores for some big profits. This game gives quite a lot of customization, allowing you to build insane contraptions to automate your mining process. You also have simple decor to bring your quarry to life as a true mining factory. You can setup things however you want, and there is quite a lot of tricks you will learn along the way to not only improve your contraptions, but even improve the appearances of them. This game is not without its flaws, many bugs/glitches still exist and many more will come as we keep getting content updates. There are also many small things that irritate you and make you want to rage quit. But, at the end of the day I want to come back to play again, and that's what a game is all about right? This is my warning to people, this game is not a finished product and is always updating. However, this shouldn't turn you away from getting the game. The developer is hard at work to make this game fantastic, I urge you to give it a try. This is truly a game which no one asked for, and yet everyone should try.

While this game is great, it largest limiting factor would the the lack of a true multiplayer. All this game needs is a true multiplayer. If its servers fine, if one person hosts and others join fine. I know many others could agree with me.

I'm going to start by saying that Hydroneer is worth the price tag. All in all this is a pretty amazing skeleton of a game, and I'd rather support the ugly brainchild of a solo developer than grease the greedy pockets of AAA developers who have no idea what innovation is. I really want to rate this game higher, as it has so much potential, but it has some glaring issues that simply need to be addressed. Here's what I liked and didn't like about Hydroneer. Pros -It's a great little mining/crafting Sim -The lack of an inventory system makes it feel very unique and hands on. It makes inventory management something of a gameplay mechanic. Loading up Trucks and Palettes is very satisfying. -Building elaborate systems of conveyors and drills and plumbing is good fun, and allows people to be as efficient or chaotic as they want to be. -The aesthetic is relaxing and cute. It doesn't have much of a story mode, but it feels like there is lore to the towns and areas of the game. -If this game ever gets a DLC or substantial content update, You can bet your ass I'd buy it. Cons -The game lacks any sort of end game or concrete objectives. -I had no chance in figuring out how anything worked without watching/reading a guide. -It's a bit glitchy and needs a lot of polishing in some areas. I was randomly dropping items in my hands, getting stuck in terrain (especially while driving a vehicle). I tried to use the "recall to vehicle" function from the options menu and it teleports me to my Truck, but then I can't get out of the Truck, so I use the "unstuck" function and it gets me out of the Truck only to plop me into the Truck bed where I get stuck again. -The lack of an inventory system could be a really fun mechanic to the game, but It kind of only serves to hinder on a lot of occasions. For example: You actually have to drop gold piles onto each other in order to combine them, but if you have two piles of money in the same bucket the game won't acknowledge the total value and you'll be sitting there scratching your head wondering what's even happening. -There is no "Quit without saving" option, so if you make a mistake and want to reload your file, you literally have to close the entire game, re-open it and then continue from the last save which may not even help you if you were playing with auto-save (which you almost definitely will be) -Just a long list of little things that sour the gameplay throughout. Eg: Weird Collision detection, Awkward Terrain to navigate especially with the Vehicles, Unexplained mechanics, Cumbersome physics can make simple tasks very difficult (Like i was trying to put a really big fish in a bucket and it would just fall out every time) I know it seems like I'm coming down hard on Hydroneer, but this is the only game I ever played that I actually cared enough about to write a review about. Any harshness you read here comes from a desire to see a Hydroneer 2.

I bought this game for my Grandson , and as I watched him play, I became very interested in it . It is a game that makes you think ... there is a tutorial , but not for everything . You really have to use your head , and imagination , so much so , that I bought it for myself . You have to be careful not to overload the game to much or it can get a little lagging . if you experiment a little , there are ways to get around that . Its a really great game , I love it , and play everyday . P.S. there is no violence or language , which is really uncommon for games that are this much fun .... enjoy .

Well after 29 hours of fun and tonight extreme pain I have tons of suggestions and would like to give the dev a big thanks for making an awesome game. Now suggestions as follows: 1. Digger could do with a better turning circle or tracked edition 2. Making a shovel that produce lumps to drop on conveyor 3. Making it so when you go to put a white bucket load of ore through a funnel it does not go off like a bomb and send stuff 50 tiles in all directions, spent an hour collecting my gold. little piece by little piece! 4. Making a new wall with a doorway but no door for internal uses 5. Making tractor/pickup easier to load so when loading stuff does not catapult across the map 6. adding some refuelling towers on map with a cost to use like 10 Hydro coins, i'd pay it. 7. Keep making the game more awesome I will add suggestions yet so please read and don't ignore! Thanks for your time and a great game! Now at 99 hours it's time for more items on the list 8. Possibly add tool tempering and hardening. To do this you could heat the tool tip then quench it in water and then re-heat and quench it in oil (Now for the oil I reckon it could be added as blobs you find when mining in the big endgame mine). Also to add complications you could make it so the tools can shatter like a 0.1% chance as this effect would need to add value. 9. Casting the materials you farm in preset moulds. Now this would require another possible new material that would be clay, for the castings blueprint they would need to be in the shop and of course a crafting mould item. 10. Find a way to reduce the brain washer that is your hydro truck and miner spinning at 1000 spins a second as that can be an instant headache. Great game still and can't wait for the next update keep up the great work!

I live in Australia, playing with my friends is practically impossible. Please add typical multiplayer connections. I would throw money on extra copies (Like I would literally any other multiplayer game in existence) to be able to experience this great game with friends. As remote play demands extremely high streaming capabilities to be able to run it smooth enough to be able to play.
