About the Game

How long can you survive in the Amazon rainforest?

Green Hell VR is the most complex and authentic survival game for VR. The game faithfully recreates the dangerous conditions of the Amazon jungle. Alone and stranded, you will never feel safe. To survive, you have to face your weaknesses. Maintaining hunger, thirst, fatigue and mental health is going to be an integral part of your journey. Wild animal attacks and tropical diseases could strike you down at any time and out of nowhere if you are not prepared. Since you won’t get any help from the outside world, you need to craft your tools and weapons, learn how to build shelters, and heal nasty wounds.

Story

You are Jake Higgins, a famous anthropologist, who is thrown deep into the emerald and impenetrable Amazonian rain forest. The green hell. Surrounded by predators with only your trusty smartwatch, backpack, and the survival guide you grabbed just before leaving home, you will follow the familiar voice of a loved one through this endless and inhospitable jungle, unveiling bit by bit how you got there in the first place. What you discover will be worse than what you fought so hard against to survive.

Realistic VR Mechanics

Crafting - you find yourself lost in the Amazon with almost nothing, so knowing how to craft crafting is your best friend. The VR experience makes crafting even more authentic as you need to find the right elements and combine them to make tools, weapons, bandages, and more.

Building - construct yourself a safe place to spend the night as sleeping on bare ground in the jungle may not be the best idea. Build a temporary shelter or find a perfect location, gather materials, and construct your base to cook what you found during your exploration, and to protect yourself from dangers lurking in the shadows.

Healing - inspect your limbs, bandage wounds, and extract parasites. Experiment with different treatments to survive in the wild. You will discover plants and their medical potential by mixing them and making a brew. Be careful though, some ingredients don’t go together, and some... well, you’ll see.

Food sources - you can hunt your dinner down, or you can choose not to kill animals. There are tasty and nutritious fruits like coconuts or bananas, a lot of unknown mushrooms, and plenty of plants, bulbs, and nuts to discover. These may be the sources of healthy proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, or they can have opposite effects! Be careful and stay healthy to survive.

VR Was Made For Games Like This!

With its vast mechanics based on natural movement and physics, and almost no visible UI and realistic gameplay elements such as your backpack and the map, Green Hell VR is highly immersive and gives you an opportunity to learn survival techniques in a harsh, demanding environment. Good luck!

This is a great game, I already bought and played Meta quest 2 version. That version also a wonderful game. But This PC version is not 100% better version. it has cons and pros than standalone version. I hope the developer see this review and fix them. Now I tell you what is the cons of pros of the game. Pro- -Overall graphic is absolutely stunning though there are few minus than Quest version. -We have Legs! -Feel game is huge, the environment scale is amazing -No loading area. It makes game is even bigger and feel very immersive. -It has more items and building options and a lots of additional props than standalone version which makes game rich. -Facing enemies is much challenging. -Overall play style is much realistic than quest. -The bag is free space which is very cool and nice But it's different than Into the radius. You have manage empty space like Diablo as well as weight of the bag. Cons- -Walking speed is fixed. I mean it's not transition between walk and sprint. It has only one 'walking' speed. Many VR titles have linear walking speed depend on Thumb-stick rotation. The fixed walking speed makes feel difficult to control very small movement. Also it's a big minus for Omni VR Treadmill and Natural Locomotion users. it's very simple thing. I hope devs fix it. - Rain graphic is really BAD. You did really well in the Quest version. the raining feels very real in it. but rain in this version, it's like an overlay on screen, not 3D at all very flat. it ruins whole game graphic fidelity. - Crafting is NOT good. Quest version is 300% better. it's very immersive and intuitive in that version. but This one has much detail option to craft but process is worse than Quest version... Please make crafting like quest version. You did really well on it. -Frustrating Target point. its target point feels slightly off for both index and quest2 controllers. Also You cannot grip them directly. it was a bad design for VR. ========================= I know you did really well on quest so I have to say you could do better in this version. There are few minus but I cannot deny the game is wonderful. there is no reason why I don't recommend this game for survivor game fans and VR enthusiasts. ========================== https://youtu.be/VrvPgII2QFo This is the Video review Link, Check it out!

First off, I want to mention that I never post reviews, especially negative ones, but the reason i'm doing that here is because I want to see this game grow and evolve into a perfect game. I will not be going over any pros of this game, only the cons. Right now I have two glaring issues with the game, the performance, and the parity between the Quest and Steam VR version. I'll tackle these in two different sections. First I'll tackle performance because I don't really think that much has to be said here. It just feels like the game is poorly optimized, getting constant frame stutters (mainly when turning using the joystick) that make it difficult to play for long periods of time. No matter how I tweaked the in-game settings, I couldn't seem to fix this issue. Secondly, the parity between the Quest and PCVR versions. My main issue is the crafting and building systems in the PCVR version. These two systems seem to be much less intuitive than in their Quest counterparts. Although I've personally never played the quest version, watching videos of it makes the PC version's crafting and construction systems seem much less immersive and sort of lackluster compared to the Quest. It feels as if the PCVR version was neglected when it came to adding features and instead, the Quest was prioritized. Can I recommend this game right now? No. Am I hopeful that this game will grow into something great if these two issues are solved? Yes. I am optimistic that the devs will see these issues and outcries from the community, and help turn this game into the great game I know it could be.

Let Me first start off with the issues, since that's what everyone will read, including the devs and they'll have more motivation to address them, since I will remove them when they're fixed. I'll add things to this and my wishlist as I play the game so that others can reference them. Following that, I will post a wishlist of improvements that I don't consider bugs, but are quality of life. Followed by my impressions of the game. Issues/Bugs------------------- 1. The smooth turning mechanic only seems to apply to the midline into the southern quadrants of the control stick. about midway and higher you do not turn, even if your stick is all the way to the edge. The way the index controllers are held, this feels like the controllers are not picking up input, especially when turning the direction of "inward" on the controller. this is extremely frustrating, and I would ask that you change it so that input in the northern quadrants of the control stick, also register as turns left or right when past a certain value on the x axis. 2. Occasionally, the walkie talkie will duplicate on your chest at roughly a 90 degree angle. 3. Swapping to and from performance mode crashes the game without a warning. If a restart is needed, a prompt should show. 4. Swinging the machete too quickly passes through objects you intend to cut. 5. vignette settings seem to not save sometimes. Wishlist of improvements---------- 1. Make turn speed a clamped float with a max value about 1.5-2x that of your current fastest setting, rather than 3 discrete options. Since it is both a movement and vision controlling option and these are key to the game, I would like to fine tune my turn speed. 2. Make the machete able to attach to the side of the backpack, over the shoulder, or at least face downwards. having it face back is awkward, and truth be told, I'd rather store it over one of my shoulders to be grabbed. 3. Make the subtitles or walkie talkie dialogue attach to the walkie talkie, in a grey box similar to how you pick dialogue options. That way if I want to read the subtitles, I can, against a nice contrast background instead of watching it jitter all over the place as I look around. 4. Allow index users to select dialogue options with the walkie talkie hand thumb trackpad and press trigger to confirm. Walkie talkies are one handed for a reason. 5. Index individual finger tracking. I want to flip off the natives and post to reddit to harvest butthurt. 6. Add option menu to tutorial. It took me 5 minutes of fumbling to figure out that tapping the position button would bring up the menu, which I needed to increase turn speed because medium was slow, slow was turtle, and fast is not fast enough. Opinion/Review-------------- Now that that's out of the way, let me get on with my opinion of the game. Right off the bat there was solid effort put into this port, which is extremely encouraging. It features: - Drop over shoulder looting and storage - a grabbable backpack - IK driven arms - Picked up objects have physics and collide with other objects, and seem to somewhat simulate weight. - custom player driven mechanics for items (i.e, a handheld fireplow that you grab the stick and work back and forth to make an ember) very cool. - swing the machete at small trees to chop them down, and again at large sticks to break into smaller sticks - Release crafting items over schematics to add to recipe - hold food to mouth to eat - touch watch to change display (awesome) - draw on a whiteboard and erase The Graphics are good, but poorly optimized, which I don't blame the devs of the port for, or really, the original devs all that much for. It was made to look beautiful on regular flat screen, the tall and dense canopies of a rain-forest is taxing given the expansive nature of the map. That said, I have a 5900x and a 3080 FE running on the index, and I have the resolution on high, the quality on the lowest setting, and the textures at medium, and it still stutters occasionally. Any improvements to this would be greatly appreciated, as many don't have the stomach I have for VR and stuttering is EXTREMELY disruptive to enjoying an experience. The environment and ambiance are amazing. It makes me excited for what can be possible when hardware can render much more complicated scenes in VR. The tutorial is nice and well needed. The dialogue isn't the best, and there are some spelling and grammar mistakes on some of the notebook entries, but that's minor. I am very excited for the multiplayer to this and additional polish and optimization, if it's within the devs abilities. I have noticed devs are reading reviews, responding and have noticed patches releasing. Because of all of this, I am endorsing the game.

Okay, first off wow, second off, what the hell, I watched a trailer on youtube of the crafting looking amazing and had to buy it, but apparently that's only on the quest version, why wouldn't you do the same for the pcvr? It's not like pc can't handle it, this game is so amazing but the quest crafting NEEDS to be ported to pc, devs I beg you to update the game with the quest crafting. This is one of the best vr games I've played in awhile and the crafting and lack of multiplayer is the only reason why its not my favourite vr game. The graphics are so beautiful, it's so immersive, IT'S FUN AS HELL, there's so much stuff do, but it's very hindered by the current crafting, throwing two things on a table, please update this. Right now the game is a 8.5 for me but if they added quest crafting it would be a 9.5 ATLEAST. I considered buying the quest version but Imma be real, the quest is a novelty of vr and it doesn't look as good as the pc version. Pleaseeeeee bring the quest crafting to PC and add multiplayer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE this game. <*>I love that the game is hard and that so much of the environment is hostile to you. <*>I love that the game doesn't hold your hand - YOU have to correlate the map with the world. <*>I love that the world is so open. <*>I love that I just can't freely save at any point (with the higher difficulty levels). <*>I love that I can build relatively complex buildings. <*>I love the graphics. <*>I love the story. <*>I love the game enough to accept that the backpack system and crafting system could be more VR-like (Use my hand as a hand instead of a pointer at a weird offset). <*>I love the game enough to accept all the minor bugs here and there. <*>I love the game so much that I've probably spent as much time outside the game writing a save-game editor in the hopes of being able to make the game f****** WORK again! (editor works, game does not) <*>I love the game, but after 3 long gameplays ruined by crippeling bugs, I've decided to abandon the game all together and have instead watched the Wolf in VR videos to at least get the rest of the story. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this game until it has become more stable. PS. Incuvo, I'm a professional software developer myself, so I know the challenge of reproducing weird behavior from the customers - if you are in need of save games from users or other data, I'm willing to help.
