Very high quality module as always with these guys. The plane itself is very different from any other released before it. A very capable strike aircraft, and very fun to fly. It's also very much in Swedish, so better get those IKEA leaflets out.

And now for something completely different. This aircraft has so many quirks about it you may as well just learn Swedish to fly it. The CK37 central computer is remarkably unique, and requires user input for almost any task or weapon delivery. The HUD is different from any other HUD-equipped DCS module, the RWR is difficult to use, flares and chaff must be equipped on an external hardpoint, mavericks must be aimed using what resembles a submarine periscope, and the engine will probably shut off if you exceed 20 degrees AoA for too long. But it's one of my favorite airplanes to fly. And it's really fast. I also should note that the depiction of the aircraft is absolutely stunning. The sound suite is superb and very atmospheric, and the way lights in the cockpit illuminate the contours of the panels is beatiful. It's worth your time just to sit in the cockpit and explore the details Leatherneck put into their product. This aircraft is for you if: -You want to fly (really) low altitude strike missions at supersonic speed -You have some time to learn a lot of procedures and computer codes -There are some ships you want to sink (it is tremendous at sinking ships) This aircraft may not be for you if: -Western, NATO standard aircraft are all you want to fly -A cockpit in an entirely different language is a dealbreaker -You want to dogfight at all As a final note, I would HIGHLY recommend a head tracking system if you want to use this aircraft effectively.

From heatblur simulations comes the AJS-37 Viggen, (near) perfectly implemented in DCS world. A swedish cold war jetfighter said to be a dangerous adversary in the theatre of war during the 80's, a next gen multirole fighter upgraded to take out ships with it's advanced air to ground/sea radar, destroy sam sites with unguided and guided precision. Obliterate airfields or hold off invasions by a far superior enemy with it's more than capable (some now illigal) munitions like the mjolnir gliding clusterbomb. Beautifully crafted with immersive sounds and lights, escpecially in VR you'll find yourselves lost in it's enviroment. From the green tint from the radar glowing ambiently around the cockpit, the bangs that occour during compressor-stalls and the deep growl from the engine when cranking it on to full "3" afterburner (arselbrennare) while listening to the slight "tick" sound from the throttle reminding you what position it's in. It also comes with a "tapeplayer" for playing that awesome retro theme song that'll remind you of an old lamborghini ad. After flying some of the newbie friendly flaming cliff 3 aircrafts, this was a rather steep transition. It's fairly easy to learn once you have mastered the basics, especially of you know some of the scandinavian languages, since all the instruments are labeled in swedish for autenticity. But fear not! There's also tons of awesome youtube videos that you can watch in order to start mastering this bird, as well as a few ingame fully voiceover tutorials with click-cues. And I'm pretty sure it'll get english cockpit soon? Just like the russian aircrafts are labeled in russian doesn't mean you'll struggle to learn it if can't read Cyrillic. You'll have a hefty manual on your hands, plus some compressed versions of it on the DCS websides made by the community with basic and advanced tutorials for your reference as well as HOTAS setups. One thing that might put you off is the way this plane's designed around waypoints. You have to manually enter waypoints/coordinates to be able to deliver ordinance in a proper and precise way. DCS world is just a little bit wobbly in this area, hence it requires some manual work to find the coordinates you want (F10 map function or draw the waypints in mission editor). In multiplayer this becomes a hassle. And that's my only drawback with this module . If the creators would make a third party module implemented within the AJS Viggen that allows you to quicly draw up or plan custom mission waypoints, especially in multiplayer based on JTAC functions on the fly, it would get a 10/10 from me. I know the community made somewhat of a tool for this, but it requires you to get the mission data from a server, close DCS and draw the waypoints, implement them in the aircraft, then load up DCS again and fly. It takes quite a long time. But, if you master this function, you'll be able to deliver deadly packages to targets while flying at mach 0.9 , 10 meters above the treetops, in any weather! And it's properly rewarding managing to do this. (Edit 20/5-2020: You can now place custom map markers on the F10 map and load a custom carthridge for waypoints. Thanks Heatblur!) Note it's not designed to do much air to air combat, but more of a "release ordinance on ground/ship targets and haul ass back to base type of plane", mainly due to it's awesome speed. But it can indeed carry a selection of A2A missiles. Overall I'm thoroughly loving this module. However, if you want to maximize the performance of this aircraft i would without a doubt recommend a good HOTAS and VR/TrackIR or some other head/eyetracking hardware. If you have a HOTAS I'd recommend a second joystick as well for the radar for full immerson. This is not required, but it feels natural the way the cockpit is layed out. Score: 9/10. Absolutely worth it's price as well. They worked hard on this one ;)

Possibly my favorite Aircraft, plenty of fire and forget guided/unguided munitions. If you're asking yourself about this or other ground attack aircraft consider that if you want CAS go A-10C/F/A-18. If you want to fly in and dump your munitions on a target and get out over long ranges near mach 1, then this is the aircraft for you. This is a strike aircraft where you fly in hit a target and get out, you are not very useful for CAS or AA. Don't let this discourage you from this module, it's easily one of my top 3 currently, and possibly #1. Things I like: -CCIP/CCRP Bombing, Anti-Ship Missiles, Swedish Mavericks, and rocket pods, etc. -Awesome ground radar which can pick out targets from up to 120km away. -Reverse thrust for short strip landing. -Fun to fly and land, easy to learn, hard to master, can pick it up in a night and learn over a couple years. -Sound/Light in cockpit, very immersive. -Ability to take out naval/ground targets before they could even know you were there. Things to Note (most of these are about the plane itself, not the fidelity of the module, just it's real world limitations): -Has no, let me repeat... NO built in guns although you can attach AKAN 30mm 150 round gunpods. -Not very good at AA/CAS. -It's cockpit text is in Swedish, although I believe they are working on an english one soon. -Will take some time to get used to the right-hand buttons/navigation tools. (LOTS OF CODES TO REMEMBER!) Once all the small little bugs get ironed out I would consider this a 5/5. Feel free to ask me any questions about the module!

This is one incredible aircraft. It is iconic of the Cold War era and one that has fascinated me since I was a youngster back in the 1980's. To be able to fly it now is such a treat and to experience it in all its complexity and fidelity is an almost surreal experience. Heatblur did a fantastic job and while it is a relatively easy aircraft to just fly around, it is really hard to master all the systems. It is unlike anything I've flown before, firstly because most of the instruments and controls are in Swedish and secondly because they operate differently to other jets I've flown in the virtual world. It is a unique, complex and utterly fascinating aircraft and a real challenge which will keep me busy for a long time. Most importantly, it feels right. It was in beta for a long time and I've complained to Heatblur about an incomplete manual. A few months later, they have updated everyting and even responded to my old request, informing me that it is now complete. Such attention to detail and customer response is rare and priceless. I highly recommend this aircraft and developer.

Before I begin this review, I feel that it is important to note that I am Swedish, meaning the cockpit is in my native language, resulting in a more easily understandable system. The Viggen is certainly a one-of-a-kind attack, intercept and reconnaisance (AJS) airplane. It's relative simplicity compared to more modern airplanes available in DCS makes it a very viable buy for people just getting into the game. Start-up only requires 5 switches to be flipped. The computer however is quite complicated and esoteric as it's one of the first, if not the first, computer to be built into an airplane. Waypoints and basic weapon systems are easy to grasp but beyond that the CK37 computer unit is quite esoteric and certainly hard to learn, and even harder to master. It certainly makes for an enjoyable experience, flying the Viggen, especially at low level over the sea preparing for a ship strike. Overall I consider this to be a certainly very worthy buy, and an interesting airplane.

The big end of the vig gen is just so interesting. It's fun to fly, and not too hard to get up and going (like 5 button presses if you don't feel like plugging in your NES cart?) She goes. Hard. It feels like a plane they were worried they'd need to put someone about one quarter trained into, and considering I have just enough brain cells to remember to breath then I'm pretty sure anyone can figure this thing out in due course. Also she has an ELINT pod for doing some silly recon stuff, 10/10

If you are looking for strike fighter, this is your bird. Long range, wide variety of weaponry, powerful radar etc etc... Viggen can work as a lone wolf, or (even more efficiently) as part of strike pack, picking up a role as a ECM aircraft for example. AJS-37, although being mostly attacker / strike fighter, can also work as fighter with armament of Swedish AIM-9 based Rb-74's (or Rb-24's). It has also Rb-75 (copy of AGM-65) and Rb-05 (copy of AGM-12) A/G missiles. Also all-Swedish weapons, like Bk-90 gliding clusterbomb, can be found. However, Viggen excels most in anti-ship role. Armed with formidable Rb-15 or Rb-04 missiles it can take on any ship, even Nimitz class carrier. Viggen is the kind of aircraft you'll either love it or hate it. If you love Hornet, don't get Viggen. If you love something older, and you want to try out something drastically different, this is your bird.
