I'm gonna just say this. I booted up the game and played this not realizing this or the void stuff was DLC.... It just felt like a natural extension of the game. My suggestion is wait for a steam sale, buy the Darksiders collection, and play them in one stream of awesome. I beat this, got what I wanted and left. Honestly, I agree with everyone below that said this DLC should not have been DLC, but on the other hand, you have to hand it to a dev that makes their DLC not feel like DLC. It's an arena. It's not necessary to the story or anything. You could go through the game without it and not bat an eye.

When you look at reviews for this game you either have people that love it or the usual people that hate anything that isn't exactly like what they personally want.... which is a rehash of a previous title... and then if it was that they would also complain. Surprise surprise with the DLC you have people who enjoy it or people who complain because they have to pay for it and they didn't have to pay for it with the previous game. It is what it is. Its an arena mode that unlocks some cool armor and gives you some good challenge. I enjoy both the game and this DLC and have no issue paying for a product that people worked on.

So after almost 30 hours with the combat system in this game, all on apocalyptic difficulty, i felt pretty prepared for the crucible. Boy was i wrong. (Keep in mind i'm a sassy bitch and i use sarcasm *heavily*). Short version: Not worth your money or time. Long version: First off, this should have been part of the main game. After completing the crucible and the "secret" boss fight i felt entirely ripped off for what it actually gave me. It's more or less the same as Darksiders 2 crucible except the rewards system is nowhere near as satisfying. DS2 gave you semi-random loot, with power scaling to how well you did in that crucible run. It was exciting because you didn't always know what you were going to get, but you always got *something* useful. In DS3 the loot takes the form of tokens you can spend at a shop. Most of the items are stuff you can grind for or buy of vulgrim for much cheaper price, making me question why they are even options. The unique loot comes in the form of 3 new armours and 4 new enchantments. I'm gonna tell you right now, none of them are worth it for the time required to put in to get them. There are no unique weapons or abilities, just passive upgrades and new fashion at a bloated price. How bloated? I ran through the entire crucible (1-101) and got 65 tokens. The 3 armours are 60 each and the 4 enchantments are 30 each. You do the maths. In addition to this, knowing what you're grinding for takes away some of the excitement on finally receiving the item (imo, this might differ for people) but when i played through it, i felt a lot more excited when i got a cool possessed weapon out of the crucible (after 25 waves) than getting one of the new armours (after all 100 waves). And i say again, why no more weapons or abilities or combat moves?? It's all just passive upgrades like +20% health which you can't actually "use" in combat if you get what i mean, you can't *see* your new gear in action (barring the fashion itself). It just feels so hollow and empty... Even if you didn't get something good, the crucible runs in DS2 were quite short because even on the hardest difficulty, you didn't die too often. I'm not sure what Gunfire's obsession with killing the player and making them start again is in this game but it carries on into the crucible two-fold. This not only wastes your time but forces you to go through many waves multiple times just to learn a boss's moveset (there are bosses every 25 waves, and if you die to them cause you don't know their moves, you have to start again). Not to mention the spawn system in the crucible is idiotic. In the previous two games, enemy spawns are loudly announced by a sound queue, and the enemies have a spawn-in animation. This is present throughout the first two games. This is both so the player is aware of an enemy spawning, and gives them a chance to react to the new situation. DS3 doesn't have a spawn system for the majority of the game, most of the enemies are already there when you enter a area, so one had to be created for the crucible. For starters it's quiet af. In the chaos of combat you can barely hear it, and i was caught out from behind or to the sides DOZENS of times because of an enemy i wasn't even aware had entered the arena. It gets worse. There is no animation for them entering, they're just there in a flash. This means they can enter a attack animation immediately, and sometimes even BEFORE they spawn. I think the game "spawns" them before actually rendering them on screen because multiple times did an enemy spawn in the middle of an attack and hit me, giving me zero chance to dodge. In apocalyptic difficulty, most attacks do obscene damage and i was killed multiple times by this shit. It's not often i say this about an RPG, even ones that pride themselves on difficulty, but it felt unfair. Sometimes there are situations where you will die and there is NOTHING you can do about it, regardless of your skill as a player. Spoiler (i guess, but even calling this a "spoiler" is laughable). Remember how in DS2 there was a cool story behind the crucible? It wasn't just an arena for you to test builds, get sweet loot and have fun, free of the story? No? Because that's exactly what is was. DS3's crucible has a story (if you can even call it that). Long and short of it there are two crucibles each led by a brother, who had a falling out (the second crucible is the DS2 one). Fury becomes a therapist for this overseer about reconciling with his brother in some of the most cringy dialogue i have ever heard. It was entirely unnecessary and added nothing to the experience. Even after all that, the ending is tepid at best. The brothers make up (off screen) and the original crucible overseer comes back for a cameo....with no dialogue. He just stands there. Doing literally nothing. Great way to utilise another fan-favourite character Gunfire, just keep putting them on screen and hope that's enough, don't actually put any effort into it. God it's Lilith all over again, a scene that was literally copy-pasted into this game for people to get nostalgic over, and giving Lilith no dialogue...fantastic decision. This is more of the same. The epic, hammer-wielding overseer with a fantastic voice actor is brought back as a cheap prop. Oh and the final boss is Wicked K, but we all saw that coming. Is the fight fun? Yes. Is Wicked K still the same? Mostly. His attitude is the same (but still feels a little watered down) but i'm 80% sure they changed the voice actor (but i could be wrong). I can't put my finger on precisely what bugged me about his dialogue but it just...didn't feel the same. Was it worth the ridiculous grind to get there? Absolutely not. Oh and the final reward for beating Wicked K is a piece of adamantium that you can use to upgrade a weapon to +11. ONE weapon. That's it. It doesn't even have any cool abilities to add to the weapon or even unique dialogue from Ulthane, it just gives +12 damage to the weapon. How satisfying.... On a final note, Vulgrim hints that there is a story to Wicked K and he that he has his own lore(XD). ...a easter egg character...that was put into the first game as a joke...now has an impact on the story, further highlighting the problem i mentioned earlier. Not everything *needs* to have a story, some things can be there cause it's fun and this is still a game first. Instead they felt the need to have a story explaining the crucible's existence when literally nobody cared and now they hint at a story for an easter egg character who, if you removed from the franchise, would have absolutely no impact on the games. What an absolute waste of time. Let me end by saying if you enjoy the combat system in this game to no end, then maayyyybe you'd like this DLC (but you'd have to REALLY like the combat). If you're looking at this DLC for the cool loot, the fun arena to test builds or the...story(?) then save your money, it's really not worth it. Can't wait for the next DLC to be all about Wicked K's backstory.

First, The Crucible as DLC is a complete money grab and should have been included as a secret "dungeon"n. The devs really should have played the first 2 games before making this one. It just doesn't play the same at all and makes progression inconceivably more difficult. For those people that like the Dark Souls style of game, give them a difficultly that sets it that way but, don't make it a default. It especially doesn't fit within the Crucible. Not worth the time and effort.

Half-assed at best. Money grab at worst.

Decent DLC. Not the greatest but if you can grab it on sale go for it. If you have the previous darksider games you can get a bundle that gives darksiders 3 and DLCs for cheaper than the base game.

The base game is fine. But paying for a run of old assets to be chucked at you in a circular ring, and counting from stage 1 to 100.. not so fine
