I'm down at 5 hours to complete the game but a lot of that was on pause. Once or twice i played and closed just before reaching a checkpoint, so had to backtrack next time I loaded. I'd say I spent about 4 hours actually playing new material. I would recommend it but with a caution. It's just too short. I won't complain about the graphics. I can see that they were done for a reason. I may replay it to get the 4 achievements I missed, but I'd not play it much, if at all, after that. This could just be the type of gamer I am. I like my Witcher, Tomb Raider and Dishonored type of games most. Other games I enjoy when I want a relaxing break from all the rush and gore. I didn't find this too relaxing. There was something compelling enough about it to make me want to finish it, though. Others have criticised the story. I quite liked it. It's simple, yes, but I guess the whole thing is meant to be like a story invented by a child, but with adult interpretations possible, certainly at the end. I paid £12 or so for it. That's not the value for money of a game like Witcher 3, but if I play again to get all achievements, it could work out about £1 an hour. I've paid more than £20 for a meal that I eat in an hour, a lot of which is waiting for the courses to arrive! Putting it that way, it doesn't seem so bad. If you bear in mind the shortness of the game and it's at a price you can afford, give it a try.

Almost a decade after initial release this game holds up very well today. This was a real joy to play and was a stunningly beautiful puzzle game 9/10

I don't like this but only personally. I can see why many have praised it. So instead of complaining, let's keep the thumbs down for my own preference but look at the positives. Art - A neat concept that forces you to fill in the terrain in order to explore your surroundings (constantly firing paintballs got old FAST) Graphics - Charmingly simple. I don't need fancy AAA graphics to enjoy a game. In fact, many of my favorites are retro pixel. (this game however just doesn't have enough eye candy for me, fancy or otherwise) Music - Well, hardly any lol. Maybe the silence is what adds to ambience? (this like others is just lacking too much for me) Gameplay - Your standard FPS run and gun but with paintballs and the environment is your target (again, I only played for a half hour, got pretty far-ish and I should expect more "weapons" to be unlocked. I just couldn't stick around for it) I hope you find enjoyment in this game where I couldn't. It's not at all bad, it's just not for me.

For some reason walking simulators give me headaches, however I really wanted to play this one because of all the praise and because it's a "prequel/sequel?" to Edith Finch. And it really lived up to expectations, the short story will keep you entertained while you go through the puzzles that aren't that difficult. Still, get both games on sale, even though they are extremely well-made pieces of art, they are a bit short for the normal price and not everyone will find them entertaining.

My first experience with this game was through stampy when I was a little kid. Great game, but really brief. Wish it could go on forever. I recommend this to everyone.

Aspiring developers of walking simulators need to take note of The Unfinished Swan. Its first and most memorable mechanic is throwing paint around to reveal an otherwise pure white world, and it does what many in that genre fail to do despite the name: it makes walking engaging. To be clear, The Unfinished Swan is not itself a walking simulator. It just aims for many of the same goals. There are puzzles, but they’re all fairly easy, so the emphasis is on the environment and the experience. It was a wise choice, because the environment is a joy to explore and the experience is terrific. The narrative is that of a charming and mildly poignant children’s storybook – it won’t set the world on fire, but it opens the door for a variety of inventive mechanics, from directing the growth of climbable vines to constructing life-size blueprints. The only significant fault I have is the standard one for short, artsy indie games: missed potential. Particularly, having established that its mechanics can be used for puzzles, it’s disappointing that the game only does so a few times for each. Still, what’s present is more important than what’s not, and what’s present is a lovely, memorable journey. Score: 8/10 https://www.imlgames.com/the-unfinished-swan/

IMHO the cheap jumpscares (particularly prevalent in chapter 3) kinda ruin this game

Unfinished Swan shows a desperate finding for something that remains unfinished. As Alice through the mirror or even the Little Nemo traveling through another realm this whole empty painting awaits you to give a moral response for things that stay with us in our present time as white and black while it's up to us to end it with the colours of our dreams.

A wonderful and creative little game. Fourth time buying it, no regrets.
