This game is filled with game-breaking bugs. The more you progress into the game, the more often you will encounter them. The worst thing being these are easily corrected ones, some would only take a minute to fix ! I guess nobody tested the game and bothered fixing these bug almost 3 years into release. Better pump out some paid DLCs I guess. The only enjoyment you'll get will come from your passion for bikes and racing, not from the game studio's work. Bikes look and sound good tho

I applaud the physics engine, every single one of my crashes happened exactly the way I'd expect them to IRL. From low-siding into a sharp bend to high-siding on the way out or even the odd wheelie (not difficult on an R1M), they've modeled the ways to kill yourself on a bike to near perfection! I've seen a lot of people complaining about how difficult it is to ride with any semblance of competence in this game, and though that's true, it's not the game's fault. There's only so much you can do to make a bike rideable with two analogue triggers for throttle and brake, and an analogue stick for lean angle. Some things you just can't simulate, like the feel of the back wheel beginning to slide out from under you (and the rush from living to tell the tale!) or that hard knock in the bars from a bump bottoming out your front suspension. These are all things that we as riders learn to look for, recognise and react to, which are simply absent when you're playing from the comfort of your desk or sofa with a console controller. There's unfortunately not a lot the devs can do about that one, other than shipping you a bike, a racing track, a container-load of tyres and a fuel tanker. What's also absent though is any semblance of finesse, especially in the steering input. Simply put, your thumb just isn't that precise. You can learn fine motor control, and on a real bike that pays massive dividends (see comment about living to tell the tale...), but there's only so much you can do with the limited range of motion of an analogue stick, or for that matter - the triggers. I really appreciate the haptic feedback on the front brake, it's definitely better than nothing, but it doesn't make up for how badly the steering model works. That steering model is actually my main issue with this game. But first a short physics lesson for those who have never thought about it... Bikes steer by leaning. Simple, obvious, kind of scary when you're new, but you get used to it and learn to trust it. Most people assume that shifting your weight around is what gets the bike down, and doing 5mph in a car park - it does. But the faster you go, the more that bike just wants to stay upright, to the point where past about 30mph you could stand on one of the pegs and it would quite happily carry on in a straight line. Maybe start bending your trajectory slooooooowly... Past about 60 - forget it. So how do you get the bike to lean? You steer with the bars. Countersteer, to be precise. Put simply, you turn the front wheel the opposite way to where you want to go. Sounds counterintuitive, and it is, but think for a second about body roll in cars - you turn left, car tilts right. You continue going left, because the car follows the two front wheels, but the tilt is there for all to see. Well, on a bike it's the tilt we want, so we do the same thing - push the right bar, front wheel goes left, bike leans right. Same going the other way - push left, bike leans left. When you're going fast enough you don't even feel the bars move, you just feel the force, which is proportional to the lean rate. And it takes more when you're going faster. Once the bike is on its side, assuming your tyres haven't got flat spots (happens when you mostly go in a straight line), the bike will just stay there until you countersteer the other way to straighten up. Those last few parts are very important. They're what allow a rider to be extremely smooth when going around a bend. That part is also completely missing from this game's riding model. Actually no, that's not exactly true, they've modeled countersteering (you can see it happening when you turn at slow speeds), but they've then added a layer of abstraction on top of it which basically links lean angle with the analogue stick and there's no option to turn that off and have direct control instead. That's the only thing I really wish the game had, it would be such an improvement to the handling model without sacrificing any of the physics! In summary, if you're looking to learn to be a track rider, save your cash and get a real bike. This will never come close. It can't. BUT, if you're looking to mess about on tracks, crash surprisingly accurate models of real bikes, mod, do the whole racing league thing, and can live with the limitations outlined above - this one is as good as any. Just don't expect to be very good at it. Maybe I'll try it with a flight stick later, it's bound to be more precise than a controller's analogue stick...

I have been counting down the days for this game to come out, refreshing the steam page since midnight, and unfortunately now have to say this game did not deserve my excitement. I gave it a solid chance with the 2 hour refund window I had. Most of the time if I buy a game I don't end up liking, oh well, it will just sit in my library. Maybe it will get better with time. However the egregiousness of this game/developer... I couldn't stomach giving them my money in this case. The previous ride games and the hundreds of dollars of bikes cut out as dlc, and now this one with day 1 bike packs... all while the game is utter crap. They will milk you with this one too, make no mistake of that. So with that out of the way, the game itself. I'm not sure how this game made it through play testing. If it even had play testing... because I cannot imagine any play tester playing this game and going " Yep, go ahead, feels good. Ready for release." As I am now older, I can't tell you the last time a game made me frustrated to the point of feeling the rage well up in my chest, on a hairpin trigger ready to explode in a shower of controller pieces. But that's what playing Ride 4 felt like for me. I'm not sure what the intended control method was, but it feels like a dumpster fire with either keyboard or gamepad. The bikes feel like a brick on wheels. You are either up and down, or full lean. Trying to make fine adjustments mid corner is an exercise in futility. If you come into your line anything outside of perfect, you're either going wide, or over compensating and going narrow. As you lean into the corner, you have to hold the bike into the turn. Naturally the bike wants to stand itself up as you accelerate through. Sounds good, that's how bikes work. However, since the controls feel so brick like, this is where the crux of the game feeling so bad comes in. You just don't have a smooth range of control for lean in the corner. Since you have to hold the control stick over, and the bike is trying to stand up, you get into a situation where unless you are absolutely perfect with your stick control the bike goes into this back and forth wobble of leaning in and starting to stand back up. This completely unsettles the bike mid corner and throws your handling out the window. With that being said, one of the early things you'll be doing in ride 4 career is a time attack lap that you have to hit a number of speed trap gates around a circuit. Missing or being under speed through these gates adds .500 to your time. They are about 3 bike widths wide, sometimes positioned strangely off the racing line, and have absolutely no forgiveness on the edges. You need to be damn near dead center, with a bike you can barely control, and missing more than 1 pretty much means pause, reset, load, try again. This same lack of forgiveness was present in other modes as well. You touch the white line on the edge of the track, fail. You come a little wide and run onto the curb run off on the outside of a corner, fail. I am a motorcycle fanatic. I seriously eat sleep and breath 2 wheels. And 4 honestly. I just love racing and motorsport. I ride street, I ride track. I am also a long time gamer. I have a VR headset and wheel setup for sim racing. I know it takes some time to get better with games like these sometimes, and I didn't come into this expecting to be good right away. This was my first motorcycle "sim". I was just ecstatic to have an outlet for my motorcycle addiction while my bikes are all tucked in over the coming winter months. I really wanted this game to be good! Because I know there will be people that think I'm just being salty about being bad at the game, there is a difference between challenging and frustrating. When the controls feel this bad, in a game which the entire premise revolves around controlling your bike, you are far into frustrating territory. There are other things wrong with the game, but the control feel is just by far the refund factor for me. From Soft games are some of my favorite games of all time. I have completed multiple play throughs of Dark Souls Remastered on switch fully in handheld mode. I can deal with wonky controls when there are redeeming factors. But quite honestly everything in Ride, outside of the controls, feels aggressively average. If they just had thumbstick control adjustments, I probably could have tuned the feel to good enough to put up with the rest of the mediocrity for the sake of the bikes. Sadly, the game is just far too frustrating as it is and the business model far too greedy considering what you're getting. I have a back log a mile long, cyberpunk is on the horizon... I guess I will have to continue waiting for a true motorcycle sim, and youtube will have to do for feeding my motorcycle addiction this winter.

I started playing the game in 2022 so I don't know what it was like before the update, but I can say that it's very challenging and enjoyable in its current state. There is a steep learning curve. After 40 hours I'm still not sure what I'm doing, especially on new race modes like endurance. My biggest complaint is that there aren't any tutorials. Nothing. Not even loading screen tips... Regardless, I've never played a racing game this fun before, and riding through corners in first person on such beautiful bikes is a treat. Sometimes, during a race, for a brief moment you might forget you're playing a game, and in that moment you'll be glad you purchased this game.
