Oh boy. This game brings me so many memories of my childhood. So many references, with a beautifully directed art and envolving sountracks, the game stands up with a simple, intuitive, and yet, very confortable and fun battle mechanics. The lore and dialogues brings to the game a great amount of good comedy. The characters have a great charge of personality, bringing some good vibes and lots of laughs. I'm a big fan of hard games, and the the difficult ladder of Ninjin really put me to the test many times. So, if you are a fan of old games such as Megaman, Ninja Gaiden, Mario Bros, Double Dragon, and tons of old school games, and want a bit of challenge, make sure to give Ninjin a shot!

As someone who's played alone, with a friend, completed all the first zone, and beat the first 10 waves of endless mode, I find this game to be very enjoyable. The gameplay is unique and intuitive. The music feels nostalgic, as if I've heard it before. The game runs well, and the pixel style is nice, and doesn't feel like it gets in the way. Everything all mashed together to create this wonderful experience, and while the story isn't the best, the well-paced comedy, and everything else makes up for that. The only things I find annoying is that if one person dies in co-op mode, it's automatically a game over, and that the game can sometimes be too colorful and flashy, it gets distracting. It's a really fun game, I recommend it whether you want to play all by yourself or have a friend you want to share the experience with.

Im impressed I had not heard of this gem before. I can't even remember the last game that gave me such... honest fun. Streets of Rage maybe? No eternal grind, no forced repeatable quests, no waste of time with boring stuff to get to the good stuff... just the next challenge. Almost every level a new enemy, a new formation, a new boss and man does it get hard... do not get fooled by the cute graphics, this thing is brutal! For the price and the amount of fun I had already (PS: not even close to finishing the game yet), I cannot recommend this enough. Btw, since I have no friends Im glad to say this is a lot of fun playing alone which is not true for so many games these days... but I can only imagine its at least as fun playing with others. Also by the way apparently you can play online as well, so no need to have a friend that lives with you to enjoy some co-op ass beating. Want a game to smash stuff up in berzerker mode and feel good while dash slashing 50 enemies at once and getting a load of carrots? This is the game for you.

It's so good I bought it again on Steam. Originally played it on Nintendo Switch. Support the devs. There's also a Cartoon Network show currently in production based on this game!!

Quick Description: -Ninjin Clash of Carrots is a beat em up and twin stick shooter hybrid w/ a cast full of colorful characters and chaotic bullet hell gameplay. This game has a ton of charm, is absolutely adorable, and is really well polished. It's a bit of a one trick pony and is likely to fly under the radar, but is well worth your time if you are a fan of the genre. What's Good: -I'm a big fan of the art direction and Hub in between levels. There are a ton of bright colors, projectiles flying everywhere, and a wide variety of enemy types and challenges. This is a really great looking game that pretty much any Indie fan is likely to appreciate visually. -Tons of weapons! There are hundreds of different weapon and projectile types and each one is unique and offers different strengths and weaknesses. It's a lot of fun trying out each one and seeing which one fits your playstyle. I love the creativity between banana-boomerangs to carrot swords, to bombs that bounce everywhere upon impact; there is a ton of variety. -A good amount of content; more than the average beat em up. You probably won't finish your first playthrough for at least 5-8 hrs depending on your skill level. Being that there are a ton of weapons and several different unlockable modes, there is a good amount of reason to come back and try again later. -Solid soundtrack that is fun and matches the tempo of the game. The sound effects also feel great and you always know when you hit an enemy which is really important in beat em ups. -Boss fights are really challenging and quite unique. Most of the bosses are skilled based and offer a fair challenge. There are only a few moments late game that offer some cheap tricks to ramp up difficulty, but as a whole the difficulty curve progresses as you'd hope for a game like this. Could Use a Few Changes: -As I mentioned earlier, the only real frustrating moments were in the very last levels where bosses would take away all your weapons temporarily and make you avoid enemies and projectiles w/ nothing but your dash. This felt cruel and was by far the most tedious part of the entire game. I think they could have found a more interesting way to challenge the player. -There is a ton of things bouncing and darting around screen, making it difficult at the most chaotic times to keep up w/ everything. This lead to me too frequently spamming the dash and attack button and hoping that things worked out. This was really only an issue in the most challenging levels where it's difficult to keep up w/ the horde of enemies, but it's still worth mentioning. -Like so many similar games, it did start to feel repetitive late game. This may just be my preference for this genre, b/c I've ran into this problem in the last 3-4 beat em ups I've played and this is arguably the most unique beat em up I've played and I still ran into this issue. Thoughts: -I had a lot of fun playing Ninjin. I had very low expectations going in and expected this to be a cakewalk w/ cutesy characters. I was right about the adorable characters, but fortunately this is a much more well rounded challenging experience than I was expecting. This is a great beat em up hybrid that is not talked about enough. I really enjoyed the bullet hell elements and hope to see more games that mimic this formula, b/c it's a lot of fun. Consensus: -Solid Game (Tier 3 and makes up 35% of my reviews). Ninjin Clash of Carrots is a solid game that is well worth your time and attention. Don't overlook this one and add it to your library, it's a real treat to play.

A decent beat-em-up game. Fast paced action, simple story, some fun dialogues and goofy bosses. You can complete the story mode in 8-9 hours. At first it's really fun, but in the middle of the game some enemy combinations become really frustrating/annoying, especially when it seems that your damage is lacking. But it's only because this game has little to no info about elemental damage types and their benefits to the player. But once you actually figure everything out (more or less) all by yourself - the fun factor comes back. I really liked the last several levels of the story. Decent challenge. Overall this game is missing some simple things and quality of life improvements. Like an option to disable controller's vibration. It vibrates nearly all the time while playing the game. Itemisation is very lackluster. There are dozens of weapons, yes, but most of them are so underpowered=useless. They look interesting, but that's it. A lot of information is missing: utility of elemental damage types, power-up damages. No idea how the score ratings are calculated. Sometimes you get a S-Rank, sometimes you get B, but why, how? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Survival/Endless mode is absolutely terribly made. Every 3 waves you get an option to choose 1 item, but you have no idea what stats it has. All you see is how it looks, that's it. The devs think that players will memorize every single item in the game and what it does. It's just stupid. Too bad that most indie games suffer from lack of (numerical) information in their games - this one is clearly not an exception. Only grab this game on sale tho.

Wow, what a surprise! Tons of fun and very polished - not at all what I was expecting going in. This game is a real gem!
