If you are a fan of indie horror, definitely check this game out! Has vibes similar to PT and overall it’s quite a scary experience!

Life After Death is a horror game where our protagonist (Jesse) must face the secrets of his past by travelling through a looping nightmare of his home and memories. Life After Death is unfortunately a fairly run of the mill standard indie horror game. You have stock assets that I've seen many times before, you have puzzles that involve finding one item to use on another item, you have random jumpscares you have mediocre chase sequences that aren't scary. All in one package. It's not that Life After Death is a terrible game because what is here is competently put together at at least functions into a complete title, however the game lacks anything to make it truly memorable or recommendable. The games English translation seems really hit or miss to the point of being comic gold at times, some bits are well translated and make sense while others seem to have been done by machine or by someone without a full grasp of the language. While I know its not always easy to find translators on a limited budget, some of the notes were laugh out loud funny with how badly they were done. If you've played any other "PT" style horror title in the last few years this is more or less the same, your given a bigger area to explore than most and there is more back-tracking to find items than most, but essentially this is something we've seen all before, including the games story and ending. Didn't encounter any bugs or major issues with the play through however and the devs should be praised for the game having polish for what it is, I will say that I think the dev can make some great titles in the future and this could be a stepping stone towards that if some further polish , better storytelling and just not being a clone of many other indie horror titles was applied. Unfortunately I can't recommend the title simply as it's just very generic and ultimately quite boring, never good for a horror game.

    Life After Death isn't good

I had a good time with ASK_GAMES' previous outing, Beside Myself, and not for the reasons that make up a good horror game. It was janky, nonsensical and absolutely hilarious because of this. I dismissed it as "first game clunk", and still bought this one despite the "mixed" reviews. Surely they learnt from their mistakes in some way? Not at all. I feel like Life After Death trumps the first game in regards to storytelling. I was much more engaged with the storyline here, which made it all the more difficult to enjoy what was given in terms of gameplay and visuals. This game and the last have the same issue of not really indicating what you have to do. A significant amount of your playtime will be messing around with everything and walking back and forward aimlessly as you try to figure out what on earth the devs want you to accomplish. If there was more direction, it would crunch the gametime down by a significant margin, and therefore not justify spending $11.40NZD on an experience that's actually about 45-50 minutes long. Because of this, the pacing and terrible "puzzle" design feels almost deliberate and I can't enjoy a game that manipulates the player into thinking its longer, when it's really just a clumsy mess. Visually, this game honestly looks worse than the last. Every room in this house is empty, and most areas look the same. More reused assets are prominent and the sound design is mostly stock SFX you've probably heard in other free indie demos on itch.io I can appreciate the devs trying to mimic Bloober Team and do a "Layers of Fear" inspired section, plus there is now an actual threat that can harm you, but there's still no tension whatsoever. The enemy in question is super slow and can be ignored completely if you crash on a bed or couch. Life After Death is seriously disappointing. It feels like a deliberate move to make nonsensical puzzles with zero sense of direction to pad the gametime, and charging $11.40NZD for something that still only takes about 2 hours to 100% feels like a scam. There's some small stuff here that made me feel a little less mad at this game when playing, but it can't even manage to be as enjoyably bad as the developer's previous outing. 2/10

Played on Linux using Proton Experimental, Started off okay, assets everywhere including the House Map, but can not finish the game as it has a known game breaking bug, (put your stuff away) you can not pick up an item so you cannot put it where it should be to unlock a draw that has a key you need to unlock a door which needs to open so you can move on. Quitting the game and play said level again did not fix the bug, Even started all over again clean and still this bug happened. Also another bug where the old lady was meant to chase you around, had the sound/music that happens but the old lady was nowhere to be seen, which is a good thing as it made it easy to get around. Not recommend with the bugs. UPDATE: Third attempt and doing the bugged item first, leaving the bulbs and pills to after and i could finally pick up the basket and move on, still no old lady bug which made it all the more easy to get around. Still not a good game, very basic, not really scary, and a bit boring, i got the bad ending but i don't think i want to attempt another play through.

Why do these games always have such a terrible mouse-acceleration which causes looking around to make you motion sick and why do they always request from the player the same "do this, search for that"-tasks ? And by the way, this game has a nervewracking background music. Only the music title in the menu of the game sounds really good. Sorry, but no more Boleros for me. Fare well.

I truly enjoy playing a shorter horror game at night instead of watching movies. They are fun and can be quite a bit scary, always coming up with a few new ideas that I didn't expect and that manage to make me feel uneasy. 'Don't turn around or you will die.' Seriously? I loved that, combined with the footsteps behind me. Why do I even play such games at night? It's never the jump scares, it's such little ideas that keep me on the edge. of my chair.
