While this game is short, it will evoke emotions out of you. Brought me nearly to tears at the end. Great game

It's a great game but I still can't sleep at night because I accidentally pushed the cat in the beginning and it didn't understand why and neither did I. It was so sad and confused because I helped it open a gate literally 3 seconds ago and then pushed it off. I'm so sorry little kitty I will never get over this :( Please forgive me

Barely understood what was going on up until the end. Then I cried. 10/10

I almost never bother with Steam reviews, even if I really love or really hate something. But this game made me so mad I just had to get it out of my system. Inmost does so many things right. Graphics, sound, music, and story combine for a rich and gloomy atmosphere that pervades the entire game. The three-part structure, once you get used to it, is well put together and there's a clever ludonarrative consonance between the characters' stories and the way they play. The game is polished and plays well and the achievements are challenging but doable. The writing is sometimes a bit clunky but mostly does what you'd want it to, telling three intertwined stories that thematically and metaphorically parallel each other. Inmost shapes up to be a real gem. And then it throws it all away and sets itself on fire. The ending of this game is unforgiveable. Half an hour of cutscenes. The little girl's story goes from sad but fairly normal broken-family stuff to tabloid-level lurid and grotesque. The knight's story wraps up in a way that makes sense, and then we go back to the little girl so that everything the knight and wanderer's stories implied can be made absolutely, ludicrously explicit. Were you confused by any of the metaphor of the fairy tale stories? Not anymore! Let's hammer home over the course of the next half hour exactly what each part of the metaphor meant! How much of any given story to leave ambiguous or metaphorical is up to the writer, of course. I prefer more ambiguity to less, but understand when a writer wants to help the reader/player along. This isn't that. This is the writer deciding that the player is stupid. This is them deciding that there's an exact sequence of events in the story that they want the player to precisely understand without the tiniest chance of confusion or ambiguity, and they don't trust us to get it from either interpreting what people did and said in the main story, or from the heavy-handed metaphor in the fairy tale. This is the writer telling us the story, and then stopping us before we leave to say "HEY! LISTEN! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED IN THE STORY I JUST TOLD YOU!" Yes, I know! You just told it to me! Chill! (Side-note: the ending actually really does ruin the rest of the game. I did a second playthrough to clean up achievements and the story feels so cheap and stupid the second time through after all the details of the metaphor have been slammed into your skull with a two by four. Whyyyyyy) I wouldn't be so mad about this if the rest of the game weren't so well-done. Maybe you should play it anyway. Maybe you'll like it and won't be bothered by the ending. Whatever, I've got my rant out.

Games can be art, so they say. This one is one of the best examples I've ever played. The storytelling is beyond genius, the whole atmosphere grips you and doesn't let you go until the very end. If you're looking for a challenging game, you're absolutely wrong here, though. The gameplay is fun and engaging, but never really challenging. It's there to accentuate the story, to bring it a little more to life. I can't tell you much about the story, because it would spoil the experience. It is not what you expect. Not at all. It's creepy, it's tragic, it's heartbreaking and sweet. True art.

It was really short and the last half of it is basically just cinematic, there is no game play in the last half while it explains the entire story. I found the game play fun and enjoyed exploring the castle, but the story was kinda eh. I didn't understand at all until they explained the entire thing at the end. I wish there had been more clues in the game play portion to explain what was going on and which characters were which. Also by making the ending cinematic, I felt no sense of relief or accomplishment in finishing it as none of the bosses were difficult to defeat. I enjoyed the pixel art and the overall vibe of the game, but there's no replay value and the story was just ok. Spoilers ahead for the story and trigger warnings: CW: suicide, murder, child abuse (physical and through neglect) I wish stories about pain and grief didn't always have to be about suicide, murder, and family annihilators. You can lose people in very natural and normal ways and it can still create a moving and beautiful story. This story just felt like it was for shock value and I had no idea what was going on essentially till the very end.

This is a well made game. Very good ambiance, engaging puzzles that aren't too hard, great artwork. Sometimes the dialogue feels a bit meh. You may have to google 'inmost ending explained' because it wasn't clear enough for idiots like me. Deals with some heavy topics (pro) but gets a bit preachy about them (con). Game is about 3 hours long if you just run through, maybe 6 if you're careful to get all the secrets. Music is pretty baller. Overall I recommend. Just short of Almost Perfect P.S. I encountered one glitch that broke the game and made me start over 10 min in and it sucked.

Breathtaking and heartbreaking. I didn't figure out what was going on until the very end and when it hit me, I was a mess of emotions. Even through the exploration of scary and foreboding environments and themes though, I still found comfort. This is my personal take on it of course and it needs to be said that some people may find this really difficult to play. If you are pretty emotionally robust though, this has to be experienced.
