About the Game

The sequel to the popular simulation game Fishing: Barents Sea invites you to put on your captain’s hat once again: Explore the large ocean of Nova Scotia, try your hand at entirely new fishing methods and enjoy huge range of highly detailed ships in the commercial fishing simulator Fishing: North Atlantic.

Discover majestic world of Canadian Nova Scotia while admiring the vast diversity of ocean life. Explore the fishing zones with upgradable ships and gear as you progress in your career.

Like our predecessor game Fishing Barents Sea, Fishing: North Atlantic makes you experience an atmospheric and realistic game world based on real maps, boats and fish species. Get ready to enjoy new weather systems with upgraded atmospheric effects, North American Vessels and fishing techniques like harpoons, deep-line-buoy-fishing and lobster pots. Purchasing larger boats and better gear will increase your fisherman skills.

Fishing: North Atlantic offers you 29 ships at your disposal for all types of fishing styles and fishing techniques like the harpooning, which is used to hunt swordfish and tuna. Start with harpooning, then work your way up to setting deep lines, catching snow crabs or lobster. As well as longline, net and trawling. Do you have what it takes to fulfill this challenging task?

Plan the course of your fishing career throughout the whole year: Brave rain and snow while looking for the best fishing areas, but make sure that you are not in danger of exceeding your quotas! The new advanced fish-AI will require the use of GPS and sonar to follow the movement of your prey depending on weather and season.

Ok so where do I start. The game title is fishing north Atlantic, well I'll put it simple this does not show how we fish in eastern Canada what so ever. They basically took the equipment from Barents sea and put it here. we do not use that equipment it's completely different. The lobster well the traps are wrong no one uses those anymore , no idea why they would put old fashioned traps and not the new style traps. The crab fishing well let's just say I guess they thought Alaska was part of the north Atlantic and made replicas of two deadliest catch boats the saga and northwestern. Like that's a insult to me period. Iam a commercial fisherman from eastern Canada and that is no way near how crab is done around here period. I have no idea what they were thinking. Two big shockers for me was there was no scallop fishing.NO SCALLOP FISHING. The game takes part in Nova Scotia where scalloping is huge. They only really added one other fish , the silver hake and I was shocked to find out no halibut when that's huge here . There's still mackerel but guess what instead of fishing it OUR way the Canadian way they just stuck the lunar bow in and that's for mackerel when in reality we use gillnets and handlines also mackerel traps for fishing that. I think I'm so frustrated because there's people who bought this game and actually think that's how it is in Canada when really it's far off. How can you name a game Fishing North Atlantic and it's basically a Barents sea cover...like devs come on do your homework how did u think that no one would catch on? Did u think that no one from Canada would buy the game?...you visited Nova Scotia like you guys didn't take notes? Didn't go to any of the wards and check how the boats are rigged up??like we can't Evan bait lines at sea like do they think we really go out there with one set of gear baited no extra bait like just WHAT?? I hope one of you Developers see this message I'm not trying to put you guys down or say you didn't do a good job. You guys have been working hard to take the bugs out and fix it . This is a POV from a real fisherman from east coast Canada, if anyone buys this game just realize you are truly not getting the north Atlantic fishing style. Developers I just don't understand how you thought you could put a bunch of stuff from Barents sea and think that everyone will think that's how it is here. I don't know I think you should of done alot more homework on the Canadian fisheries. You insulted me not sure if you did to anyone else but yeah. You could of done this alot better....

If you're new to these games, FIshing: North Atlantic is the way to go over FIshing: Barents Sea. But if you already own Barents Sea, this is an expensive "upgrade" for not many new features and many of the same problems. Devs have stated that this is a rebuilt game from ground up. Many things are different, and many seem to be exactly the same. I liked the maps on Barents Sea better - mainly because when I'd run out of room trawling it was due to hitting ice and damaged the ship, which could be repaired. In North Atlantic it's due to running out of map and completely destroys the ship. (By the time I got warnings and tried to turn around, it was too late.) I like the tutorials, though I had to abandon the net due to no fish being caught and then out of season errors. Haven't tried net fishing with a crew. They can also be very hard to complete in rough water - by the time you travel to line controller, the ships drift away from the zone. Some may like the harpoon fishing, although it seemed more like heaps of work for very little reward to me. Trawling has always been my favourite form of fishing in these games. But it's actually better in Barents Sea for these reasons: The warp line warnings (which I haven't found a way to disable) cover the cursor making it very difficult to quickly adjust the warp lines. I've lost several trawls due to this alone, as sometimes the net fills immediately. Never lost a trawl in Barents Sea. Barents Sea offered a control for moving doors slightly to 1 side, and up and down, which I found very useful. That function has been removed from North Atlantic. Both suffer from the same random "thud", with doors jumping up and Scanmar resetting, for no apparent reason - happens on every single trip for me (Hermes) while cruising along at 3.5 knots and fairly shallow doors. FIne if I'd hit something, but that shouldn't cause Scanmar to reset. Nothing appears on scanmar or map prior to this happening. Line and deep line fishing work well and look good. Control for the hooks seems more stable than in Barents Sea. Overall I very much enjoy this game. Devs are still delivering updates with fixes constantly, so that's impressive. But frankly, $49 AUD seems like a lot to pay considering it's the same basic game as Barents Sea. :)

Great game until I realized there was nothing left to purchase in the game. I bought every ship, every upgrade, started the game over, did the same thing. Loved the game, I just wish they had other things to purchase and strive for.

Edit: With the latest update the game looks brand new! Waves are now the best of any game I've played, and the storms and sunrise/sunsets are incredible. The short and sweet: cool premise and setting, nice relaxing gameplay with a lot of glitches. The devs are really attentive, hard working, and passionate. One of my all time favorite games. Huge thank you to the devs for this absolute gem!!! This game is what I've been looking for, I found out about the deadliest catch PC game but it was only on disk and hard to find. For a long time I simply dreamed of a game like this. Fishing: Barents Sea came out, very mixed reviews in the beginning so I steered clear. This game launched, in an allbeit troublesome state. Pros: The game now is everything I wanted out of a game, my own ship, customization (not going to lie it was a surprise to me, and a real treat), relaxing gameplay with satisfying mini-game mechanics (not just press a button), and great graphics. Cons: There's two main downsides to Fishing: North Atlantic 1: The game is still riddled with bugs, some of which will completely ruin your day if you're not prepared. But, just like older games, all that is necessary to mitigate this is run multiple saves and mash that good ole F5 for quick saving, do this and aside from the occasional visual glitches this is no problem. 2: Finding fish, and catching said fish is sometimes easy, and other times a fart in a hurricane. You buy tips from Bars (in the town tab at ports) these tips are very approximate and not at all accurate but give you a nice general idea of where to start looking. The other critical tool, unless scallop dredging, is sonar which is essentially your actual eyes on what's beneath you. As soon as you see your Target fish appear on sonar lay your nets/pots, once all your gear is set skip time to when they're ready to collect. Personally the only issue I've had is with lobsters, which is great fun while it works . But after about 10 hours strip mining the habitat without closing the game (extinction turned off) I had no tips for finding more habitats, and I simply couldn't find anything on my own. Turns out in this dark scenario you want to piggyback off of your fellow fishermen, find the idle fishing boats and start scanning their area with sonar, I managed to score another entire habitat/school of lobsters this way. Seagulls are another tell, granted I'm pretty sure not for ocean floor dwelling critters. Quick tips: only turn into port when you have full cargo or are out of bait. Do some online research and forum searching. Save early, and for the love of everything good do it often. Keep in mind I've only played easy for 20 hours, roughly 10 of which was lobster hunting and another 10 was glorious scallop dredging, which is a year round species that is far too lucrative to ignore. P.S. will continue to play and eventually start a hard mode career and do all fishing types, I will update this review as I go along. P.P.S. There are a LOT of bugs, but go in with this expectation and save pariodically and you will be happy with your purchase. And get the scallop DLC, really nice boats with awesome mechanics but if you like a challenge don't buy it till you earn a decent chunk of cash in-game because it's just so lucrative it's more of a mid-late game treat with an entry level boat cheaper than the easy starter boat's sell price.

The game is so-so. It's fun to have that RPG element but there's a lot of bugs that make me feel frustrated. For example, you can purchase upgrades for your ship. Maybe something will show as 3 slots but then you actually only get 2 then that option just disappears all together then might come back again later. Furthermore bugs aside, once you get the big ships, the rest of the boats feel pointless. I feel like I'm striving to get the big ship to be the big dog in the ocean but then it's like ok... now what? Nothing. Fish more and do nothing with your money. There is no end game it just flatlines immediately.

Spent 53 hours in this game, reached 3 million in revenue. And for a "full release game" I got a half assed demo filled with glitches and bugs. Yeah, you'll have fun in this game, for a time, you'll earn millions and buy bigger and bigger and better ships to earn more and more but eventually you're game will crash or freeze, or it will glitch and all of your hours upon hours upon hours upon hours upon hours upon hours of progress will be lost, and it will not be your fault. A Lobster pot will become glitched and wont be able to be freed thus you can not save. So you must restart. A fishing line will become lost and deleted thus you can not save and you must restart, This game has great potential, but it falls on its own ass. F:NA fix your glitches and your buggs. I mean it when I say you are my biggest regret.
