This is proof that demos work. I would never have gotten this game had I not experienced the demo beforehand. Try the demo. It's a long demo, so you'll know if you like it. Protip if you're starting out: build on higher ground. You'll see why.

It's a great game even in early access. it's subnautica on a mars-like world. BUT BE WARNED - DO NOT START BUILDING A BASE on lower ground, eventually the whole base will be swallowed up into a lake, find some decently high ground or it will break your game many hours in as it did to me. I had to watch as the water line slowly drew closer and closer to everything i had build until it was too late. developers - please stress to players more heavily than a very vague hint about building in altitude. the fact that the default landing zone is in an area that becomes a lake is going to cause this issue for many people if you don't somehow warn them more clearly.

I just want to give a HUGE kudos to the TWO DEVS who are creating this game. It does have it's small issues but so far this game is a LOT of fun and although it seems a bit barebones at first, once you get further into the game it is full of depth in the systems that they use while still being easy to understand. I would LOVE to see this game open up to Steam Workshop content for the community to create their own mods etc and add even more to this great GEM of a game. I 100% recommend that everyone at least download the DEMO and try it, if you like it then the progress from the demo version saves over to the full game once you purchase it. SLIGHT HELPFUL SPOILERS/TIPS BELOW!!! (Do not read further if you don't want to see them!): . . . . . . . . . . --------------------------------------------------------- Build on higher ground than the starting area as sooner or later with terraformation come bodies of water. If you plan on building a large base then look into the larger Desert Biomes as they have more flat land. Read ALL of the email communications as they give you hints on what to do sometimes and also provide a better look into the background of the story line. Don't be afraid to EXPLORE! Take plenty of rations with you to keep you alive but get out there and look for whatever you can! If you think you can't go somewhere and wonder if there is something there? Look anyways!!! Be careful when you do explore though as there are unfinished areas of the game along the outer edges being that it is in Early Access (I'm sure the devs have plans for these areas later) As the game description says, the planet reacts to your actions during the terraforming process which is what makes this game so great! Take the time to ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY!

Best game I've played in a long time. I thought it was going to be dumb, but figured why not since the demo is free. Got hooked and woke up from a daze 7 hours later after playing it nonstop. 10/10 would recommend. It has some minor issues, but all in all for a indie developed game made by two people it's better than a lot of AAA games with multi-million dollar budgets. PLAY THE DEMO, YOU WONT REGRET IT.

Lovely game! Absolutely recommended :) The gameplay resembles "Subnautica on land" because you need to explore the game world with its different biomes, you'll gather and grow ressources, craft and build (equipment, bases and different types of machinery). Later on you can even dive into large lakes, (albeit currently without underwater plants), plus just like Subnautica, the game is not providing you with actual quests other than the tutorial tasks (no rewards for those) and is not really telling any story to follow (so far), instead you'll find messages that others (NPCs) have left here and there with a bit of a background story. Your task of terraforming a planet is really unique though, and that's why I'm in love with Planet Crafter :) It's awesome to behold how the look of the barren desert game-world changes into a beautiful green scenery with blue sky, all caused by the work of your own hands. It's really cool to watch how the lakes fill up, how the ice melts, the water level rises (and rises, rises, and then rises even more!), how the yellow-orange sand slowly turns into green "moss", how grass tufts start to sprout, how algaes start to form around your growers on the water, grass and beautiful flowers grow anywhere you want them to, then even unique looking types of trees... And I totally love the (new) different kinds of meteor showers! Another unique task of this game is building "base camps" along your way to provide yourself with oxygen and water at first, also storage, later on with food etc. This is something that I always loved to do (like in GRAV for example), but no other game than Planet Crafter actually requires. Plus: plundering the wrecked space-ships and underground hideaways is a real fun activity too :D The game is very well made, I didn't find any game-breaking bugs found so far even though the game is still in EA :) Just beware of saving and reloading inside of wrecks ;) FYI: I've currently only just reached "insect stage" and a "fish stage" will be up next. It's a nice thought that we can bring the initially "dead" planet to life this way :) Can't believe these amazing graphics were made by only two people! Love the large space-ship-wrecks so much ^_^ Their different shapes look really cool. And the bunks even come with small toilets - so cute :D Actually, everything else is awesomely designed too: the many things we can craft and build, the lovely sky, the meteors that come crashing down, the falling sand from the cliffs - it all looks very beautiful and makes your stay on this planet enjoyable :) Story-wise there's still work to do though I guess... Well, it's EA after all, so let's see how this will evolve :) Also in terms of game balance, I'm not 100% happy (yet) - while being aware that everyone has their own ideas and taste of course. Here's some additional thoughts: 1. We're a convict with the task of terraforming a cold desert planet and bringing it to (green) life. Someone (presumely the "Sentinel Corps" that left the message on the screen in our capsule) must have invested a lot of money: we were brought to this planet, were dropped down in a sturdy capsule, we got a fine space suit and a sophisticated multitool. On the other hand we aren't provided with much food in order to survive, and we brought no seeds to grow?! Even worse: our food grower blueprint is not available from the start? This significantly reduces our chance to survive and by that our chance to fulfill our task. If we fail, all the investments for this project will have been for naught... This does not make much sense to me. * Possible solution: just let the food grower blueprint unlock very early in the game or even be unlocked from the start, and provide us with at least one pack of seeds. We'll need to find aluminium in order to craft the food grower anyways and then we will also have to wait for the food to grow. ** I'd like it if the different game modes could come with different starting options - relaxed game mode with more and better seeds for example, while hardcore mode could come with accidentally spoiled seeds so that we'll have to find seed packs first. 2. (Randomly) filled chests are lying around all over the place. Also: you'll find better and rarer stuff depending on your terraforming progress. Why? Who dropped those in the middle of nowhere - and why would chests in your starting area contain much rarer stuff if you only open them later in the game? * Possible solution: wouldn't it make more sense if we found backpacks next to spacefarer's remains (empty spacesuits or something) instead of chests? ** Wouldn't it be better to have fixed findings in all those storage containers - but differently depending on the chosen difficulty mode? The current randomness will just make players save the most chests for later, and also will lead them to saving their game progress just before opening any storage container, then reloading until the randomly generated content will satisfy them... 3. So we can deconstruct chests, a few solar panels, heaters and specific iron girders, but nothing else in those really large wrecks? I would love it if we could gain cloth by deconstructing bunk beds in spaceships rather than randomly collecting cloth from chests. Actually: the more we could deconstruct and re-use/recycle or even fix in order to make it work again, the better in my opinion ;) 4. How believable is it to build a whole building module that also procudes oxygen (!) out of nothing but iron and titanium? And we don't even have to craft semi-manufactured products beforehand for such large multifunctional objects? Not even to speak of Biodomes T2 with several tree types inside even though we don't use any tree seeds for their construction... * Possible solution: how about adding oxygen-producing algae or slime or so to the buildings? Basically an organic substance that our capsule should have integrated somewhere, since it too produces oxygen? We could take part of this substance from the capsule and when erecting a building, this substance would be put either in tanks next to the door in order to produce oxygen, or maybe even into a whole layer of the building. After it multiplies with the help of sunlight, we could then again gather a part of it in order to erect more buidings that will produce oxygen as well ... and so on. 5. I'm also a bit irritated by message screens left by former crash-survivors, while our crafted "signs" are much smaller and we cannot write and leave behind message screens ourselves. * Possible solution: it would be nice to read different messages - those that were sent to the now-wrecked ships or abandoned bases (so that they could provide bits of the game world's background-story) rather than "last words" left by the castaways themselves... ** Alternatively, I'd actually also be happy enough if we could "write" our own message screens ourselves too just like the shipwrecked ones did ;)

Don't you DARE to build at the starting area, find an area with higher a bit altitude. Thank me later.

This is obviously early access. The world feels more barren than intended, the resources you gather are scattered in a way that feels odd. Their models feel out of place with just a random piece of iron laying on the ground (you do not mine nodes, you pick up singular items). World collision is poorly mapped, you can clip through most cliffs/rocks. However. They have "the thing" that makes the game good. A feeling that is just right. When you've increased the atmospheric pressure enough so the sky turns blue is really satisfying. When you have increased biomass by spamming your location with grass spreaders and you see moss start to grow all over your barren world you can relax and know that this world will in time be less hostile, more habitable and a lot more welcoming to future settlers. TL;DR: If you can't handle some rough edges of early access please wait. If you think that game mechanics are more important than a game feeling polished this is for you.
