This game made me want to play games that challenge me again. My first time playing this game I thought it was just a cute little quirky space sim and I bounced off of it quickly running to other games in my library that offered more instant gratification. But upon seeing multiple reviewers I respect call this the best game of the last decade, I decided I had to know what's up. For context, I have huge attention span issues and I typically have to be listening to external music and/or a podcast to sit down for a decently long gaming session. Games with lots of text or cutscenes usually are tough to play for me because of this, and I initially thought this game would be the same way. There is a LOT of reading in this game, but somehow, some way I found it absolutely riveting. There are so many twists and turns and this is the first time a line of text on a screen has made me get up from my chair and shout at the screen. Not only did this game capture my attention, it made me reflect on how much I'm missing out on by the specific way I play games. I will always love playing doom eternal on ultraviolence with loud music and a podcast blasting my ears all at once, but now I'm looking to have more varied experiences. Right now I'm queuing up baldurs gate 3, and I don't know if I would've done that before this game. Thank you outer wilds, for challenging me to love video games in a different way. I love this video game.

10/10 Beautiful combination of puzzle and mystery solving exploration accompanied by a brilliant soundtrack and character writing. Best experienced with no prior knowledge since discovering new things is such a key component to the enjoyment and drive to keep playing.

Many rate this game on the merirts of what it can be, what it can mean, what it was for them. I would like to rate this game on what it is: A game. And as such, it is good. It isn't world-shattering, it isn't mind-bending. It is a game with semi-cluncky controls, with a mechanic that often forces you to wait out events while watching stuff you have watched 10 times before, a game that often doesn't make clear what it wants from you - if it wants anything at all. If you have a lot of free time that you can afford to invest into this project without haste, without the necessety of entertainment - go for it. But do not expect this to awaken something in you if you come from work every day or if you only have a week of vacation in which you want to do something fun. Most comments here take this as some sort of philosphical excouse into the nature of existence itself, but if you simply want to pla a game, this is not for you. It might be wasted on you or it might be too bad at what it primerily is (a game), that is a matter of opinion, but it is simply not for you.

An absolutely incredible game. It mixes beauty and gameplay perfectly. It has an incredible captivating story and an amazing premise. I'm not sure i'll ever have an experience quite like stepping into the cockpit and realizing how many things there were to do and explore.

It's a game. The hourglass has 22 minutes worth of sand. Seriously though, don't look outside the game for clues. The exploration and discovery is the fun. Every clue brings you closer. The game loop is addicting, especially if you like being a detective and analysing clues. Stop trying to beat the game and you'll eventually beat it. I'm not being cryptic, just saying that this game is not meant for 'Content Locusts.' The game reduces your understanding of reality to that of an infant, and you have to tap into that dormant part of your brain to explore and figure out what, who, why, where and how. - in that order.. the when is irrelevant. If you're going to play this game, remove all your expectations. Don't assume anything. Don't watch someone play it on youtube and don't read a guide. Instead, spend the first few hours exploring the world like an infant that just learned how to walk. Eventually, the game world feels like a old comfortable shoe as you piece together the clues. I can't say I've ever played any other game like Outer Wilds. I doubt you have either.

If you are reading this, STOP READING REVIEWS. Don't watch the let's plays, don't read the game articles, don't do anything. I went into this game knowing literally nothing about it. I was just saw it on the recommended page in the store, and was like, "huh. looks cool. sure." And you know what? That seemingly dumbass decision lead to one of the best experiences I've ever had playing a video game. Trust me, the less you know about this game going into it, the better of an experience you will have.

Everyone says that Outer Wilds is best experienced when you know nothing about it before jumping in. And they're right. But still, this makes it difficult for an outsider to decide whether or not they want to buy the game (yes you should); so I'm going to try and describe the kind of game it is and what the experience is like, without spoiling anything. This game is a spatial exploration game in a fictional solar system, mostly based on uncovering the knowledge and actions of an ancient civilization. The game is entirely based on discovery and information gathering; your ship log records what you learn, and that's your progression. There is no other character progression than the knowledge you accumulate. Early on in the game, you'll find that something is going very wrong. There's a mystery that you will want to solve, and the only way you'll solve it is by going out in the universe, gathering clues and piecing them together. You decide where to go and what to do based on your own curiosity and desire to learn; when you explore a place, you learn things that give you background knowledge and/or hints about how to get past obstacles in other places. If you find yourself blocked, go explore another planet: chances are the information on how to overcome what's blocking you is written somewhere else. The game is totally non-linear and encourages you to try new things. At first, you get scattered bits and pieces of information and you don't understand anything, it's totally baffling. Then, as you get more bits, you start seeing connections and elaborating theories on what the hell is happening. This is a very exciting and enthralling part of the game, the reason why spoilers are so bad for this game, and the reason why you shouldn't use Internet guides. Making hypotheses and figuring out where you need to go next in order to check these hypotheses is a huge part of the fun and the experience, and you shouldn't spoil yourself out of it. Then you get key elements of information, and the pieces of the puzzle start falling into place. In the end, when you've almost explored everything, you finally understand what's going on, and it's incredible. Everything is cohesive, all the things that you couldn't figure out at start make perfect sense, and you're awestruck by the immaculate story put together by the developers, and by the grandeur and beauty of it all. And in the same moment, you know exactly what you need to do to finish the game. During the whole experience, you meet a lot of characters. Your fellow Hearthian explorers, who each have their own personality, but also Nomai characters whose lives you read about on the walls they left behind, and you grow attached to them. The game isn't only a pleasure for the deductive center of the brain; it's full of emotion, too, and the end of the game is powerful enough to make the most cold-hearted of us melt into a puddle of tears. This game is unique, it's exciting, it's nerve-wracking at times, it's fun, it's tragic, it's heart string-pulling, it's awe-inspiring, and my only regret is that it can only be fully experienced once. Once you have played it, it will be your regret too.
