Regret that I didn't find this game earlier. Mechanics are truly well implemented with forethought. Art Style - Rimworld Progression - Terraria Mechanics - Don't Starve :D Food & Farming :D - Minecraft TDLR: This game slaps.

If you like Terraria, Minecraft, Core Keeper, or Necesse, this game is for you! Though the graphics look more like another popular base-building game, RimWorld, Keplerth focuses more on exploration, story, and combat. The base-building aspect is vastly simplified in comparison to RW... but don't let that be off-putting! While you don't have to manage your colonists going on a drinking binge because they "ate without a table", you have the challenging and rewarding task of managing your genes. Akin to Tetris, you must collect and pack your genes into an allotted space within your character. Genes can be found doing a wide variety of tasks from killing mobs to even plant farming! But the better the gene, the more complex the shape, making it so that you can't just turn yourself into the most OP god-mode character out there. You have to pick and choose, making difficult sacrifices to get the best genetic combination you can manage. Note: This also adds a large repeatability value, with different combinations of genes to try every time! Outside of the highly rewarding and deeply rich genetic components, this game also offers a unique levelling system for many of the world-wide objects you interact with. You can level your weapons, armor, animals, ores... the list goes on! Almost anything can be powered up and upgraded in some way, making it so that your favorite equipment scales alongside you. There are vanity slots for your armor so that you can ride your dragon in style. RIDE?! Dragon?! Yes, this game offers a HUGE array of creatures you can tame, breed, and ride. From dragons to zombies, there's a perfect mount or pet for just about everyone! The game's music is fitting and unoffensive, albeit a little repetitive at times. Lastly, there's a story to you get to discover as you play! Scattered around the world are various "discoveries" that give you important clues as to what happened and why your character is in the situation they're in. During my 20 hours of playing, I have discovered roughly 12/75 of these objects, making scouring the world a rewarding task. NOTE: One HUGE reason I recommend this game, but forgot to mention. The multiplayer. Keplerth has succeeded where MANY have failed. If you want to play with friends, it is a seamless transition. Vanilla or modded, you just join with Steam and are instantly together. Over 800 miles away, there was practically NO lag between me and my friend. The connection was stable, fast, and a one-click setup. For me, this is a HUGE selling feature, especially when compared to the hassle it takes to play a game like Minecraft: Java Edition with friends. What blows me away is that, while my game was modded, my friend had vanilla. And yet I could use my mods on her world with NO issue whatsoever. The cross-compatibility between the modded and non-modded experience is something I have never experienced so flawlessly, before. This means that Keplerth is the PERFECT game to play with your friends! For cons, I haven't found many. There are some minor translation bugs which, as my bestie puts it, are "almost endearing". As mentioned, the music could stand to have more variety. For longer play sessions, it can get a little old. That's really it. That's all the cons I have found thus far. All in all, I think Keplerth is a criminally underrated masterpiece. The developers have clearly worked hard to make the game so great and I'm HYPED to see what updates come in the future! I can definitely see Keplerth ending up becoming one of my all-time favorites. And at the current price point, it's 1000% worth the buy!

Fun game. Imo, a mixture of the following: Terraria Rimworld Crashlands Stardew Valley Starbound So if you liked any/all of the above then you'll probably enjoy this. 100%ed the game in 30 hours - though some achievements were more tedious than I'd have liked. My gripe with this game is that it has been in development for over 4 years and yet the content is a bit sparse imo. Once you complete it and get all the achievements (if that's your thing) - there's not much else to do unless you like building pretty bases and stuff or messing around in multiplayer. It also feels like the game isn't very well known/devs didn't work on marketing - the wiki is almost completely empty as well, so I wonder if that's because people don't really have a reason to continue playing once they finish. If devs read this - the best way to make this game more popular is to work on replayability/some kind of gameplay loop to keep people coming back.

THIS GAME IS STORY BASED, NOT OPEN ENDED. Buyer Beware. Fun, yes. Excellent game. Worth getting? if you know it's story based, and not open ended, sure. What do I want this game to be? Rimworld, with the open ended feeling of Conan Exiles. What is the game really like? Diablo 2 and NES Zelda had a baby with the skin of Rimworld for a face. VERY DIFFERENT FROM RIMWORLD! NOT A RIMWORLD ADVENTURE GAME! Buyer be Educated. Fun in it's own right, but look up some live gameplay for reference before buying.

I created a town with only hot tubs, and they're filled to the brim with people who are so addicted they can't leave. They enjoy their upper class lifestyle while I extort money from them. I then use the tax money to buy copper/iron gear, so that I don't have to mine it myself. As I get stronger, the citizens know they're well protected from the aliens and goblins that commonly invade. I defend my hot tubs and they give me money, win-win for everyone! edit: a giant boar destroyed my hot tubs and half of the population

This isn't RIMWORLD. Not even close. This gives you direct control of the character unlike the menu-driven / command-driven controls of that game. If you've played Necesse, and you enjoyed it, you'll find more of the same here without the world being broken up into 'maps', as it's seamless with the only switching happening when you use portals or change z-levels. You walk around gather resources / fight monsters / get stronger, rinse-repeat. The town / village simulation is almost superficial, it's only a means to rent rooms and get money as settlers will not help you 'work' things in the settlement in this respect (such as harvest food etc). There are animals you can breed, which produce resources. There are also monsters to tame and use as a mount (enhanced movement speeds are an example), and you can also have one follow you to help you fight game monsters. I believe you can also create replicas, but I haven't delved into that as I prefer to go solo, but it is a strong-point of the game from what I hear. The strongest point? Not only can you choose a character class to start with some differences, but you can customize your character with various traits you can learn and invest in, creating a unique build every time. These traits include pretty much every stat buff or modifier, more health, better attack, more chance of evasion, and so-forth and so-on. Armor can also be buffed after it's made through special workstations. Unique armor and weapons can sometimes have buffs (such as double shot or less hunger while wielding) which can tip the odds in your favor. Weapons and armor need to be repaired from time to time as-do your tools also. This isn't an annoyance but it is a feature, versus some games where it's just a pain in the rear. While you can dance around some of the early bosses, you will have quite a tough time even on easy or medium keeping alive when fighting the later bosses - especially the last few. Plenty of content for the price, no complaints here on that. I'd really recommend, but this isn't the psych-ward simulator or village-simulator that RimWorld is, no matter how much they look similar. Seriously, look elsewhere if you want another Rimworld. THIS. IS. NOT. RIMWORLD. *PERIOD*! That said this game is totally awesome in it's own right, and entirely worth the price regardless of a sale. Development is slow but steady, but current content is still sufficient for dozens of hours of play-time unless you speed through it. There's not much any grinding as you don't gain 'levels' like in an RPG, but there may be some if you want to get 'the best' weapon drop from a boss or rare other monster - which CAN be worth it to many. Other games like this one are Necesse, I think if you enjoy that one you'll love this too, though Necesse development seems faster in my own opinion. Both games are great in their own rights. While the game features 'blood' it's more or less cartoony compared to most games, and shouldn't bar you from letting your pre-teen child play this. Youtube is a good resource for "let's play" type videos for you to learn more and see if this game is for you. If this review has helped, then by all means please hit the thumbs up.

WARNING ALPHA REVIEW! Take this with a grain of salt since this is my thoughts during Alpha. Is this a good game? No. It's an exceptional TECH DEMO. At first glance this looks like a beautiful baby between Crashlanders and Rimworld, if you've ever seen a youtuber play this you can see that the graphics for this title is exceptional, it's a beautiful world and its a simple joy to wander around and see a lush world filled with goblins. Sadly the developer has primarily focused curretn development on player races and while the multiple choices are beautiful, the game suddenly hits its one major hiccup. The gameplay is non existant. There is the beginnings of a mission system to ease you in to the game but its very simplistic and only has like four or five tasks. You are then thrust into an open world that really has nothing going for it. You can build a base if you want but there's no real point to it, crafting is limited to your basic tools and furniture, though the latter really doesn't do anything for you except for storage space to dump the multitude of resources that give very little variance in gameplay. Enemies are varied but all default to a basic: Charge at and hit when in range or if weilding a bow: Shoot like a machine gun at you. The only real difference between enemies is how bullet spongey they are with 'boss' creatures taking forever to kill... for the same loot that you could find in chests for 100x the ease. The most crippling mechanic is the hunger system. While it makes sense that your character gets hungry and requires food the current system sees you getting hungry every time you swing a tool. At the same time it also steadily empties your satiety bar at a regular pace because your character is obviously suffering from the universes worst tape worm. What's even worse? The stronger enemies never have to suffer from hunger. They can punch faster than an AK-47 on full auto but will NEVER slow down. While you? Half a dozen swings your crippled from your hunger bar suddenly disappearing in a few seconds cause you attacked alot. In short I don't recommend this game for anyone to play CURRENTLY. It's a tech demo not a game. There's alot of indication of what this COULD be down the road, but take that with a grain of salt, down the road is a long time to wait to throw money at a product that does NOT play well gameplay wise. Technical wise, grab it to support the dev and wait for the game it *hopefully* will become.
