  Neutral recommendation. Real time strategy game in a space dune environment. But it's not my favorite type of gameplay. Your main unit (carrier) can train all other units, is quite tanky and can also be used offensively. This game is much more micro oriented (repairing units is free, units can rank up based on experience) than macro oriented. Pros: Level design of the campaign is nice, it is quite fast paced. You can keep your army / resources from one mission so it really feels like a campaign. Cons: The campaign is a bit short (a bit more than 10 hours).

  This game is VERY rudimentary. It came out in 2016 and commits 2 cardinal sins of rts gaming. 1) arrow-key panning instead of WASD, which wouldn't be a huge issue if not for 2) no keybind remapping. So to use WASD panning of the camera, you have to run a 3rd party script on your PC to turn your WASD keys into the arrow keys, and since there is no remapping of keybinds, you just lose the functionality of your WASD keymaps in issuing orders and such. Another issue is that you can't drag out unit formations. So they just go from where they are to where they're going in whatever orientation, making it neigh on impossible to line up your units on top of a sand dune unless you single select them. And exposing your flank to enemies constantly. As such, this game is primarily about swarming the enemy with superior numbers rather than any kind of tactical engagement. The most tactics there are are the rock, paper, scissors of light vehicles, armored assault vehicles, and railguns. Very, very basic. Later you get access to some basic aircraft and AA. It's all just super rudimentary. The game constantly breaks the gameplay cycle with cutscenes. In the first few campaign missions, you'll be watching more cutscenes than actually playing. The AI pathing is horrible. You can tell a baserunner to place a turret, and it'll do a 200-point turn around the spot and spin out until you tell it to put it 10 feet to the left of original location. Same goes for the main character's vehicle, the support cruisers, and anything that actually has a hitbox which interacts with other vehicles. They get stuck behind each other. They clip all over the place. It's just not a good time. It feels like to me they spent way too much time, energy, and money on the cutscenes and not nearly enough on the gameplay. Because for every mission there will be an intro cutscene, potentially multiple within the mission, and at the end of the mission another, and then when it shows you stats for the mission there is a full voice acted diary log from one of the characters. Like if half of that went into making the gameplay better, I think it would have served this game A LOT. At least you might be able to remap keybinds. I would give this game a 4/10 maybe. There's nothing it really does well. Everything is serviceable, but that's about it. If you're interested, wait for a big ole sale to make it worth your time in my opinion. And be prepared for a LOT of waiting around for cutscenes.

  This hurts to type. I love the Homeworld franchise, I love this game. I'm hyped for H3. The 1.4 patch bricked this game due to persistent online connectivity to Epic Online Services. Single player campaign, game saves, the exit game button are now locked out to requiring connection to EOS.
