  Being a developer who built this game 20 years ago, this is one of the most loved projects I worked on. The people I was lucky enough to work with were wonderful and we just synced together to make this fun and "most army men" game we could. So many wonderful things about this process and game... the story theme that Matt, Tristan and Dan came up with was just superb. The voice acting was wonderful, and the gameplay from the designers just made it a lot of fun - we often played it once we had running multiplayer - Matt hated how I would do grunt rushes to break their balancing :) The artwork is still very in-keeping with the Army Men world, and I still think this is the best Army Men title (yeah.. Im biased too :) ). Brian, Lachlan and Kasey just did an amazing job art wise. It wouldnt have been so wonderful otherwise. And finally coding with Aaron and Andy with Brendan at the helm, it was a blast. Great times in Brissy, and great people to share it with. Wishing you all the best.. if you ever read this. Dave.

  Weird Nostalgia When I was young me and my father would play this on the GameCube (this was before my parents divorced and before seeing my dad was a rare occurrence). We never finished the game because a freak power outage caused our GC to short-circuit and break, but a few years ago I found the game in a box in our garage. Sadly it didn't work due to all the damage it took while in storage, but now I find it again on Steam of all places? HELL YEAH! Love this game and can't wait to finally beat it!

  Oh boy! Old days are back in steam! this game/series brings back so many warm memories when you played this nonstop when you were a kid talking about nostalgia! <3

  This was my introduction to RTS games and the strategy genre of games as a whole. I first played this game on my dad's PS2 when I was about 5, and I fell in love. I played the hell out of it day and night. This game perfectly embodied what I had always wanted: a game where I could command toy soldiers. Once I saw it on Steam, I just had to relive the memories. Okay, that's enough backstory, so let's get down to the review: [b]Side Note: This game runs perfectly fine on my Windows 10.[/b] [h1]The Pros:[/h1] +Solid story. +Solid voice acting (for a 2002 game). +Graphics are exactly what you'd expect from an early 2000s game. +Nice unit variety. +Creative missions. +Fairly high replayability. +Nostalgia trip for Army Men fans. [h1]The Cons:[/h1] -Unit pathfinding isn't all that great. -Multiplayer requires at least 2 players to play, even with bots, and the servers are offline. Although, there is a mod out there that allows you to play multilplayer with just you and bots, also you can use Gameranger to play online. I love this game. It's an instant classic and I strongly recommend it to fans of RTS games.

  Army Men RTS is old-school jank. There's only one-button control (LMB to move, issue attack orders, and the like), unit collision makes it difficult to move around groups of troops and even for resource collection to take place, really weird unit balance, stuck at 4:3 resolution, hard 100 unit limit, the works. Mainly, you'll just want to get this game for the nostalgia, and it's hard to recommend it for anything but that. There are a few bits that do help with recommending this game to newcomers, however. First, a rather fun campaign, which is nice. Seeing how modern RTS somehow can't manage the single-player campaign well enough, Army Men RTS' rather well-constructed missions are a breath of fresh air, despite having been rotting away unused for years. Second, there's something oddly satisfying about playing this game, even though getting through the old-school controls are rather difficult. If you've played with plastic army men in the past, this helps with reliving that nostalgic joy. The last bit is something interesting I've never seen done in any RTS before. When units die, they turn into a harvestable resource node that you can collect. To my knowledge, no other RTS has actually repicated this method of resource collecting, and considering normal resource nodes deplete, this leads to some rather interesting gameplay on building your expansions and sending your collectors to old battlefields to collect the corpses of both your enemies and your own units. While this tends not to matter much in the campaign, it is still done well enough, and makes it interesting enough towards being a point towards recommending this game. Not much else to say. It is a -really- old game, so it is heavily janky. But if you can get past that jank, you get a pretty good old school RTS, lost between the cracks caused by giants like Age of Empires, Command and Conquer, and Warcraft III. To many, it's just an old disc you thought you'd lost, blow off the dust and play for a few hours. But there's a few bits of lost knowledge that maybe, just maybe, others can salvage and build into a new future of RTS games.

  Is a great Game but Doesn't run on a large percetage of user's machines. With no possible tech support, or users able to figure out how to get the game running. It's pretty much an invisible Paperweight, and I'd highly recommend not buying the game. (As of 2019 a user found a fix for this and it's available on the Guide Section, so the game can run now for just about everyone, so if you're having this problem look in the user guide section on steam.) There really needs to be rules put into place revolving around digital sales of older games, ie that they have to be patched to work on modern systems. Some devs who release older games do this but sadly this is not one of them, and that should be ILLEGAL.

  This game was part of my childhood. I would play this all day everyday. Even had EXF version downloaded before it came to steam. But my god playing this again brought back so many memories.
