Ord Salamon a cryptologist who struggled to finish his Ph.D. thesis. His friend gifted him a novel of his favorite author who died recently and with that, his adventure started after he found a hidden code. The story follows by him helping the author's daughter Sera to find the hidden will her father left her, but the story not as simple as that as it becomes darker. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1459324213 I loved the voice overs, the conversations felt realistic, music was good too and the visual is just a classic point and click game style. I've encountered some issues such as unable to click on items due to the small clicking areas and pixel hunting. At the beginning of the game, I couldn't locate the phone in his room! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1459380623 Some of the puzzles are hard to solve and they are unskippable, I had to use a guide for help, I even used the guide to know where should I go next, it was quite confusing in some of the areas. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1459402953 Pros: +Nice retro graphics. +Good soundtracks. +Detective style. +Likable characters. +Fast travel map. +Interesting dark story. (Not for everyone) +Good voice acting. +Steam achievements. Cons: -Sometimes the objectives are not clear even if you read the journal. You'll wander around to find what to do next. I didn't expect this ending at all, the game has many twists but that adds to its charm. The length of the game is good, around seven hours of the adventure. I recommend it for Point & Click lovers who don't mind dark themes.
𝐹𝑜𝑟 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑒𝑤𝑠 𝑐𝘩𝑒𝑐𝑘 𝑚𝑦 𝑐𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑜𝑟 𝑝𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝐹𝑒𝑒𝑛𝑎'𝑠 𝐶𝘩𝑜𝑖𝑐𝑒
About me: I love adventures, especially the old Lucas Arts games. I liked it. Good, difficult puzzles, some frustratingly so, but ultimately all with very sound, everyday logic. Exception are a very few time sensitive puzzles. The story and characters are for the most part very well written. I particularily liked the "two worlds" gameplay, which offsets the rather serious and sombre tone of the main story. Do not expect a lighthearted experience. The retro pixelated look is okay, backgrounds are nicely painted and animations well done. Minor annoyances are the idiosyncracies of the dialogue system, where sometimes you just have to click through all the possible topics until you find the one that actually does advance the story. Also some inconsistencies in characters statements when old topics don't get updated responses after major plot developments. I do however, have two major issues with the writing: For one, the developing friendship between the two main characters felt rather forced to me. The other is
that the surprising last minute story twist wasn't surprising for me. It also feels like it has only been put in for the emotional impact. The result is that it is rather jarring, but not because you are shocked by what has happend, but because it feels completely disconnected from the rest of the main plot.
Conclusion: Do play it, and resist the lure of the walkthrough.

Start to finish a brilliant game; like playing a grea novel. Fantastic, gripping story that leaves you eager to see what will happen next. Absolutely recommend this shocking adventure...

Good old fashioned pixel hunting game with some fiendishly difficult puzzles. Story: The storyline is divided into two: you play as Ord, and as the heroine of the last book written by the writer. The first gets more and more complicated as you search for more book chapters and delve deeper into the writer's life. The part you play in the book has a fairy tale feel to it which offers a nice contrast. There were some surprising twists towards the end but I thought the game concluded with the loose ends tied up neatly. Graphics: reminiscent of earlier LucasArts' titles. Music: subtle and well-matched for the different sections of the game. Voice acting: I thought this was very well done, as all the voices were convincing and no overacting. Ord Salamon sounds just like a mild-mannered cryptologist/PhD student who is described by his friend as "the police use the photo of your face to calm rioters". Gameplay: I spent around 5 or 6 hours so far on this game and only just got to Day 3. But I am getting on in years so perhaps the whippersnappers will get through faster. Overall: highly recommended if you like a good detective thriller with challenging puzzles.

worst adventure game I've played in a long time, really bad, technically the worst one I've ever played (music stops as soon as voice acting starts, controls suck, horrible scrolling, washed out graphics, horrible font, locks up when you alt tab out of the game to read a walkthrough, almost no sound effects), puzzles are just weird, not smart, not crazy, just weird, I dont understand what I'm doing most of the time. The mood of the game is a mix of boredom and depression, I hate it with all my guts. The structure sucks too, for instance you get a new location on your map, want to go there and the game wont allow it because you can still do something in your current location, I could go on and on, I really dislike this game and stopped playing it and I never do this when I've started an adventure game. I really love pnc adventures, but this one I simply cant play and I enjoy the worst ones just because I love the genre.

This is a classic point-and-click adventure game with the standard bizarre inventory and dialogue puzzles. Some puzzles are pretty clever, but most are uninspired or kind of weird. What makes The Samaritan Paradox stand out is its two concurrent storylines: the political thriller in the present (investigating the death, searching for the novel) and the fantasy story segments (the chapters of the novel). However, the ending slaps you in the face with incredibly dark/sensitive subject matter in a really crass and weird way and that soured the whole experience for me. I am angry now even seeing this game in my library.

Pixel Art: 2/5......(Nothing special) Immersion: 2/5....(Not very) Gameplay: 2/5.....(Basic Point & Click) Controls: 3/5.....(Functional) Value: 1/5........(Not enjoyable story or puzzles) Difficulty: 2/5...(Only a few puzzles) -------------- Overall 2.0 (Difficulty always excluded) Sadly, this point & click is plagued with all the classic issues of its genre...Mediocre graphical design, arbitrary puzzles and very bad story. It was not very engaging and its story was all over the place, giving no real satisfaction in the end. On top of this, it is buggy & achievements do not work properly :( There are many great P&C to explore, this is one I wish I had not wasted my time on.
